There are many old things in the forest… A thousand years ago, on a snowcapped mountain range deep in a dense forest, In an expertly crafted cabin, lived a thousand year old elf. This giant beast kept to himself. For decades the nearby villagers in the foothills spoke of this ancient wood spirit, they called… “The Kringle” . Fearing an encounter, the townspeople would stay far away from him and warn their kids not to travel too deep into the woods. This elf selects the finest wood to craft and you can sometimes hear the slam of his formidable axe against the ancient trees. The villages are visited by tax collectors every two years. This year they brought a small contingent of soldiers with them. To the villagers horror, the soldiers decreed that young boys were to be taken as next year’s army conscripts. Whenever any parents dared to protest, they were immediately and violently cut down by the monstrous, horned helmed agents. Parents were given one year to have them ready . Troops will return the next winter to collect them. The elf in the woods was saddened by the screams and cries and by the soldiers words, words flying in the wind, straight up the mountain and into his elven ears. “Children shouldn’t have to fight wars”, he thought. He began to carve little wooden figures, deers, unicorns, knights, princesses. He crafted them masterfully, and set them aside one by one, each with an inscription at the base of the figure. An entire year had passed when he began to smell the torches of the warriors approaching, armored, black clad soldiers who would come claim the children of the villagers below. Seizing his legendary axe he rushes into the night. Upon seeing the troops from above, he begins to softly exhale, blowing a breeze into the air off the mountain side. The small breath begins to gather strength and momentum, growing into a torrent of snow and wind, cutting into the small army. The soldiers are slammed with an unnatural blizzard. Temperatures drop dramatically, and their numbers dwindle. The men struggle to bring their massive horses through the tough terrain still moving toward the villages. The Kringle continues down the mountain side towards them, his steps gliding atop the snow, as the army struggles to move through the knee high powder. From the mountain side above their position, with a mighty clap of his massive bare hands, he sends an avalanche rumbling down towards the armored band. It crashes into them, covering 2/3 of the small contingent . Their superstitions begin to get the better of the men, but the captain is undeterred. His formidable lieutenants and the surviving troops head towards the villages, more convinced than ever, that they need to bolster their numbers. The Kringle is angered and begins to run straight at them, through the trees, they suddenly see a blur, followed by another on the opposite side. The soldiers are filled with dread. Feeling surrounded… they recoil in horror and surprise to see a great axe hurtling towards one of the lieutenants. It wedges deep in his chest with amazing force, knocking him off his steed. The remaining soldiers scramble towards the wood, in the direction the axe came from, leaving the captain and his lieutenants behind. The captain turns to behold a giant form retrieving his axe from within the fallen soldier. The Kringle turns towards the captain, his eyes blazing with an icy blue stare. The other soldiers examining the surroundings find nothing. suddenly they hear their commander yell in agony and start back immediately… They reach the site to see that the captain is not on his horse and his officers lay dead. As they inspect the scene, little drops of blood rain down on them. They turn their eyes upward and see the captain impaled in the branches above at an impossible height! Without a single sound, Kringle appears behind them, the first horseman turns and starts a cumbersome ride straight towards the elf in the deep snow. The giant punches him right off his horse, caving his chest in. The man slowly suffocates as the last two soldiers filled with terror, try to make their escape down the mountain side. To their surprise, they are cut off by the giant form. The warhorses are spooked, and throw the riders off their backs and onto the snow . The giant walks upon one of the soldiers, raising his axe, and with one blow, splits the man in two! Horrified, the last soldier runs for his life, tumbling down the mountain side to get away, slams his head on a jagged rock. He falls silent swallowed up by the frost and deep snow. He survived the Kringle but, not the fall. Satisfied, the huge elf starts back up the mountain towards his home. That evening fell a heavy snow, as if to cover or erase last night’s scene. The next morning the families gather up their children, make them ready, packing them food, waiting for the soldiers to arrive and come take them away. The soldiers never make it to the village that clear crisp morning. The villagers, puzzled by this start opening their doors, and instead of soldiers, they find little wooden carved statues, one for each child of the village, a gift, a toy, a small present. One of the boys reaches for a little wooden carved statue of a knight on a horse. “Can you read the inscription underneath the base?” He asks his father… it simply reads; “this is all a child should have to worry about”. The parents, stunned, confused and elated by the miracle all at once!Their children are not going anywhere after all! The village folk never forgot what happened that winter. The story was told, the myths grew and today we celebrate togetherness with our families and our children, and toys on Christmas morning.
Awesome work!!!! What shade of green do you use on the vehicles!
Thanks! Olive drab
Do the helmets just pop onto the body or did you have to modify them?
Just a little blue tack, to make em snug.
