First time we saw the BLU winning way... could have run on by and won by a length instead preferred to brush up against the runner up and just win by a short head what a bully
Bookies lost an absolute packet on this race
Australia finally saw how good this horse was a Champion 3 Railways
What a golden era of very very good horses that was. I miss those times
First winning bet I ever had. Hooked me in after that.
Great seeing these races from a bit of a golden era of Australian racehorse quality. B.L.U was well nigh unstoppable in this period of his career, and his 1990 was amazing, so sad he suffered the tendon injury after that. Can't help think though that my favourite horse of the era Vo Rogue was right up there, didn't really participate in the Cox Plate in his pomp, but had narrow placings to Empire Rose and Horlicks in consecutive MacKinnons '88-89 and gave B.L.U a rare defeat in this era with his 1990 Australia Cup win.
People with a semblance of a brain need to look at a replay of the entire race, The 1st 2 in finishing order were stablemates. The 3rd horse was grilled to try and make some sort of a race early doors. WTF
Of course i backed Juggler each way and he was deemed to come 4th, beaten probably no more than a long head.
Go Super !!!!
What a horse.
Stellar field, I think they all won Group 1 races, perhaps except Palace Reign who ironically finished last. Those were the days.
So sad he broke down he would have giving VJK his inter win
Shocking call , call vo gone for second …
Indeed, B.L.U might have blown him away but Vo would fight to the death to keep in the placings. Held off Prince Salieri and the others including Sydeston. Four Australia Cup campaigns, two wins, two seconds, and I think an A.R.Creswick stakes win in 1987 too on the same program and distance as the Australian Cup (won by Bonecrusher) that year.
Top class field
What a great era of racing
On top of the world after this race... never won again
What a good sport Kerryn is - bad luck Knight Pistol ran second , but there were many magnificent wins in his career and he was a credit to both Peter and Kerryn ( father and daughter )
He beat a few champions in that one.
Black Caviar never met a horse like Placid Ark this was one great sprinter
A great race horse one of my favorite s with Grey way Tough
Horse racing was lot more competitive back than jockeys ar lot better , Winx and black caviar will never have a winning streak !
So u think Sub Zero was a better horse than Veandercross rubbish bro how many Group 1s did he win how many races on rain affected tracks? Veandercross was 2nd in both the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups how about the old Grey how did he go in those races? How many WFA did he win a career ain’t built on 1 win in the Cup if dry world never of beaten the 2 Kiwis Castletown bro!
Woosh..... easy.
How many times did Veandercross get rolled by going so wide. Great horse anyways
Krona running the race of his life.
One of the best fields you would see
That is probably his toughest win he worked the whole way through the race and destroyed them ,he had no right to run away from them after doing all the work and being a sitting duck .
Like the way that horse finishing 7th worked home. Could be one to follow next up over a bit further.
1987-2006 were the greatest two decades of Australian racing
Lonhro's Australian Cup win was against moderate opposition? Really? I thought that Makybe Diva was a decent horse considering she'd won tha Mlb Cup the year before and Elvtroem was VRC Derby winner 03 and Caulfield Cup winner 04,so they're some average horse's hey?🤦♂️
Knights horses always seem to find that little bit more.Even after a mug drive, 3 wide to death.Dr Bells Elephant juice (U can stay three wide forever)
Say something nice about this horse......just for once bruce
That win against one of best 3yo`s ever might be his best. Stylish Century could have been anything if it wasn`t for greedy owners. Good on you Bill Mitchell.
I remember a poll in Best Bets years ago, top 10 best ever Australasian racehorses. BLU didn`t make any editors list but was No.1 on the readers. At his best I think this horse beats any I`ve seen.
I'd have him between Kingston Town and Winx....virtually unbeatable at his best...The bowed tendon ruined his career..Probably would have dominated swfa in syd and melb for another 2yrs...surely another two ws cox plates..
What a great drive on Holmes DG! Deserved a win that drive but horse beaten on its merits.
just look at the time they clocked: 2:02.8
One of the greatest wins I’ve witnessed. What a horse!
Man that brings back memories.. just in an amazing horse
You don’t get fields like that today, nowhere near it.
Dye a true marvel , pig skin king
Enjoy that one Bruce? Not bad for an A minus rated horse.....flog
Was on track for 10 of his wins. Big call but at 2K he was unbeatable. Great call by John Russell RIP.
Was it Shane Dye this & Caulfield Cup ride not Shane’s best what NZ would give 2 had a Veandercross now 2nd in Melbourne Cup too wet track cost him would of smashed Sub Zero but not in those Track Conditions
Rubbish..Veandercross won mackinnon on the bog track and was beaten fairly and squarely by a superior stayer in the cup and a perfect Greg Hall ride .
Going by the clear sound of a fist hitting the table Bill Collins clearly backed Rubiton. One of his best ever calls what a legend.
Veryintresting
I had a grand on Surfers Paradise this day
Another slaughterhouse ride by jockey whose name such live in infamy, just kidding smallie
Back when Victorian racing was great, now it’s not worth two bob!
The good old days ❤
That horse had no right to win that race, his workload to get to the front was extreme where many would have caved in at the 400, he was a true champion!
