Based on price alone the test should have been the fiero formula vs the regular MR2. The mr2 was 150 percent the price of the fiero for gosh sakes. Huge difference in price

Very sad to say this, because Pontiac Fiero has coming to an bitter end in the early 1990s. After seven and a half years, Pontiac Fiero was one of America's cult classic cars were ever shown on the road and it'll always be remembered. Because at Pontiac, we build excitement!

I rue the day I misplaced a multi-page brochure which I had that detailed the Fiero's construction. There was an illustration that showed how the space-frame of the vehicle was placed in a massive jig so that attachment points for the body panels were drilled in one step. This step also determined that all of the dimension were within tolerance and whether or not shims would have to be added to assure that panels would be laid-on flush relative to each other. Had Pontiac got a green light from GM to give these cars the engines Pontiac planned (V8 Turbo, and V6), 3rd gen Trans Am and Fiero would have instantly become all time classics and a real step forward. Considering Buick V6 at that time had 300 HP, Fiero could have had just as much, and Trans Am could have had 400 HP. By the 80ies standars it would put Fiero and Trans Am into supercar territory. Pontiac truly had had a vision and technology good enough to annihilate Chevrolet Corvette, and that's what GM didn't like.

I want to buy 1 but am wondering, as we all know we have heard of the fires because of rods. Can I ask owners more about this please? Any real experience than what I read on Wikipedia. Thank you.

I saw my very first Pontiac Fiero in October 1983 for the first time ever a cherry red one and my 10 year old kid jaw dropped to the floor. But then I saw how much of a dog the Fieros were. Looked dangged nice for the time. I do admit.

Forgot to point out Pontiac no-rust no-ding body built on space frame. Very innovative.

Great job putting the MotorWeek Fiero videos all together! Wow didn’t realize they killed it so quickly at the end! Did they ever get that new electro-hydraulic steering rack operational and installed? What a shame - the platform proved itself at the end. Did aftermarket ever do a small bolt-on supercharger for the V6? That could’ve been pumping 250hp and absolutely killed the MR2 for the same net price. 🏁

Wow, I had an '85 GT and you could do anything in that car and there was never even a hint at spin or being twitchy. I could literally turn 90 degrees, doing 60mph, just yank the wheel hard, and the car would just go where I pointed it, at worst it would skip sideways until the tires got traction again. Now the guy that had it before me had lowered the car, so perhaps he did more to the suspension than I thought, because my experience was absolutely nothing like what they show here.

I had an '85 GT and I'm shocked by those performance numbers, that they're so low. Maybe that's why the guy I bought it from cut off the entire exhaust system, including that pesky catalytic converter and mufflers and just did straight pipes to baffles. I had an automatic as well and would think the 0-60 was closer to 8.0 flat, but it's hard to tell since the nut also lower the car, and when you're that close to the ground the car felt faster than it was. But I do know I'd race early 80s Mustangs and early 70s muscle cars and it would be neck and neck, so it certainly faster than than the numbers they got. Anywho it was the most fun to drive car I've ever owned, and I've owned a bunch of fancy and expensive sports car throughout my life.

decent accelerations for old cars, in those days 6.5 0-60 was very fast... still brisk even today

i dont see any of these on the road anymore...ive got a 25 yr old 94 probe gt and These are rare, the fieros are extinct in my area... the probe would eat it for lunch anyway
