It’s also worth mentioning that the reason almost all NYC steam locomotives(including the Hudsons, Niagaras, and A2’s)went extinct was because the company’s president Alfred E Perlman realized that the railroad’s rough financial status due to that stupid ICC overregulation and non rail competition meant that he couldn’t be lenient on preserving steam locomotives if it meant looking after his company. If you wanted to save an NYC steam locomotive, you’d either need to pay the scrap value or watch it get scrapped because they needed all the cash they could get to refloat themselves But Perlman did make a lot of good business decisions for New York Central and was a very forward thinking innovator and his methods did pay off the 60s to the point that he allowed L2C 2933 to be saved. EDIT: my original comment had been outdated since late December 2023 and all those f-ing replies were not needed.

Very impressive and handsome Lima locomotive works built 4-8-4 type locomotive that is the C&O 614, i always enjoy seeing footage of this locomotive in operation. It's a true shame that locomotive 614 is no longer in operation anymore as I would really love to see this engine back in action again in the future.
