I live in Minnesota and I just purchased an old Pennsylvania Dutch blanket chest for 40.00. It has six boards and a breadboard top. The hardware is hand wrought iron and it has rose head nails and very nice dovetails. I've been researching and I think it is from around 1790. The people who owned it, had it in the family for over 70 years. It is primitive looking. The guy sanded the surface of it, so it's down to bare wood. I would like to paint it like the Pennsylvania Dutch did, possibly a faded dusty blue with an old timey american flag and eagle. Should I paint or stain it or should I leave it alone? I'm going to glue some nice ball feet on the bottom to get it up off the floor a little. I'm not going to be drilling any holes in it. Thanks, Rhonda

This was awesome I just got a standing cedar chest if I take a pic and post it so you think you could help me find out if it’s worth anything and it looks super old but also looks brand new I couldn’t find any serial number stamped the only thing that I could find on it was a 2 stamped into the back of it also hast stamps inside from the west branch co Milton penna logo. So late 1800s maybe from what I saw thanks

I have two queen anne style arm chairs that I inherited from my mom and she purchased them from an English friend in 1965 or so. I really have not seen the exact style in any pictures . They do look hand carved because the lines and comparisons are not exact. I would love to get more information about them.

I have several pieces of furniture that my parents purchased in an auction with the house they purchased in Pa over 50 years ago. The dining room set does have a paper tag under the table that when we researched the company name found out the company was sold to another company before the civil war. We just got an antique chest from a consignment shop, they said it was Tibetan but not much info on it the wood looks very old and some pieces of what looks like newspaper on the inside of that time era. Screws were in use well before the 19th century....

I have one that definitely looks or pre dates 1920 or early 1900 and has a curved legs with a yellow cushioning and looks like a fancy victorian chair for guests to sit in it has no hand rests and the back of the chair is a yellow cushioning as well.

We put a light weight plastic free standing shelf unit inside the double doors in order not to disturb the case. We use it to store videos and small electronics in the living room. Wouldn't dream of refinishing it.
