Michele Angelini - Verdi - Falstaff - Fenton’s Aria
Returning to the role that began it all, Fenton in Verdi’s final masterpiece, Falstaff. This was my very first role when I was 19 and has remained a role close to his heart, even if I haven’t been offered many occasions to sing it. I’m thrilled to have had this recent opportunity and am delighted to share this with you.

In honor of the passing of the legendary Renata Scotto, I decided to upload this memory. I began studying with Renata in 2004 and my last collaboration with her was my debut as Elvino in her production of "La sonnambula" (Bellini) with Florida Grand Opera in 2013. In autumn of 2007, I made my debut as Ferrando in "Così fan tutte" with the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma and Renata had graciously atte...

Tenor’s candid thoughts about role preparation! How do we learn new music?
Hi guys! It’s just me thinking aloud about some of the challenges we singers have to face when preparing new music and some of the tools I use to help me overcome them. This is completely off-the-cuff and unscripted. I hope that you will find it interesting and helpful, especially if you are a singer or someone who works with singers. Stay tuned for more in the near future!
Wait…he wrote what for tenor??

I was excited when I was asked to take part in the first modern performances of one of the most popular operas of the 1830s, with a star tenor role written for the great Giovanni David, in Pacini’s “Gli arabi nelle gallie” (The Arabs in Gaul). It’s one of the more challenging roles I’ve taken on, not least in part because we must decipher a contemporary hand-written piano-vocal score and an err...

Happy birthday, Mr. Angelini! I’m devoting a few hours listening to your recordings, and watching your performances on TH-cam. Thank you!
Try to lift your tongue in the back as high as you can!
What a horrible note to have to sing... yours was the prettiest ive heard!
Bravissimo. Aderenza alla scrittura del personaggio veramente invidiabile ❤❤❤
Bravissimo ❤
I love the barbier of sevilla. Thanks. Greetings from the Netherlands. Andreas.
Bravissimo ❤
Sencillamente maravilloso.
NOBODY holds it that long! Bravo. No, you definitely DON'T want to go with a narrow 'E' vowel. You want it open and free. Focused but free. You should be a fine Arturo.
"Swedish"...
You certainly know he's arrived!
Et en plus vous trillez !
bravissimoooooooo
beautiful voice, amazing

Bella voce ! Tempi un po lenti per cominciare
bravo
Thank you for this great performance! :)
What a beautiful performance! I heard and saw you singing at the Concertgebouw Amsterdam in Semiramide. You made a very huge impression then. What a voice and stage presence. Bravo!
Grazie mille! Allora, cosa abbiamo adesso? Tre Abbado (Pesaro, Vienna e Berlino), Dantone (La Scala), Barbacini (Helsinki), Lopez-Cobos (Barcellona), Gatti (Pesaro), Montanari (Roma), Zedda (La Coruña), e Rustione - Firenze!
falsetto
Falsetto is unmusical. This is head voice. Very different from falsetto.
Someone unaliveeeee the conductor.
Bravi belli!
Wonderful!
It just shows how low we have sunk as a culture that any tenor that can get all the notes is hailled as the best thing since sliced bread!
🔥🔥
Beautiful voice with so much warmth.
It's perfect, may I suggest you think an ee as in smile, the word Nero, or the the English word 'Nay'
Inhalare la voce, your public sits behind you
If I may, that is exactly the vowel I am avoiding to sing. Quite frankly, too many tenors are taught to squeeze down on closed vowels and this is why they struggle to sing high notes. It may have been necessary for a singer like Rubini who sang with a falsettone, which would have allowed the sound to be more pointed and directed, but singing with a fully connected head voice doesn’t need to be squashed down, it needs to be vertical and released. If you watch, my approach is very simple: begin in a tall position so that the lower notes are already accomodating the space needed for the C#, taking care to let them vibrate, which allows for a proper legato for the larger interval. Once there, I keep the note (the breath) moving as much as possible, a small diminuendo before returning to full volume while deeping the note, always thinking of verticality and upwards release. To sing the vowel you suggest would not allow me or anyone to achieve that kind of balance, and it often results in a very forward, nasal, and spread sound, which is, frankly, unattractive, but is sadly the sound we have all grown accustomed to from tenors, particularly in Belcanto works. I hope that helps. :)
I could not agree more , you are absolutely right. Been watching your vid for a few times now and indeed the vertical approach and preparation in the lower notes before works perfectly. I'm a tenor myself and learned something from you. Thnx!
May i ask if you keep your larynx low postioned on E before singing C#? Your vowel sounds do beautifully open up there.
@@RonaldOudmans I find it is unhelpful to think too much about the larynx. It needs to be natural and bouyant, automatically in the appropriate position…you should only be worried if you feel or see it coming up, but “holding or pushing it down” only creates unnecessary and unhelpful tension. The breath is more important to focus on.
beautifully done
