Mess Kit Canteen- Scrambled eggs and roast beef with hash browns cooked in an Artic Canteen Cup.
I cooked a Breakfast meal in my Artic canteen cup on my Firebox Stove ( First Use of my Firebox ) the Heat source was my Pathfinder Alcohol stove.
This was a really good breakfast which is my first breakfast in a canteen cup, lots to learn but I will cook more Breakfast foods in more canteen cups.

U S navy MK1 Knife review

I'm reviewing the Ka Bar Mark 1 U.S. Navy Knife, It's 1095 steel and it was used during WW2 as a combat Knife. I'm Super Impressed with this knife, I did not get this knife as a Bush craft Knife but I could use it as one if I had to. I will be doing more test of this Knife in the near Future. Some of the paint chipped off the blade but that's normal.

      I hate that about this knife, because I had fond memories of my childhood with one. I have had one on and off since I was a Kid, to me it was a combat knife that could do everything a kid thinks it can do, When I started doing woodsy stuff I learned the value of the right Blade and this isn't it for the woods.

    I don’t have the mk 2 crusader, it’s usually a bit quicker than the mk 1. I don’t know anyone who was issued it however. Esbit and Heximine lights a lot easier (ie. from a ferro rod) if you make shaving first. Thanks for the video, my son loves mac’n’cheese.

    Great job! Horseweed has always been one of my favorites for hand drill. One suggestion, scrape off the outer bark from the business end of your spindle about an inch. That seems to help me get an ember faster.

    I finally got one on Ebay because all the stores around here are completely sold out, and after asking Walmart's customer service they couldn't tell me when or if they would be getting any more. I would like to get two more, one for my workplace, and one for my tackle box. All the hype regarding this knife has caused them to become unobtainium.

    I tried mine on a ferro rod and couldn't get a spark. Not sure if it might have been the coating on the blade, or just not quite the right geometry on the spine of the knife. I tend to think it was the geometry, as I've got a RAT2 with a coated blade and it still makes sparks without any problem. I wasn't going to try using the OT blade on the ferro rod, as hard a time as I had finding one!

    • @georgiawoodsmanforum6865
      @georgiawoodsmanforum6865 15 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I tried the Spine to but it just wouldn't spark for me either, I tried the Navy Kabar Knife and it's powdered coated and it made sparks, Just depends on how sharp the spine is with a powder coated Knife.

      It's a good little Knife for $10, I'm rough on knives and use them for Bushcraft and this did everything I needed it to. I would not carry it as my main Knife though, worth the $10 to use as a starter knife or back up knife.

    I own a few reproductions of the M3 knife and the same Ontario Knife reproduction. The M3 knife was designed to be a knife for those how did not carry a weapon that had a bayonet. The M1 carbine did not originally come with a bayonet and the M3 submachine gun also did not. It was more meant to be more of a weapon than a utility knife. If you look at WWI trench Kives you see they are pointy and don't have wide blades for penetration. When they decided to make a bayonet for the M1 carbine they derived it from the M3 knife and in fact the first ones were made from modified M3 knives. After that all of the US's bayonets up to the M7 had similar blades. However, the internals on the handle ends differ. While you can bushcraft with nearly any knife that has decent edge retention. The wedge-shaped grind bevel of the edge does not favor a keen edge nor easy slicing. However, it does bush craft jobs but with a little more work. In my case I always have a Swiss Army Knife that has a saw blade in one pocket for quick cutting shores, and I would be bringing the M3 knife along in case I was assaulted by man or beast. The stack leather handle and not wide blade mean it is light weight. The leather grip won't break, is non-slip and unless it got soaked in water during cold weather is not going to make your hand as cold as some synthetic handle material. In the desert the leather handle is not going to get too hot to touch and hang on to.

      This was one of Bushcraft USA's Advanced requirements for Bushclass Live Out of Your PSK for 24 Hours. I would have had my 10 C's at least on me for this in a real situation or use a real poncho or Tarp for an overnighter and would have had more tools with me as well. This was an eye opener of how much we need and depend on the stuff we take to the wodds.
