How to Weave a Willow Basket - Part 2. The Sides, Border and Handle
The following is the second of a two-part video series on traditional french basketry with Lionel Demandre (my dad). Lionel has been weaving baskets for over 40 years and aims to share this beautiful trade with as many people as possible. We hope that the video being English, and of higher quality will make it accessible to as many people as possible. Sorry about the audio problems, we tried our best!

    Can one use the end of the uprights as weavers when the walls of the basket are well established? It seems a shame to throw them away if the can be of use

    • @obleodemandre4342

      Once you finish the border, you can take the offcuts and save them for another basket, or flip the basket over and weave another border to make a stand for the basket (for slightly different style)

    Extremely useful tutorial, and what strong, even, long, flexible material. I've not seen a handle like this before. Wish I lived near some willow. I've tried apple branches after pruning the tree, made a couple small things, but your work with the willow is truly beautiful. And I loved the rectangular basket you showed briefly near the beginning. Nice work - talent!

    Hi. Very nice job you are doing. Just to make sure, you say "In front of two, behind one", but what I see is "In front of two, behind 'the second one'" and not " In front of two, behind the third one", hey? Since the beggining I thought you were weaving on three rod but no, it seems, " in front one, behing one (or the next)"... would like to know if I'm wrong. I'm not going to start weaving soon, so you have plenty of time to answer me, but would appreciate to know if I understood well. Thanks a lot. Very nice art.

    For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:16 KJV Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. John 14:6 KJV That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. Romans 10:9 KJV He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him. John 3:36 KJV For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Romans 6:23 KJV Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me. Revelation 3:20 KJV And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent. John 17:3 KJV Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: John 11:25 KJV Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. Acts 2:38 KJV For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. 2 Corinthians 5:21 KJV Know therefore this day, and consider it in thine heart, that the Lord he is God in heaven above, and upon the earth beneath: there is none else. Deuteronomy 4:39 KJV And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved. Acts 2:21 KJV Time is short. “Seek ye the Lord while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near:” Isaiah 55:6 KJV Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the Lord, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon. Isaiah 55:7 KJV Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come. Matthew 24:42 KJV I am the Lord, and there is none else, there is no God beside me: I girded thee, though thou hast not known me: Isaiah 45:5 KJV And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house. Acts 16:31 KJV He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. John 3:18 KJV Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord. Acts 3:19 KJV Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else. Isaiah 45:22 KJV Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. Galatians 6:7 KJV And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord. Joshua 24:15 KJV But if from thence thou shalt seek the Lord thy God, thou shalt find him, if thou seek him with all thy heart and with all thy soul. Deuteronomy 4:29 KJV Wherefore thou art great, O Lord God: for there is none like thee, neither is there any God beside thee, according to all that we have heard with our ears. 2 Samuel 7:22 KJV For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. Ephesians 2:8-9u? 1 Corinthians 3:16 KJV Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body. 1 Corinthians 6:18 KJV She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more. John 8:11 KJV And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. Matthew 3:2 KJV Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge. Hebrews 13:4 KJV What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee. Psalm 56:3 KJV Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me. Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit. Psalm 51:10-12 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you. 1 Peter 5:7 KJV But if from thence thou shalt seek the Lord thy God, thou shalt find him, if thou seek him with all thy heart and with all thy soul. Deuteronomy 4:29 KJV For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. Ephesians 2:8-9 KJV

      Why are old people so often needlessly rude to strangers? Is it all the lead you inhaled growing up? A man goes through the effort to share years of knowledge with you completely for free and all you can say is you don’t like the audio? 🙄
