This time I made a compilation video of a selection of my video footage during flights, also footage which never has been posted before.
I've been spending more than 6 months of creating this video and to be honest, sometimes I was surprised of what footage I had.
562GB of footage I had to look at for something interesting.

First navigation flight of the year!!! This time we are going to an airfield pretty close to my home base, but never been there before to Brasschaat (EBBT) in Antwerp. Le 14 juillet flight to France!!! It was my first flight to France. For this flight I chose Maubeuge-Elesmes (LFQJ) which is just across the border with Belgium. It was a windy flight and to be honest not a good landing. LFQJ is also a special airfield which is FR only for the comms. Very weird if you never used the French terminology. Enjoy!!! 😉

For this video let's do something different. Let's cross some TMA's with the C152 at higher altitudes and go dual pilot with airline pilot @pilotsefrien1493. The weather at Grimbergen and Spa-La Sauvenière was not that good. Sky was clear and sunny but we had to deal with strong winds and turbulent areas during our flight. Hope you enjoy this video!!! 😉

Heb nu pas je YT-kanaal ontdekt, waarop laat jij bij het uitspreken van de id van het vliegtuig OO-AWT de A weg en zeg je enkel Oscar Whisky Tango?
@@gbu85891 is verkorte callsign. Bij OO-AWT mag je dit verkorten naar de eerste letter en de laatste twee letters. Tenzij dat twee callsigns echt op elkaar lijken en op dezelfde frequentie zitten. Dan is het volluit best uitspreken

Any advice to make sure you join the circuit safely? What would you recommend to do when there is as much traffic in the circuit as in your video.
@@nehneh0073 I would now recommend if you come overhead the field, make sure you are 500ft above circuit altitude. Than start timer 1 minute, than make 270° turn and start the descent to circuit altitude in that case at EBBT 1000ft AGL. I would not recommend anymore 200ft above circuit altitude because you'll become in the same situation as I had that time. There were 4 or 5 aircraft in the circuit that moment. Or if you are not comfortable doing that, hold somewhere on a distance from the circuit until traffic becomes quieter.

Dag Jens, sinds kort mijn licentie, leerrijk om je video’s te zien. Waarom activeer je FP via Brussels Info om direct daarna over te schakelen naar Brussels departure? Waarschijnlijk omdat brussels departure geen FP kan activeren?
Hey Bram, de reden daarvoor is als het niet gecoördineerd is (via telefoon) dat het via FIS moet. Maar vaak hebben mijn collega-piloten al gehad indien ze toch bellen dat ze zeggen dat het via FIS toch moet. Dus doe ik het nu op deze manier 😉

Hi Jens, nice video. Got a quick question, what happens when you are taxiing towards the parking spot on that small taxiway and someone is coming from the other direction? Someone moves to the grass for a second or?
Hi, one of them has to hold position and give way. Because it is not allowed on both airfields to taxi onto the grass. Good comms and situational awareness are mandatory 😉

Hi Jens, indeed quite strong crosswind that day, perfectly OK landing considering the conditions. Just as a note: mixing in the Foehn wind here is incorrect (and I know where it comes from, so it is not your fault). You had wind from the North, which is an "uphill" wind in Spa, so it could never be a Foehn. On the day of the accident there was indeed a strong Southern wind, but given the completely dry conditions both on the windward and lee side of the "mountain" calling that Foehn is also not really correct (even if some other people brought that into the discussion elsewhere), as the formation of Foehn wind is associated with a saturated atmosphere on the windward side of the mountain, which was not present that day. The situation is much more simple: Spa is simply much more "dangerous" in crosswinds mainly because it sits in a cutout inside a relatively large forest, so cross-winds create turbulent conditions, and wind from the South is the worst because: 1) the edge of the forest is much closer to the RWY to the South, plus 2) orographic effects also worsen the situation with a (moderately higher) ridge running parallel the RWY to the South which by itself can create light mountain waves on the lee side.
Thanks for the video. Really interesting for beginner pilot like me. I just have a question : why choosing 2500ft as it seems to be the boundary between CTR and TMA. Is there any reason ?
Inside the Liège airspace there isn't a specific reason to choose 2500ft. But outside EBLG, I chose 2500ft because the boundary of EBBR TMA was 2500ft. I could go higher, but than it's better to file a flight plan so ATC can coordinate better while you are flying in busy airspace. For this flight, I chose not to do it and fly uncontrolled instead for the rest of the flight. The return flight, I flew completely controlled at FL60 and filed a flight plan. Safe landings 😉

Nice educational video Jens. Especially for low-time pilots who are not in the habit of calling Brussels Departure. I personally don't tend to charge that ATC service with my VFR traffic, although I do in other TMAs. What strikes me is that you mention a flight plan, but do not ask to activate it?
Ze hebben er niks over gepiept met de vraag of het geactiveerd moest worden of niet dus ik vermoed dat ze het gewoon geactiveerd heeft. In Spa hebben ze ons vliegplan afgesloten en terug geactiveerd voor terugvlucht

Nothing is more annoying when you record the whole flight just for the GoPro to die on final, I know 😅 Just get an external 10000 mAh power bank and power the GoPro from that, then you don’t have to worry about this. Just make sure you get a trustworthy brand, not something sketchy from some Chinese webshop, as a battery fire is not something you want in the aircraft.
GoPro has long range battery. I think I will buy them in the future 😅
@@pilotjens just keep in mind that even the enduro battery is only 1720 mAh, that will also not survive 2 hours of recording at 4K.
@@papics I'm not recording in 4K at the moment 😉 it takes too much storage 😅
@@pilotjens oh yes, I typically get 500 GB easily on a flight with 3 cameras… I store the footage only until editing, after editing all the raw videos are deleted and only the final export is kept, that is typically as many GB as many minutes.

Hello, Interesting flight. Is it mandatory to submit a flight plan when crossing multiple TMA's like you did?
I think so. In the AIP ENR 1.10 stands that any flight or portion thereof to be provided with ATC service shall file a flight plan. As we crossed TMA EBLG and EBBR with multiple ATC frequencies, it is mandatory to file a flight plan I think. For the flight EBGB - EBSP we didn't. Because I flew in uncontrolled airspace until EBLG and crossed their CTR. Only 1 controlled airspace and frequency.

Hi Jens, thanks for this video. While I have flown in the CTAs of Brussels during a night VFR navigation flight before, I have never flown on a flight level before… So today on my second leg I flew from Spa to Ursel starting just like your flight did, and I was also assigned FL60 :) I was even also given a heading for a while. I continued to NIK (LNO-FLO-NIK) before descending, but otherwise it was very similar. Cheers!

Een restaurant is er niet echt. Er is wel een kantine waar je denk ik wel wat snacks kan verkrijgen. Het is wel splinternieuw. Ik heb mijn initiatievlucht in Ursel gedaan toen het nog een oude barak was maar nu is het compleet vernieuwd en heel proper. Niet duur ook
