Hey, what’s some advice you’d give to an undergraduate physics and maths major that also wants to get jacked?
Lmao insane how similar our experiences are. End of year 12 I was predicted D in maths E in physics and U in chemistry, and was unbelievably close to getting kicked out of school. Ended up with 4 A stars in maths, fm (took privately), physics and chem. Taking a gap year myself because I couldn't apply to anywhere with those predicted grades
Very similar but honestly you completely outperformed me at A levels. Huge congrats and I hope applications go well!
bro well done that's mad
hi, can you give me any tips on how to build a better intuition behind some of the physics concepts in A-level and also just how can I evolve to have a more physics type of mind so that problem solving comes somewhat easier. love your content
Great advice
Thanks bud.
incredible stuff! Also doing Math, Physics and Bio :)
Yo Alex I wanted to know what uni you went to for undergrad, I am applying myself and was going to do mathematics, what advice would you give to someone still deciding what to do in uni especially STEM related ?
How did you go in those exams you did and few months ago? Just watched that video where you drank enough caffeine to kill a horse and nailed the exams but now I am dying to know if you are happy with how you went? I understand if you don't want to share - no problem.
I am literally going through this at the moment😢 I really want to go and study engineering but my marks at the moment is uugh
nice im about to pick maths physics and biology too
0:01 Is that all snus?, 16:36 its all snus
are you south african?
Indeed I am
Excellent advice, you’re a real inspiration and your channel should be be bigger but you at least have a fan from me!
You’re an absolute inspiration please continue making videos
New vid this week.
@@Alex.Lombardi fantastic news 🔥
You are providing value. Keep it up 👍🏼
My dream is to study mmath at Oxford uni 🤲✈️🇬🇧
This is the course I wanna do after i finish my undergrad. And about 1 in 6 people who apply gets in. Did you like do research contributions in undergrad?
I did not do any research in my undergrad. I just made good relationships with lecturers so they were able to write a lot about me for references and got decent grades.
Great advice - glad it all worked out for you!
Cheers bro
My bro looks 35yo
Did you go to Oxford for undergrad? How did you get in if you surely had bad predicted grades? :)
I went to Exeter Uni and i took and gap year and applied with my actual grades.
@@Alex.LombardiHow did you find exeter?
Hey Alex can you please do a video of textbooks to self teach undergrad physics
dude you're huge
Farrr too kind.
tysm, this really resonated,i have my mocs next week and honestly havent done alot until the last week, realy inspiring and helped me know what hardwork i need to do after these mocs to improve despite whatever results i get
WHILE THE LECTURER COPIES THE INFORMATION FROM PAPERS ,THERE IS NO NEED TO LISTEN..NO INSPIRATION AND NO MOTIVATION..VERY HEART BREAKING..........
Yes. Better send the written materials directly to students and stop wasting their time with such a "lecture". The lecture must have a real usefulness. If the lecture amounts to copying material that is already written somewhere else, then such a "lecture" is a huge waste of students' time.
What were your results from terms 1 ? 😊 Watching you from Sydney Australia 🇦🇺
you should a video about your time in your undergrad degree
Hi, can i ask what your grades were like a bit more specifically at undergrad? What uni did you go to? Thanks for the video
He went to Exeter for undergrad
Einstein didn't say anything of that. But relativistic effects were indeed used to understand why mercury is a liquid metal.
Yeah. Thesis is required for my MS in Statistics in the US. Kinda crazy. Especially since I’m considering industry. Good you have a choice.
Honestly looking back at it. I think a diss would’ve been very good, honestly would’ve been a pain but useful. Looks great on a CV so for industry I’d highly recommend doing one and tailoring it to the job you’d want to go into.
That is one of plus and negatives with commercial. Plus is 24hr many and chain so can join many. Negative compared to a private bodybuilding gym, is that they do not have social and same atmosphere. You can easily meet friends to share training advice, spot you and better friendly culture. Not everyone in their own mini world with earrphones on 😂
On the money mate.
Ah, Lie theory, the elegant dance of symmetry and transformation in the realm of abstract algebraic structures! One cannot help but marvel at its intricate interplay of Lie algebras and exponential maps, weaving a tapestry of mathematical elegance that transcends mere mortal comprehension. As we delve deeper into the mysterious depths of group theory and representations, we find ourselves awash in a sea of profound abstraction, where the very essence of reality itself seems to shimmer and shift beneath our intellectual gaze. Truly, Lie theory beckons us to explore the sublime beauty of mathematical abstraction, where truth and beauty converge in a harmonious symphony of mathematical enlightenment.
I marvelled at how it railed a whole class.
English, please.

Hi! I've been accepted in OMMS (Master in Mathematical Sciences) and MMathPhys. My pathway would be biophysics and so there are also some course in OMMS that allow you to take relevant modules also. Do you know anyone taking this pathway? How do they feel about it? Are both masters equally valued or is there one with higher reputation than another? I would appreciate very much any recommendation and personal advice:)
What was your bachelors in that got you accepted to both pure math and physics ? Really want to know. Did you take both math and physics courses in bachelors, how much both ?
Yes😅 In Spain bachelors are 4 years (240 ECTS) and few universities offer studying a double bachelor in maths and physics (318 ECTS) and its around 162 and 156 in each...But most people spend at the end almost 6 years (instead of the 8 required separetely) to finish everything (you have to writte 2 full dissertations in each area...). Although I've studied this, I guess I've been very lucky to be accepted in both. Any recommendations?
Love that you reference Gauss and Euler as the best. Cauchy and guys like Wierstrass (analysis) are Maverick-like though. And Riemann of course. Also: no GR or QFT?
Trusting the maths vs trusting intuition: literally the bane of my life in my TP course. Interesting to hear you refer to it as "nonsense", which many times I would do. So what keeps you going through the nonsense?
I think you mentioned you wanted a career in quant finance or quant trading. Why did you not take a MSc in financial mathematics at Edinburgh university or Warwick or Imperial or LSE all do them and global ranked universities. Then you would ve learning mathematics needed and complex derivatives etc . Or i think Oxford also do masters in computational finance.
Because I just wanted to learn about quantum fields and strings first haha.
Are you still attending Oxford and if so, how far in your gym from the campus or where you live?
The gym I go to is quite central in the city centre. I live a little bit outside past the maths building so it takes me about 20 minutes
🙂🙃
yo alex. how many hours do you spend in the library a week? i’ve heard horror stories about the course. and how do you find time for the gym
Uh, honestly feels like non stop. I'd say around like 6-8 hours of genuine work a day Monday-Sunday
Glad you are keeping sane by working out while doing an analytical masters degree. Gym and tennis kept me sane while doing Masters in financial mathematics.
Gotta have the sports in there somewhere
Fascinating monologue and explanations mate breaking things down enjoyed learning what you’re doing and why👍
Ah very much kind of you sir.
love the channel, Alex! I agree - there's a lot of empty talk of "IQ" and "effortless excellence" but really the answer is always, regardless of the noise, work (and caffeine + nicotine). I think a lot of people get the impression, especially from the gamification of GCSEs/A-Levels, that passion/substance doesn't really play a role in academics. in fact, this attitude doesn't just result in never finding a lasting passion, but bakes-in the self-esteem issues some face re defining themselves by grades/prestige. the irony is that the prestige is acquired by those least driven by it; those drawn to the underlying substance beneath the grades. QED: passion is always the answer. trite but true. they don't know me son!
U participate in the pancake race at oriel college?
315 for 6 reps is solid performance.
yo alex. i commented a couple weeks back. turns out i got accepted at worcester college! your videos are helpful keep making them for incoming students like me
Ah unreal result mate, huge congrats. Keep up the hard work lad, that's all you.
What career after are you wanting?
ideally a quant analyst
@@Alex.Lombardi could have done MSc in financial mathematics or Oxford do masters in quantitative finance
@@davidc4408 he b chilling tho
bro is smart and has a thanos build. absolute legend
flattering me
a real role model.
Dude yiur srks look rough snd rugged keeo that shit up!
What career are you wanting? I would recommend cominh down to shoulders for better range of motion. 8 reps if at high weight. If not then drop down to 45kg or less. When you are on own to get around forced sets, just drop set to a lighter weight amd do more drop sets to get that same pump
love your gym videos but prefer your story talks more so i would like to see a video like this! (Revision) 🤝😉 keep at it
