    I'm proud to say that I never got on the tubeless train. It was recommended as the greatest thing ever, but after working things through in my head, it just didn't make sense to me. The increased hassle, maintenance, weight, cost were a no go for me. I switched to latex and was happy with that. And then TPU came out, so tubeless makes even less sense now.

    I’ve been running tubeless for about 2 years on all three of my bikes, I’ve had some difficulty mounting tyres, had tyres leak air from the sidewalls (Michelin & Vitttoria) but have settled on Vittoria Corsa Next and finding it’s getting easier each time I replace tyres. I never unmount a tyre to check sealant, using Stans and it’s never dried out on me and always plenty left in the tyre when it’s worn out. I reckon all the issues with tubeless are worth it purely for the ride quality and ability to run lower pressures while still getting decent rolling resistance, I’m at 50psi on a 30mm tyre and the ride is sublime, if you have decent roads in your area then maybe tpu tubes but having used tpu and latex I can say that tubeless is much better in terms of ride quality.

    Thanks for the video, I run tubeless on 4 of my bikes, I think you covered much of the teething issues, perhaps I missed it I don't think you mentioned to seat the tyre by over inflating to get the POP. I'm now using the Muc Off Road and Gravel sealant on the road and commute bike. I went tubeless after my road bike had a puncture and it was a nightmare to get the tyre off and on (17mm internal rim and 25c tyres) no way that was happening at the roadside. Thankfully TL works for me and I can continue to enjoy riding far and often.

    Tubeless can be helpful in races (and fast group rides) with regard to avoiding flats assuming that sealant can plug the hole. For self supported gravel and XC races that are known to be have rocky sections, adding a tire insert can also help to avoid pinch flats that hole the sidewall. That said, the last resort of having to insert a tube into a tubeless tire with sealant during race can be very costly in terms of finishing position. and messy. WRT to efficiency, my take is that in lower categories (e.g. Cat 5, 4) there are other factors that have a greater impact on outcome than rolling resistance, e.g. drafting, optimized pack positioning, nutrition, hydration, etc. My $0.02.

    @edt6488 23 วันที่ผ่านมา

    I think it's a negative when you have to put in more sealant than a weight of a butyl or TPU inner tube. I too have experienced getting a cut in the tire that was too large for the sealant to seal (I did plug the hole but it blew out the worm!). I also had tyres that needed a lot of sealant to stop leaking. And how about a tyre that is so tightly seated on the rim that you can't take it off to put an inner tube in?

  • @M3GRSD
    @M3GRSD 23 วันที่ผ่านมา

    I was a skeptic too, but my butyl and TPU inter tubes kept leaving me stranded, so I switched to tubeless a year ago. I've only experienced a loss of sudden pressure loss once. It was a minor puncture, and the sealant did its job. I'm a tubeless convert now, but I'm still sticking with hooked wheels. I have a set of Campagnolo Bora Ultra WTO, and the wheel bed doesn't require tape for a tubeless setup. They're stupid fast too, just an FYI.

    Does it (the Ryet) require padded biking shorts? Or is this comfortable without padded cycling shorts? Maybe you're going to say something like "that depends on how tough you are." Well, I have to wear well padded cycling shorts for the seat that came with my 2015 Masi Gran Corsa, so maybe that gives you an idea. I really dislike wearing padded cycling shorts as they are very uncomfortable for my naughty bits. They're way too stuffy and I can never get the bits adjusted into comfort 😪. I suffer 😔

    I've been running tubeless on every bike for five years. I run 28mm GP5KSTRs on several road bikes, all on hooked rims with solid rim beds (no tape required). I run about 72psi on the road. I absolutely love the feel of this on the road, there's so much comfort and grip. I use hookless taped rims on my gravel bikes and MTBs. I've done probably thirty tubeless setups myself. I have an inexpensive compressor and inflator as I have so many bikes. I've never flatted a tubeless tire of any type in a way that required me to put in a tube. I just use regular Stan's and I have seen the sealant stop a leak several times as I kept riding. I have had to plug multiple tires, I use Dynaplugs which work very well. Just my experience.

    I’ve ridden tubeless for five years on the road with 27 mm challenge Strada tires I’ve never had a flat that didn’t seal itself. I weigh 190 pounds I run them at 5.5 bar, I’ve ridden down the coast of Oregon…three times across Iowa during Ragbrai And the gravel trail from Pittsburgh to Washington DC. They were very fast and comfortable and I wouldn’t change that set up but I wouldn’t particularly encourage. Just anybody to try it. I almost think a prerequisite for using the system in a road setting properly would be to have spent time with tubulars. Similarly involving and rewarding. The only thing I would consider doing if I had any consistent headaches to deal with would be to add latex inner tubes and actually put maybe 100 ML of sealant inside the tube just out of curiosity in the end though there’s nothing realistic to compare to a 300 TPI tubeless tires.

    I’m on tubeless since 2018. So far not much of an issue. There are a few ride that it don’t seal. Which I notice new modern sealant don’t seal as good as old days latex sealant which I can’t find nowadays those latex sealant even seal on a side wall small cut. I’ve still had 1/2 bottle of mucoff sealant which don’t really works as advertised. I still prefer Stan’s no tube race sealant.

    I run 30mm Conti GP5000 S TR tires on some Reserve 40/44 tubeless rims. I've had zero issues and no leaks. For reference, I weigh about 175 lbs and run my tires between 51-ish psi (when in wet conditions) and 56 psi (worn, cracked roads). I've had 2 punctures over 4000 miles, and both sealed pretty much immediately (no sealant sprayed onto my bike frame). I use Orange Sealant. From what I've read and heard from other cyclists, MucOff's sealant is not good at all. I use Fillmore valves, and they have never clogged. IMHO, there's not a lot of effort needed to maintain my tubeless setup. I set an alarm in my calendar to remind me to check or add sealant every 3 months, a bit sooner if it's been especially hot outside. I'll never go back to clinchers. With my setup, I get a more comfortable ride and no real worries about flats. FWIW, it's worth looking at Silca's tire pressure calculator. Josh Poertner and Tom Anhalt have done a lot of work and research into optimal tire pressures, and they've found that the tire pressures that yield faster rolling tires are typically lower than people think. silca.cc/blogs/silca/part-4b-rolling-resistance-and-impedance

    Sorry you’re having so many issues. It’s crazy how different people have different experiences. Not just with cycling but everything else in life. I’ve been tubeless over 2 years now. I love it. For me it’s been everything I hoped for. No more flats, that’s the biggest thing for me. Other than a catastrophic sidewall tear from hitting a rock, I’ve had literally zero issues in over 10k miles. Not a single flat. Yes I have stopped several times to put a Dyna plug in but that took less than 2 or 3 minutes and I was on my way. I keep my bikes indoors and check and top off the sealant every month. Tubeless has been an absolute game changer for me.

    • @sparkymac3320
      @sparkymac3320 15 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@pierrex3226 no flat, the sealant plugs the leak almost immediately. Most punctures we’re unaware of because virtually zero sealant escapes. With a puncture big enough to spit sealant we always pull over and jam a Dynaplug in and do a quick pinch feel to decide if we should put a little co2 in or not. The only time we’ve had a flat was sidewall tear. We literally don’t even cary a spare tube. I did 7000 miles last year and not one single flat. My wife did 17,000 miles with zero flats and one sidewall tear that wasn’t repairable. I had to go pick her up. And no that’s not a typo, she rides that much. Tubless for us has been a complete game changer. In our group rides we often all stop and help when someone flats. It’s always someone who’s yet to go tubeless. Not kidding.

    I tried tubeless for about a year, but it just isn't worth all the pfaff, especially the disgusting, sticky sealant. Clincher tires with TPU tubes perform about as well as tubeless, are easier to get on and off the wheels, are actually a bit lighter, and much less messy. And you can run higher pressures if you wish without worrying about the tire blowing off the rim at 75psi.
