Paper Mario TTYD (Switch) - Boat Mode (47.19s) [WR]

The first time I got 40.46, I clipped the first half of the run, but then the switch told me I reached the 100 video cap when I tried to clip the second half so that became lost footage .-. Luckily this only took another hour at most, still not a great run with my understanding of the slope part now but only time will tell if I decide to go for better

There is a cut at around the 28s mark, as well as near the end after I cross the finish line, but given the switch's 30s cap on built in recordings, it's the best I could manage. This minigame is the least fun to grind because it's difficult to control the boat with so many rng dependent obstacles in the way lol

I can't even do the boss fight in time trial without dying at least 5 times because the controls are just so lousy, they couldn't make like a joystick or something?
Yeah the ice mechanic isn't perfect, but mobile games like this wouldn't have so much charm without a tiny bit of jankiness in my eyes lol

Why does EVERYONE in speedrunning OBSESS over the first level like it's the holy grail of gameplay?? It's like, "oh, it's the first level, guess I should spend 100 hours shaving off 0.1 seconds!" Newsflash: JUST BECAUSE IT'S THE FIRST LEVEL DOESN'T MEAN IT'S AUTOMATICALLY FUN TO GRIND! People act like optimizing the first level is some kind of rite of passage when in reality it's just repetitive as hell. The rest of the game? Yeah, let's just forget that exists because everyone wants to be a world record holder in Level 1, right? You could be mastering complex skips or perfecting your boss fights, but nope, let’s spend days mastering every pixel of the first 30 seconds of the run. WHAT'S NEXT? SPEEDRUNNING THE TITLE SCREEN?? COME ON, GIVE ME A BREAK. PLAY THE GAME, NOT THE TUTORIAL.

How did you go faster than usual?
I have a 340 now, but tighter lines and conserving more speed throughout the course is the simplest answer lol

The less I turn the cow, the more speed I retain and also the less I run on the grass the more speed I retain, there of course are exceptions when I'm able to cut out enough of the track to justify breaking these rules but that's the general idea
