Part 1 of 4. I was present in 1983 when Apple launched the Macintosh. Ridley Scott shot the commercial - I shot him shooting it for Apple. A circle of ideas. Prisoners are what we are if we cannot chamnge our thinking paterns.

This building is stunning. I walked past it at the weekend and love how it's right next to another market - Leadenhall. The City never fails to visually excite me and I feel privileged to live here.
This didn’t age well
Doing a bit of Research on Eleventh Hour. Apparently there was a booklet you could send off for to accompany this series. Does anyone know what the booklet's title was? I want to see if I can find it in the BFI library. So great to see this series on TH-cam!
Thank you for sharing. He is family. I was 14 when we visited him in 1999. We stayed for hours while he showed us his sleds and his catch.
The King's favourite building. 😄
Thanks - fascinating stuff. That adventurer called 'Sheldon' sounds interesting anyone know anything?
Jesus, guys. All talk and no showing of pipes.
It's shit, but it isn't.
Hi when was this filmed? It looks like early 1980’s but wondering if you know the year. Thanks
1988
Amazing i was very lucky to grow up just down the Road. Just as I remember it. Lovely Chap!
Love this , I am an amateur potter whom deeply admires the Leach pottery as well as the Leach pottery philosophy. Thanks for sharing !
I started working for a London broking firm in the early 80's and saw the building being finished off. At the time, it really wasn't appreciated, but now, well, what an iconic building. It'll be a shame if Lloyd's moves out but Covid had quite an effect on its occupancy...
living in the old Byker was damp mould slums, the new Byker housing warm dry clean but the inhabitants have changed that's the problem not the housing, people destroy good neighbour hoods that's the problem, when Parishes closed that was the first nail in the coffin
The problem. The Homeless regulations, just a tick box lottery. It amazes me they still talk about waiting lists. Followed closely by useless housing management, little enforcement of tenancy regulations and the usual do gooders. My qualification, working class background and I worked in housing for 25 years. Outlook for hard working British people, not in their hands as it should be in a true democracy.
I am the guy reading out the rules of burglary from 40.40 minutes and I haven’t seen it since then I look so young and fresh faced Ha ha I’m not even an actir now I’m an opera singer. Very strange watching it. “In the building “is my catchphrase ha ha
Ye’ve got the rang accent to talk aboot Byker pet! Does not look like that nu. Still 👍 to channel for finding this and sticking it up.
This is what you want a potter to look and sound like! Sadly, this lovely man passed away in 2021, leaving behind a remarkable body of work. Several examples in the V&A.
this is a wendys
I live there unfortunately..........it’s criminal that the council destroyed a community and built a festering sewer in its place.
No one wanted to live in the old damp Tynside flats anymore.
than you for the reflections!
Confusing

Such a sad loss, much admired, thoughts are with his family and friends.
Just riveting to listen too. Remember first finding him as a student in the 80's in 'Ceramics Mounty' magazine.
Lovely flim of a very talented potter with all the interesting thinking of working with clay. Here is to you John.
What a knowledgeable and humble man! Such tranquil voice and presence!
I love Annie's perfectionism witht he backing singers while she plays the synth, this is SO utterly GREAT!.
An incredible gift for you to share this priceless footage with anyone who wants to see it, thank you very much.
I loved this film when I saw it years ago, and again today. Would love to visit someday
People watching this should be aware that Hoppy was very ill when it was filmed. It's a heroic effort he's making here.
Respect for the guy ,I liked his enthusiasm in the 60s his ideas and views (ufo)as well .The interviewer is much louder that I have to turn it down as its quite late at the moment as hoppys voice is so soft .
Byker wall........awful.......criminal how people were put in here out of a lovely valley...what did you do to them
Crap
Phenomenal interview and tremendous wealth of knowledge. 9 years.. wow.
Looovvveee the Eurytmics they are so original so authentical.Annies voice is just stunning my favorite Artist. Amazing..
We lived in that community in the mid 80s was an amazing place, its an absolute dump now graffiti and run down.
People who designed this should be made to live here forever
Living anywhere in byker is torture
Totally agree 100%
It looks like a prison
What a beautiful interview - well spoken and full of passion for the craft!
come back now and its a shit hole
I think this is the ugliest building I have ever seen
Love this piece.
Amazing interview. Thank you.
I would demolish this in a heartbeat. It's pig ugly from the outside and detracts from the buildings around it. Is there any truth in the rumour that the architect was savaged to death by his guide dog? It's sole redeeming feature is that there are bigger buildings around it which hide this disgusting bomb site from view.
you sound like you are raised by a pair of dogs in a landfill
May be the best late XX century building in London. Also, may be the only one good from that era.
Yeah the late 80s early 90s especially was Neo Classical, Postmodern or Neo Gothic like the Minster Building just round the corner from this. dreadful.
I don’t like only one thing in this building it’s not deservedly the tenants occupies office space there
???
They should stop nuilding student flats and put the students in there. Give the locals the nice flats, that would be a laugh.
That's so true ,why build love it's all wrongly places for students there living in luxury while everyone els lives in shit hols
Fucking shithole! 🖕🏼
Waste of time! The song was never played!
Now South Bend's savant sages, those teen-aged wacky wunderkinds who are quite Beyond Our Control, can chew on this sort of video history and be even more well-informed. Quite.
A monstrosity that is now protected by a grade 2 listing. It should be demolished and proper homes put in its place. TEAR DOWN THE WALL
Great interview, thanks!
