I just happen to have a DW Design Series kit in Midnight Blue Satin!!!! My dream kit!!!!!! And I got Zildjian A Custom cymbals going around it, along with a 9 inch K Custom Hybrid splash, an 18 inch Rock Platinum crash, and a 16 inch A crash (it seems I have a thing for crash cymbals). I have Remo heads on everything: Controlled Sound for the snare, Pinstripes for the toms, and a Powerstroke 3 for the kick!!!!!! All the resonant heads are the stock Ambassadors, I suspect. And I have Vic Firth 5A Freestyle sticks to play them!!!!!!

Those Mapex sound like toys. Especially the toms.

What I find irritating in many if not most of these drum demos is the constant use of hi-hat and cymbals and snare rather than focusing on the simple process of beating on the toms and bass. It's a drum "kit" demo, not a "cymbals" demo. Common drummer sense is right out the window. Waste of time.

I have this cymbal and it is wonderful for big band or rock in large venues. It's a little dark with good stick definition and crash-ability. However, for small jazz venues it can't even complete with my thin. dark, hand-hammered vintage style cymbals. I have two cymbal bags and two stick bags for two styles of venues.

I always wonder when drum shops present kit comparisons, why do they dwell on hi hat / snare / kick patterns ? Any real comparison should be the sound of the TOMS. Most of us drummers never play the kit snare anyway. And a kick drum is pretty much a kick drum. THUD.

I just bought a Godin Session this week and... It showed me that I didn't fully understand the term "playability" until now. Sure, my Washburn Strat is fairly easy to play but playing on a Godin Session is like unlocking easy mode. Everything just works. Every note rings true, I don't have to press hard on the frets and everything about the guitar just screams "comfort". I had no idea that guitars could be like this and I will NEVER sell my Session. I also have a Solidac and it's amazing too but it's heavy like an LP and the neck is really chunky compared to my Washburn and my Session. It does produce incredible tones though. I'm thinking that, for my budget (<$2000CAD), nothing can touch a Godin guitar.

Sonor AQ2 tom batters have coated heads The Design series has clear batters. That is most of the difference on the Toms right there. I would take the Sonors because of the stable easy to use robust BASS DRUM Tom holder. The design series snare is tuned higher. DW always over priced!

Tama maple shells are the best. I have a Starclassic maple kit that sounds excellent. Byzance cymbals and Tama drums are my favorites

I got this amp in a trade recently, and had never even heard if it before. If you're looking for a tweed style amp for rock, blues, and jazz, it will do it all. The controls are very interactive, and you'd be surprised how many different tones you can get from just these 3 knobs. The lack of buzz comes from the fact Koch isn't a well known brand, nor are they truly "boutique", so they fall in an in-between category of gear that unfortunately causes them to get lost in the mix for most players. It's a shame the amp is killer!

How do these compare to the 143/143A in terms of tone with the different style of bracing? Seems like they go for similar prices on the used market. Thanks!

Sonor.. the sounds are deadening faster giving a clean sound for a better live or recording session when mics are hooked up..
