Can you name the melodies in this free session I did with my former student Aiden?
Okay everyone, here's my attempt to play more modern, "contemporary" melodies throughout this impromptu session I had with my former student Aiden. I told him that I'm going to weave in and out of melodies that he may not be familiar with, just go with your intuition! I think I had a bum connection in my cable, hence the buzz. On that note does anyone know a way to get rid of that in Logic Pro x? Any help with that would be greatly appreciated!

Last week, after a 10-hour teaching day, a student of mine Aiden, had asked me about playing during one of my office hours. So we got together and played for an hour. Can you name all of the Wayne tunes referenced here?

First one is Like a Flower Seeking the Sun by Myron Walden
Which year Is that?
Not free but probs well under $50 on Black Friday sales gets you Izotope RX elements, a suite of audio repair plugins. Works really well, de-hum would fix the ground loop buzz no problem. I've used the included de-click with great effect to save recordings before too
Hello Thanks for the music. Have you the name of the others heroes of this game please?
pls someone, what is the time signature or time signatures?!?!
👍
Sounds great Jason! Loved the bass solo by Yoni Ben Ari. Is this song inspired by your meeting Dr. West once? You shared the story and I thought it was really funny. "You're Dr. Cornel West!" "I am brother but do you know who you are?" 😅
Hello Jason! I was in a concert in Oktyabrsky in December 2013, still have a photo with you. The track is beautiful. Best regards!
I thought this was at Rutgers lol
You tried well !!! Monk s mood / Round midnight / ... ?? ... / Ask me now / .. ? .... / Pannonica / In walked bud ...
0:38: Hub-Tones 19:20: Red Clay 36:59: Big Foot The personnel might be as below, as they were the touring members in 1985. Freddie Hubbard Tp Kenny Garrett As Mark Templeton Pf Ira Coleman Ba Carl Allen Dr Wynton Marsalis Tp from 2nd tune Wynton quoting "It Ain't My Fault" in 37:54! Great to hear Freddie and Wynton together.
Is the recording a half pitch low? Two blues in A concert?
Much slower than the studio recording
I've been wanting to hear the mythical live recordings of giant steps for years. Thank you so much for posting! I wonder if this is from the Tiberi tapes...
Yup! Was recorded secretly by a student taking a lesson w/ Frank
Wow, I wonder if one day the rest of the tapes will come to light.
@@enkaku2642 most likely they will eventually. Frank is sitting on too much stuff for most, if not all, of it to not come out eventually. There were plans to release this stuff several decades ago that didn’t go through, but with Coltrane’s 100th birthday coming up, I wonder if this stuff will be released for that, as it’s the largest collection of unreleased Coltrane material out there. Some of the bootleg recordings already out there are some of his tapes like the 6/27/60 set at the showboat, but he has an unbelievable amount of tapes that nobody has ever heard before.
Mr Palmer, thank you so much for sharing! Do you have any idea when this performance was, and who was playing?
This was recorded at the Showboat club in Philadelphia either July 19th or 22nd of 1960. The band is Coltrane and McCoy with Steve Davis on bass and Pete LaRoca on drums.
Sorry mate, but that ain’t Trane 😢
That's John Coltrane playing Giant Steps, a song he composed. Anyone who is familiar with his music can clearly identify this as him. If you don't think that's him, I would suggest deeper listening to his style. Good luck.
@@JasonPalmerTrumpetit’s unfortunate that someone pisses on the joy of others, every single time. Thanks for this remarkable treasure, Jason.
Jason. I’m happy to admit I’m wrong about this being Trane. Context is everything I guess. I could hear Trane in the clip you uploaded, but so new and different to the GS album takes. But the more I listened, there were a few red flags for me - the ‘woo-ing’ that can be heard in the track and some of the other sounds were too modern for a 60s recording to my ears. But now that I understand how the recording was obtained (from the other comments) I can gladly hear that I was turned around by own ears and had made a mistake. Thank you for the graciousness of your response. Spike
killing truly
Wow! Amazing find! Such different material than what he played on the studio! A real improviser.
OMG!
All hail our great one! Burn eternal so BRIGHT!! Goosebumps.
Is this Greg Duncan on guitar? He was a really burning player, there isn't that much of him out there, it's too bad, the guy played his butt off.
Yes, that's my dear pal Greg. He's truly one of the young greats on the guitar!!
We probably did 1k gigs together and I recorded every one of them!
Amazing! Thank you for posting, Jason!
Omg the song at 14:07 is so gorgeous Whas it recorded somewhere esle ?
Wynton is not playing in this recording
Wynton sounds great here!!
@@JasonPalmerTrumpet even heard Mr. Hubbard say go head Wynton! And then he put his stank on it afterwards, love it! And I know Mr. Marsalis he been playing all day already most likely so yes! ....Great recording Thanks
Yes, he is. Starts at 37:05...
@@sbsbjazz He starts at 19:20 on Red Clay.
what is the first one called?
It's called The Outpost Blues
First one is Hub-Tones, the arrangement is from the Double Take album with Freddie and Woody Shaw. 2nd is Red Clay. 3rd one 12 bar blues I don't know the title.
Hub tones
Wow Freddie and Wintln ❤ congrats JP
Thanks for posting, Jason. Maestro Freddie holding court. This is new to me. Any idea who the other musicians were, besides Wynton?
Pretty sure that is Kenny Garrett on alto.
I got : Along came betty, Caravan, One by one, Sweet n sour, Up jumped spring, United, Hammer head, Dat dere, Prince Albert, Ping pong, Invitation , Skylark, Ugetsu, Conception, The Theme, Blues march, A la mode and Pensativa And the common point is that these tunes are all on Art Blakey's albums :)
And Thermo at the end !
@iliesdamnati4057 Great ears!! There's about 12 more in there!!
Are you Real in the middle of Along came betty
What is this thing called love around 29 min.
One of the baddest mamma jamma
wow, i was there this evening, you all played awesome, happy to be able to hear it again! thanks for sharing!!
My working theory is "tunes Joe Henderson played on." Punjab, Shade of Jade, The Sidewinder, Serenity, Blue Bossa... Don't know where he played on Jeannine... eventually I had to stop because I was getting frustrated about the tunes I wasn't catching. Some Horace Silver, maybe some Freddie Hubbard and even something off Lush Life? I surrender. You have a huge vocabulary.
The Core at the end...maybe the connecting thread is just Blue Note?
@@inklesswells Wonderful ears! Yes, Blue Note was the theme of the session with my student Aiden that night! Send me a mailing address for you at jasonpalmertrumpet@gmail.com and I'll send you a prize in the post (assuming it's domestic!).
Footprints? Witch hunt? What's up with the Herbie Hancock photo? Good playing though.
Oops, thanks for catching the typo. I changed it to Herbie. They're all Herbie Hancock songs so no Footprints or Witch Hunt here.
@@JasonPalmerTrumpet So I did hear some " Empryean Isles" right?🤔
You got it. Oh yes, and upon listening back this evening I realize that I did quote Witch Hunt in the start, so you do indeed win the door prize!! @@Duane-tl2zc
Wow!!!! You sound incredible.
Thank you so much for listening Jason! I appreciate your kind words! Stay blessed!!
This is amazing! I’m not even 15 minutes in and so far I could name: Speak No Evil, Oriental Folk Song,Night Dreamer, Witch Hunt, Prince of Darkness, Marie Antoinette and Ping Pong. (I’m sure I missed some) Can’t wait to hear the rest! Thanks for posting!
Yes, you've got those correct indeed!! Thanks for listening!!
