Would ty Cobb hit .400 in the year 2024 ? It’s tough to say . But if you dropped the prime version of him in any year from 1970-2010 or so , and any year before then for that matter , but I singled out those years specifically because with the switch from flannel to synthetic fabrics , the prevalence of Astro turf , and considering the fact that going from playing in the dead ball era to the modern game would be like pitching to todays players with tennis balls AND metal bats , I’m confident that his .366 lifetime average was no fluke , and he’s pretty much going to remain one of the top 5 greatest pure hitters for time immemorial .

What on earth are you talking about? Ty Cobb, a Georgian, probably never saw a hockey game in his life, much less played on a Stanley Cup winner. By the way, the Montreal Maroons won the 1926 Stanley Cup--not the Canadiens.

  • @ryananzisi996

As far as Cobb as a person he like many others falls short. Just from a baseball standpoint his stats with hitting and base running particularly are phenomenal his career batting avg .366 will most likely never come close to being attained again especially as the game has changed. That plus the nearly 900 steals put him in a elite class not to mention 4191 hits to record that stood for well over a half century until Pete Rose broke in the 1980s. It must be noted that rose took nearly 3000 more at bats to attain. His character must be part of his story and it had some serious issues but many past baseball greats had less than stellar parts as all humans were flawed. You could may a strong argument for him as best ever. I think you could make this for a handful of others such as Ruth, Mays, Bonds ( Drugs or not), Aaron, Williams ( At least offensively) and maybe even Gehrig and Musial. I think without question Cobb is on that short list of Best Players Ever.

Much of the negative things we've heard about Cobb's character have been exagerrated, or were downright lies. The biography of him, "Ty Cobb, A Terrible Beauty" clears up a great deal of this.
