Best Reddit. Was I Really the Bad Influence on Your Family ? Now Look Who Needs Help ?
The story revolves around a complicated and ultimately toxic friendship between the narrator and a man named Dave. Dave and his wife, Shelly, were struggling financially after selling their home, hoping to upgrade to a larger one. But due to their unwillingness to adjust their expectations or budgets, they found themselves unable to secure a new home, often facing bidding wars they couldn't win. As they searched for housing, they became increasingly reliant on others for free places to stay, moving from one friend's home to another, much to the frustration of the people who were kind enough to take them in.
Dave, especially, was unwilling to make any changes, like raising his budget or considering an apartment, despite the escalating tensions between them and their friends. The couple’s unwillingness to help out or contribute, especially with things like groceries, made it clear they were taking advantage of people's hospitality. Eventually, they even considered asking the narrator for help, despite their previous comments about the narrator being a "bad influence" on their family due to their child-free lifestyle.
The situation became increasingly strained, and Dave eventually contacted the narrator with a sob story about needing a place to stay because his water heater had broken, though it later turned out that this was a lie. The narrator realized Dave and Shelly were trying to manipulate their way into a free place to stay, possibly to avoid paying for a hotel or an apartment. Fed up with being taken advantage of and remembering how Dave had insulted them in the past, the narrator decided to cut ties with them for good, sending Dave a message to express their anger and disappointment.
After that, Dave's life took a downward turn. Shelly, tired of his behavior, left him, taking the kids with her. Dave struggled to keep a job and alienated anyone who might have been willing to help him. Eventually, he found himself in a dire situation-living in a rundown apartment, sick, and without support. His life fell apart, and he died after a prolonged illness. The narrator, while feeling a bit of sadness, ultimately felt that Dave had brought this tragic end upon himself through his stubbornness, pride, and refusal to take responsibility for his actions. In the end, the story serves as a reflection on the consequences of selfishness and how a person’s actions can isolate them from the very people who might have once cared.

Divorce him, he isn't contributing anything to the relationship and you won't even miss him when he's gone. You're doing all the work, making all the money, and handling the kids. He's just getting a free ride. And he obviously has some serious issues that you don't need to be around. Also how old are these kids? Why don't you make them clean the house? Chores are a good way to teach kids responsibility and you won't do them any favors by just letting them coast like their father does.
Op: aigainst traditional gender roles Also OP: is angry her father left her mother, because he isn’t happy anymore (no cheating mentioned) For this: YTA
Your brace was a bad choice for this lesson I only hope you haven't done more damage to it by not wearing it....I hope it's ok and heals quickly
Tell him. Don't complain about it online. That's my advice. "AITA and ghosting", that's kids stuff.
Okay but what happened?
How would op and his sister like it if dad invited all his friends to their birthday party
@@stevealexander5415 i believe her dad wouldnt do it either.
I'm very introverted and withdrawn and would be very pissed if someone did this to me.
.....WHAT? This post would be so much better and perhaps actually be capable of eliciting some useful responses if the OP would simply revise it and speak plainly and just say exactly what she means rather than trying to dance around saying anything that might make her feel uncomfortable.

Oh for heaven's sake, grow up! From what you initially said, you only invited 2 people, your father and grandmother. I truly fail to see how inviting a 3rd person, someone you know, is causing so much stress and anxiety. How does it complicate things? Hopefully, you're paying for this meal, since you invited these people; if you can't afford to pay for a 4th person, perhaps you dad can pay for her meal. Stop making this such a big thing! At some point, most people grow up and stop "celebrating" birthdays like they're 10.
@@christinef7739 yeah maybe the kinda point i didnt see. maybe next time i would invite her.
op wants family only. doesnt see step mom or her mom as family.
@@Monster-ks2yx She doesn't say that. She's only whining about anxiety and stress and complications. It's a meal for 3 people, not a state dinner with the King of England and President.
A person has to listen to their own heart in the matter, so if you don't feel comfortable simply don't go

@@christinef7739 the same way i think it is. but its my nephew either way. i just cant leave ..
So, there hasn't been much contact because she was a horrible mother, but you all want to go to her wedding because you need to keep the peace? Seriously? And even if you leave your beliefs about marriage out of it, you're being supportive of someone who is marrying this woman just for her money. I wouldn't want to attend just for that reason. MIL probably wants you there to make it look legitimate. If you're traveling a long way, use that as an excuse not to bring your children at all. Let them stay at home with a babysitter. Then you and your husband can attend and paste on your fake smiles to "keep the peace."

My opinion: let the girl sleep with you! The novelty will wear off after a while, and she'll go in her own bed once she gets tired of you snoring all night long. Until then a chance to bond with someone who obviously is in need of a mother figure in her life. 🤗
@@nordicexile7378 maybe its just a new thing for me, i trully need to open more space in my mind for it.
He’s gotten too comfortable. You’re providing and doing everything around the house, he won’t change. Take your kids and leave that house coz if cps sees the kids living in that state you may lose them. From this post, I don’t see any positives he is bringing to your life. Just isolation and stress.
You are allowed to feel hurt. But you didn't actually have an agreement because an agreement requires both parties to have a meeting of the minds (i.e. agree about what was agreed). You should not expect anyone but yourself to be upset that he didn't honor an agreement that he doesn't think he made. This is mostly a you issue. Since you aren't dating him, you need to move on for him. Planing on dating people in the future is just a bad idea. If you feel you need to, you are allowed to tell him that after careful thought, you feel betrayed and you are ending your friendship with him. This isn't an overreaction. you are entitled to feel however you feel. Insulting or screaming or retaliating would be an overreaction.
As a doll collector myself (unfortunately having to sell most of my collection, but that’s not the point here), I really appreciate you standing up for your older daughter. Thank you. And it’s a good idea to introduce the sister to collecting.
