Upcycling an Old Treadmill into a Standing Desk Walking Pad
I recently purchased a cheap treadmill from Facebook marketplace with the intention of turning it into a standing desk walking pad. The process wasn't too tricky with the right tools.

    I have a 2007 Odyssey that I just have the back seats folded down. I knew there had to be a way to get them out so I could have some more storage. I don't have the tools, nor the skill set, especially being disabled, to be able to do this work I'm forced to be living in my Odyssey van that I just was able to purchase at a cheap price, and needs a ton of work.

    Very nicely done, having built over 2000 I have to give you dibs on using the NS head stock, Melobar started that in the 90's and paid Ned Steinberger for the rights but I guess anyone can use it now, I don't think SX paid him anything, kind of the pits the designers like that get ripped off in the end. Take a look at a Melobar Supersteel from 1995...looks very much like that.

    I built one a couple of years ago now out of old left-over wood from a few skids. I have it tuned to open "E" tuning which sounds just great. I have a factory built one as well from the 1960's and it's in new like condition setup on C6 tuning. It's easy to switch to whichever tuning I want to play in. Both tune-up all along the neck perfectly and intonation is also perfect on every string from one end to the other. Either one are quite enjoyable to play. I do like your finished project. Well done and enjoy playing it.

      Mine(07 exl) bolts on to the side of the driver's side rear wall... Perfect location cuz it doesn't block line of vision whilst driving. @@nolangordin too bad that the transmission gave out; good luck for the bigger and better things you mentioned elsewhere in the comments! I'm north of the border and way off to the East so I'm not interested in either, but may I please know the approximate cost of materials on your build?

    How do you get your window covers to stay in place?

    • @nolangordin
      @nolangordin 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I cut them just to the right size of the window so that they just slide into the trim of the windows and they hold themselves up. The back window ended up falling a bit, so I ended up adding some suction cups to that one. Here are the ones I used: amzn.to/3ZWzxak

    Beautiful job! Nice sound! I build my lapsteels out of common pine 2x4's or 2x6's from HD and they have a gorgeous tone. I may have missed it but I didn't see how you grounded your strings. I always use a hardtail bridge on mine and I run 22ga. solid CU directly to to the nearest bridge mounting screw. Whatever works. Again, nice build!

      Thank you so much for the comment! I'll have to check out some of your builds! I didn't end up grounding the strings, but I did wrap the inside of the pickup cavity with aluminum tape. So far I haven't had any trouble. What problems could come up with an ungrounded bridge?

    • @mulekickhandmadeguitars8465
      @mulekickhandmadeguitars8465 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@nolangordinSince the magnetic pickup induces an electrical field on the strings, quite often you can get an annoying hum that will only go away when you touch the strings (which creates a path to ground that cancels out the hum) and comes back when you're not touching the strings. Lining the pickup cavity with copper tape functions to block out outside interference. If you're not getting any of those symtoms you're all good.

      @@mulekickhandmadeguitars8465 Ahh ok yes I wasn't sure if there was a more serious issue with leaving the bridge ungrounded. Thanks for clarifying!
