11/02/1978. A trademark Neil Griffiths penalty but another defeat in the relegation season.

A screamer from Louis Dodds and a good old fashioned challenge on the keeper from Rico give Vale an unlikely win under new manager Dean Glover.

Super mark goodlad
Pissed down that day
Nice goal from Dodds.
0:05 Simple good luck? As your man says at 0:57, it was a contender for goal of the season! 0:30 What smothering tactics? 0:42 All he can say about another great goal is "a boot connected". Does anyone know the name of this reporter? 0:51 BTW - What a strange choice of music!
This was Bob Hall on local news the day after.
Brilliant!
Tony Naylor,,,,,, legend
Ok, so PV won this match. But whose fans will be happier right now?
agree
Super Scotty Partridge.
Carragher died of cancer on 29 December 2016 at the age of 40. Former teammate Tony Naylor paid tribute to him as a "a cheeky chappie, a typical Scouse lad, confident and a nice guy with it".
look where brentford are now
I was there. Took Argyle off the bottom of the table. You Vale fans had some savages back then. At this game, just beginning to go home. Vale fan in the Plymouth end says to a guy, "Come on boyo! Come on boyo!" and whacks him. Next season I was 17 at your ground with my older mates. Couple of guys stole my Argyle scarf, my older mates retrieved it for me. Just before we get in the van about 7 are trying to beat up my mate who got my scarf back. I saw other games later and seems like the Vale crowd had calmed down a lot.
Hi. Have you got the Doncaster games from 2005/06? Working through a DRFC Archive and struggling for material from that season - and one of the games features a goal which one of the ex-players is asking about. Thanks!
I don't have that season unfortunately. Are you looking for the away game at Belle Vue or the FA cup tie? The home game finished 2-0 to us.
@@pvfcsanta League games H/A, ideally. 0-2 at VP, 1-1 at BV. If there's anything you need off my archive, here's the link: awayonsaturday.blogspot.com/2020/04/doncaster-rovers-video-archive-2013.html
Tony was prem material,
I think the EFL Trophy is great, in terms of League One and League Two sides? THE EFL TROPHY IS GREAT. Here is my idea for the trophy. I think Scottish Premier sides who have not qualified for Europe, and selected Welsh Premier sides should be invited into the EFL Trophy, for cross border games. The Scottish allow English, Welsh, and Irish sides in the Scottish Challenge Cup. I do not support a league merger but do cross border cups, between clubs club sides over Great Britain and possibly Ireland. It would be awesome to have cross border games without giving up our own leagues. I do not want to merge the leagues. I do though want cross border cups. Imagine games like Aberdeen v Sunderland, Connahs Quay Nomads v Tranmere, or Hibernian v Blackpool. Scottish sides could be in the Northern section of the EFL Trophy, and Welsh sides in the Southern section of the EFL Trophy. I would really really help Welsh soccer and would add cross border banter for Scotland and England sides.
The winner of this trophy should play the winner of the Irn Bru trophy
I am a massive fan of the Football League Trophy. But here is an idea to improve the trophy. Invite Scottish and Welsh league sides into the trophy. We could invite all Scottish Premier sides who have not qualified for Europe, plus a selection of the leading Welsh Premier sides into the trophy. To allow the Scots and Welsh in, would allow English sides who never play in Europe, a chance to travel to other countries. The Scots have already had Welsh, Irish, Ulster and English sides playing in the Scottish Challenge Cup. So Uefa allow this. I do not support merging the leagues. I want a cross border cup on top of European and domestic soccer. Imagine Games like Dundee United v Port Vale. Or Aberdeen V Sunderland.

Richards committed GBH on the goalkeeper and got away with it with a goal, the port fail scumbags then danced around a goalkeeper with a shattered cheekbone....what a lovely bunch they had back then!!

Had he? Oh well. I've got quite a bit of Chester footage on video from that season, most of it grim though.
Thanks for this, although being pedantic Harry McNally had left Chester a few months earlier.
