The University of Pennsylvania's Leonard Davis Institute of Health Economics (LDI) is one of the country's largest hubs of academic researchers focused on the medical, economic, and social issues that influence how health care is organized, financed, managed, and delivered across the U.S.
Impact of Consolidation on Health Care
Four top experts in the field of hospital management and anti-trust issues gathered in a virtual seminar at the University of Pennsylvania's Leonard Davis Institute of Health Economics (LDI) to discuss the benefits and disadvantages of hospital mergers and consolidations. Included were a current and former official from the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) that has recently ramped up its efforts to slow the pace of anti-competitive health care consolidation that, over the last 30 years, has consistently raised health care delivery prices and costs. Corporatization of Independent Hospitals
มุมมอง 107หลายเดือนก่อน
A study team led by University of Pennsylvania researcher Atul Gupta, PhD, has found that there are significant differences in what happens after a multi-hospital system acquires an independent hospital versus when it acquires a hospital from another multi-hospital system. For instance, while prices go up in both cases, operation costs go down only in one and readmissions go up in only one. The...
High Cost of Gene Therapies
มุมมอง 92หลายเดือนก่อน
A panel convened by the University of Pennsylvania discusses the new cell and gene therapies that can now cost millions of dollars for a single treatment and, despite their often miraculous curative powers, are accessible to so few patients. A number of barriers prevent the lowering of prices as both commercial and government insurers and self-insured employers struggle to come up with sustaina...
Fetal Anomaly Care
มุมมอง 114หลายเดือนก่อน
In this six-minute video, researcher and LDI Senior Fellow Abigail Wilpers, PhD, of the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing discusses her latest study that developed an instrument to measure the level of person-centered care provided in fetal care centers. Over the last forty years, 37 of these centers have been established in the U.S. to provide specialized care for pregnant people ex...
Mr Benton, where can I find a copy of your 25 flexible working practices / who moved my cheese book?

Proud of you.
All Organisms are genetic predictions as they are designed to fit their environment -- Richard Dawkins. Good design = survival of the fittest. Bad design = non survival. Making predictions is a syntropic process -- teleological. All organisms have the goal or target of surviving -- a syntropic process, teleological. Syntropy (prediction) is dual to increasing entropy -- the 4th law of thermodynamics! Teleological physics (syntropy) is dual to non teleological physics (entropy). Synergy is dual to energy -- energy is dual. All living things are made from energy hence life itself is dual! "Always two there are" -- Yoda.
How do they have universal healthcare and still take our money when we don’t have that very essential thing?
Usual suspects
There is no empirical evidence because too many peole have a vested interest in not getting the empirical evidence.
Apples, Pears and Oranges... All High Schools' Phis-Ed Curriculum should include firearm safety, range-time, and self-protection LAW. This woman wants you dead. She is (perhaps unknowingly) an active pawn of the 'Cabal.' Sure - "guns" simply "jump-off-the-counter-top" and "Kill' people." Good talk. (Idiot).
Nursing home ratios also need to be addressed
I find some of this is exaggerated. We don’t have an epidemic of high blood pressure. Most doctors take blood pressure wrong. We have an epidemic of badly taken blood pressure. We have noisy, crowded waiting rooms with televisions playing Fox News, especially at Penn. Of course blood pressure is high. He should push for better measurement systems. Also some of these diseases have a hereditary component. He says elsewhere that we focus on prolonging life, even a miserable life. That is more correct.
yes. gps enabled medical consumption. these people are evil.
Equity is there to extract the maximum profit out of a system designed to keep other people alive. Private equity can only make healthcare worse.
I wish reports would cover how nurses and CNAs ratios in nursing homes.
Then let's ask sellout doctor "have you seen uninsured poor not being treated decently with private equity takeovers of ers/hospitals?" He says "no, there's no evidence of this happening". Oh OK she says but should've been "what would you consider evidence if it were present?" Or has there been data collected on this" If he were the kind of doctor I wanted in charge of my life or death health care he would have been honest and said "I don't believe so but thereve not been real data collected on this" very disturbing to me
Omg this I a joke. Biggest is that md in his Norman Rockwell picture sweater. He is complete utter sellout to profit over human. Good luck patients who are dependent on him
😢😢
Private equity is toxic for healthcare and kills people. Steward health run by Cerberus capital has pillaged almost a billion $ from Massachusetts and is now closing hospitals across the state, this will have devastating long and short term impacts on thousands of jobs, and access to care for patients. The company made hundreds of millions and the commonwealth of Massachusetts go screwed, if this isn’t a perfect reason why private equity shouldn’t be in health care idk what is.
Safe and effective 😢
If they had ratios, you would have more Nurses. More people would learn to be nurses and you would retain more nurses long term.
Unbelievable stupid.
Unbelievable stupid.
the best part of listening to these whack jobs is that they actually wonder why people no longer want their medical products 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 no one say anything! 😂🤣🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂😂🤣😂🤣🤦🏿♂️😭😭😭😭
Some of the most disgraceful bullying coercion and deceit ever experienced. This vxn has a shameful legacy.
Why are most of the vaccinated dying suddenly?
Very tyrannical
I couldn't stop laughing at your 'virtual seminar' - what a joke!😂😂😂😂
They don't care period and I would venture to say that the system remains rigged against nurses because it is a female dominated profession. Women are toxic to other women. People in management should really take leadership classes because they all seem to be in power trips.
Less care for muslims more for jews
This is an issue with the GREEDY business people who use funds to line their pockets rather than concern about the patients.
Whattttt. Lol
Really helpful. I’ve added this to my teaching material.
'Promosm'
This an issue that needs to be looked at as a nation.
People who work at veterinary offices are paid better than nursing home staff in America
Absolutely so grateful this video has been shared Paul Starr has shared such a huge load of history and the social aspect of it with such powerful words and truths that EVERYONE needs to hear, digest and utilize to empower their thoughts and choices on health care.
Was listening to Freakonomics Radio on SXM and caught the beginning of their podcast about Temptation Bundling- didn’t get to hear the remainder so did a TH-cam search and now here I am lol
When it comes to ethics, the distribution and use of these funds raise several ethical questions. Some people believe that the funds should be used primarily for treatment and prevention programs for opioid addiction, while others argue that they should be used to compensate individuals and families who have suffered losses due to the epidemic. Another ethical issue is the question of accountability. Some people argue that the pharmaceutical companies should be responsible for the epidemic and held accountable for their actions and should be required to pay significant amounts of money to help address the problems. Others argue that the companies should not be held responsible. Overall, the use of opioid settlement funds is a complex issue that raises many ethical questions. An important point to remember is that doctors should be informing these patients of the indications, side effects and implications with these pharmaceuticals. It is up to policymakers, healthcare professionals and communities to work together to ensure that the funds are used in ways that help those affected.
Breast cancer screenings are important as they help detect breast cancer at an early stage when it is more treatable. Early detection increases the chances of survival and reduces the need for more invasive treatment. The ethics behind breast cancer screening involves that individuals are informed about the potential risks and benefits of screening. Patients should be given the opportunity to make an informed decision about whether or not to undergo screening. It is also important to ensure that the screening is accessible to all individuals, regardless of their SES or other factors. Additionally, patient privacy and confidentiality should be maintained throughout the screening process. Finally, it is important to ensure that the screening is conducted in an accurate and reliable manner, with appropriate quality control measures put in place.
What a terrible way to end. Dispute by guns Simply walk away!!!
New Heavenly Intervention. Someone please let the Americans know that the Holy Land has universal health care.
1:11 - NHI - New Heavenly Intervention Someone needs to tell the Americans that even God's chosen people have universal healthcare.
Yes payed by americans
Yea and us Americans pay for your healthcare.
@@archivez101 You don't.
@@scinwp we do
@archivez101 Nope. The US provides $3 billion in coupons for military purchases, and while money is fungible, those dollars are there to ensure the US is the sole supplier of Israeli weapons, mostly for leverage. So, no, you don't fund the Israeli healthcare system. Israeli citizens do.

Gruber th-cam.com/video/iHihDa_VPWw/w-d-xo.html THIS is how the liberal elite REALLY think of their voter base.... Punish them into submission/compliance, because they are just too stupid to know better and people always believe the sales pitch that one can get free stuff, because ONLY 'wealthy' people will be paying.
I would love to help reforming sick care into effective Healthcare system.
