    Wow! That organ has a huge sound; in fact, maybe a little too big for the choir it was a companying.

    Is there a way to get a chance to play this organ for like 20 minutes?

      Easily. Just get in contact with the music director 👍🏼

    Looks like a flat pedal board, not AGO. Wonder why they went with that design. Seems like it would be more difficult to play.

    My friend helped build that organ. It's a spectacular instrument.

    I find it Very necessary to play the last hymne with very much organ, because of the postludium she plays is a very "big" or dramatic postludium; and nice to hear it played as a Postludium. Bachs famous and wonderful Dminor.

      musikalitet can you not hear that the excellent world class Fritts organ's wind can not even keep up? This is not due to any fault of the organ but of terrible registration by the organist choice. This is playing with out listening.

    Non-AGO pedal board? Looks flat.

      PointyTailofSatan The one in their recital hall has a German Pedalboard (flat, parallel). This might be radiating, but not concave (this might also be due to the angle of the camera).

    Way too much organ on the last hymn. Not necessary with this organ in this room.

      Hugh Drogemuller I agree! And then there is the Bach...but let's not go there. It's not like she's got an instrument that could do a fine historical recreation.

      For contemporary Bach performance the best sounds are coming from the Woehl organ at St. Thomas Liepzig.

      ???????????? The Fritts organ is there as a liturgical instrument first and foremost, not to play Bach like Bach knew it. Even Bach didn't play all Bach. You know NOTHING about what a liturgical instrument's role should be, do you? And who gives rip about historical performance except you and maybe 3 other people?

      Ryan Hawn that is way too much organ. The Holtkamp, yes you had to pull out everything if you had a full church and the organ barely fill. The Fritts is super powerful and from someone who loves thunderous organs (and has recorded hundreds around the world) and knows them, that is WAY to much and there is no variety of registration, which can be used to paint the words. Please that organ is magnificent don't play it like the Holtkamp. I mean this as constructive criticism and not a put down. I there a few weeks before this video was made. I attempting to sing Notre Dame Our Mother with a packed church and I could not hear myself singing at the top of my lungs. The church was packed with fellows Domers and I could not hear the people around me singing because the organ was overwhelming. Then 3 verses of Alleluia Sing to Jesus, all on the tutti. You have combination action and a Swell Box use them! Yes the organ goes straight over your head at the console, so go down stairs and have someone else play on your registration, you will hear how overwhelming that organ is, especially with no variation in dynamics. Please folks at BSH, you have one of the finest new pipe organ built in the USA in decades, learn to play hymns on it. You want to hear masterful hymn playing, listen to Craig Cramer playing Advent Lesson and Carols, that is hymn playing the way it should always be. Copy him. Joe Vitacco ND 1990

      But not with the registration used in this instance and three manuals coupled. Go to the three Bona Patzlowky tracks for ideas how it would have sounded much better.

      It feels slow to me, but I have no idea as to how much the acoustic environment is affecting the tempo here. As for registration, my personal opinion is too not judge organists' registration on an instrument until they have had six months to a year to really explore the instrument. All manuals coupled was likely necessary on the previous instrument so they were playing it safe and doing the same with this instrument (at least at first). I believe we are also hearing it at the console and not from the congregation. If that is the case, then it could be an effective registration for all we know.

    was the Folk Choir off that day? (I thought they had someone filling in for Karen in her Organ role since she's in Steve's old role as main Director?

    • @brettperkins8748
      @brettperkins8748 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, they sang the Mass (still from downstairs, near the temporary organ, as permanent risers are currently being built up in the loft) and then Karen rushed up to the loft to play the new Great Organ for the closing hymn and postlude. Yes, there has been another accompanist filling in. Karen was so excited to play this postlude for the congregation...and on the new Fritts organ!

    • @disneydanny2
      @disneydanny2 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      NICE! I'm guessing once the risers are in place upstairs the temp organ gets returned?

    • @brettperkins8748

      That temporary organ would have been returned, but as it turns out, Moreau Seminary has purchased it for their chapel...so it's sticking around!
