Is Gnome Suitable For Low-End PCs?
I've always been wondering, do fully featured desktop environments such as Gnome use significantly more system resources than lighter desktops like LXDE? Is the performance difference significant enough to cause problems on low end systems? In this video we will answer those questions.

You've been gnomed
oh no
13:00 You kidding ? That works :) Hahaha 🧙♂ Will try for the fun of it.
hell yeah
I tried this with Batman: Arkham City and it let me click launch, and it showed running for about thirty seconds but then closed itself and I never saw a window open. Do you know how to fix this? I've tried enabling multiple protons.
Game is probably just too heavy for the pi.
I run this with a 3090Ti. I am never disappointed.
Merry Christmas
Happy holidays!
i have a mc server running for my cousin and I on a raspberry pi 4 8gb of ram overclocked to 2.2ghz running ubuntu so i can do auto backup of the server if it weren't for that i would be running raspberry pi lite and i'm giving 6gb of ram to the server and i'm using fabric for my server so i can get sodium, sodium extra, ferritecore, debugify, clumps, chunky and let me despawn to help the raspberry pi 4 as much as i can and still i have an average of 40 ticks behind in the base with two players playing and when i go exploring or my cousin goes exploring it goes up to 133 ticks behind the lag is not noticeable but it starts to be noticeable at 170 ticks behind
and flying with an Elytras with fireworks is walking around with your fingers crossed that the server doesn't crash
I've been thinking about maybe buying a Raspberry Pi 5 or a mini PC with the N100. The only thing that has me undecided is whether to get the Raspberry Pi 5, which consumes 9W of power but is less powerful than the N100, or whether to get the N100, which is more powerful but consumes more power at 25W.
If you want to run mods and do rapid chunk loading like that I would probably recommend the mini pc as the extra performance will be significant for your application.
make sure you have 10bit tag support turned on... not in auto ... !!!! You can push the 3200 ram to 3333 without any problems most of the time. Make sure all your pcie slots are set to gen4 not auto. You should turn off memory compression in windows also, that a real killer for video editing. You should try my fiber post also for speed.

Use Fabric server + 30+ optimisation mod to run a Minecraft server on toast machine(you can join to server with Vanilla version)
Yup, pi 3 is about on the limit for a server - with an SSD, fan/heatsink, zram for extra ram, overclock and ofc all the optimisation mods it's just about playable. At least the latest versions of java (and thus Minecraft) support armhf, not so much x86...
Hey there! The error you got on pi 2 and the pi 3 for the latest minecraft version seems to be just from having a lower java runtime version, you can find an ARM version of something like java 21 on the official oracle site.
Thank you!
I have run a MC server on a pi 2 before, but that was quite a few years ago. MC 1.8 i think. It worked about as well as the pi 3 here. Insane block lag and getting timed out.. The pi 5 is quite amazing, i think it runs the server better than my fanless intel mini PC..
The Pi 5 is basically at the point where it can be used as a low-power desktop, heck it can even play Minecraft pretty well (with Optifine/Sodium/etc)
At one point I think I was able to run the server and a client on the same machine with no significant slowdown. It’s impressive how fast it is.
At 4:25 it reboots because at the first boot the Pi OS does some setup work, like expanding the filesystem to the entire SD card and setting up all the stuff you entered in the RPi image flasher program.
Yeah but why does it give me a log in prompt if it’s not ready for me to log in yet tho?
@@trog871 its just part of the boot process
did he just call us all troglodytes ☠
yes
Here the real questions
Indeed
@@trog871you should use paper MC It allows you to set custom global mob limits and also chunk limits so each person can only load so many chunk at the same time
You could manually install the new versions of Java from source or run OpenJDK instead of oracle Java and I'm fairly sure you could get it running on the 3. Keep it up man, just got shot this on my for-you page randomly so YT appears to like you!

Brother, you have potential. Just clean up your filming area. Close the bathroom door and move the qtips and bag on the floor and people will take you seriously. keep up the good work.
I’ll take your feedback into consideration.
@@trog871I suggest foam sound panels. They prevent echos.
I might upgrade to a microphone that’s from this decade as well
Don't listen to them. Next video should be filmed in the bathtub.
This isn't bad advice but also most people genuinely do not care about such minor details like "oh no this youtuber has a bathroom !!! i can't possibly take that seriously !!!!" is an outlandish way to think people would react.
I sometimes host a server for my friends on a Pi 4 8GB RAM, it works really well but there are some catches. I managed to run a Paper server (MC server with plugin support, with 2GB dedicated) and a Forge server (mods server, with 5GB dedicated) simultaneously. But any server alone had severe lag problems when chunks generation was happening. but there is a somewhat easy way arround wich is chuck pre generator plugins/mods like Chunky (this has a plugin version and a mod version). The chunks pre generation may take about a two or three days depending on how big of an area you want to pre-generate (considering nether and the end also need pre generation), but after that it runs way smoother than most free to low cost server hosts you can find in the internet. Oh i also used Crafty Controller (via Docker) to manage my servers more easily.
woah that’s amazing pre-generated chunks sounds like a fantastic idea for keeping CPU load way down
Use Fabric + 30+ optimisation mod
Love this video, тяog!

If you check out iriun (two parts, phone app and desktop webservr) You can tether your phone to the pc for a super low latency virtual camera through your phone. From there you treat it as devices in obs. And a tripod :)
Would you believe I’ve had that old Logitech webcam for probably well over a decade at this point…? Yeah I really need to upgrade it one of these days. I’ll look in to your suggestion. Thank you!

I *just* upgraded to 9950x from 5950x 2 weeks ago. I've been using Intel chips in all my computers since 1992 !! 5950x was my first AMD chip ever.. and it was the greatest decision I ever made. Not only did I avoid the entire Intel CPU degradation issue, but AMD absolutely smashed it out the park with all their recent processors. I don't game, I don't even have a graphics card - but for the work I do.. it was like moving to the future. I work in audio (production, mastering, mixing etc.) and it is INTENSIVE on the CPU both single core and multi core processing because an audio track being played back and processed in real-time with effects on can only be done on a single core - overall hundreds of audio tracks can be spread across all cores in multiprocessing, but single tracks must be done all on single core. So, these processors are built almost perfectly for that type of work. The speed, loading time of multi-gigabyte sample libraries into memory, stability, latency, responsiveness - I'm firmly team red now. Enjoy your processor. I wasn't exactly struggling with mine. I do tend to max out and peg the processor at 100% towards the end of finishing a piece of music.. so having a ton of additional processing headroom now is really great to have.
Hell yeah bro, I was on a bit of a music production kick a few years ago. It’s fun.
@@trog871 I got sucked in 20 years ago and haven't been able to kick the habit. It's a black hole of money - there's always another upgrade, another plugin, a new set of speakers, acoustic treatment etc... I still produce music, but I do a lot of mastering work as well these days, As chips have gotten better and better over all this time, it's been so exciting being able to add more and more layers and effects in real time and the processor not even break a sweat. I don't think most people really use their CPU to its limit at all - even rendering 3D work is done on the GPU and any CPU implementation only happens when you hit 'GO' at the end. Complex music production projects rev your CPU to it's limit the entire time the project is open and running and stays there. Anyway, having done this for so long - I'm thrilled whenever I upgrade and get to see exactly how much more you can do with just one CPU. The flagship AMD chips are like a leap forward I've never witnessed. An old project that couldn't even be opened before because it overloaded the processor - it would stutter out some defected audio artifact every 5 seconds or so.. New processor, project opens in 3 seconds and sits at 30% usage... waiting for more punishment. 😮
Got my first am4+ asrock b550 pro R 7 3700x.I went to a 5800x and x570 taichi because the mobo was buggy.
Chrult4Life! (From 315-3H LMDE)
nice!
This is an interesting contrast compared to playing HL2 natively on the Raspberry Pi 5 via the source code leak. Native performance is (unsurprisingly) far better. I get low 30's - high 50's FPS at 1280x720 with a mix of low and medium settings.

Nice Vid! I recently Triple-Booted a CN65 Chromebox 3 on my channel. So Far emulation is pretty decent.
ooh nice
Question. Can you use the Net installer to install to an NVMe ssd thats on the Raspberry pi Hat instead of going to an sd card?
I think so?? I know historically the only way to boot from an nvme was to first boot from an SD card, type some commands to allow the bios to boot from nvme and then copy your install to an nvme. Again the text was so bloody small in that install screen that I honestly don’t have a clue what was actually in there. So I have absolutely no idea.
@@trog871 I think i will try it when my newest 5 shows up tomorrow afternoon, I will report back and see if it will

I can revisit this concept in the future
