Veterans In Communities Battlefield Tour 2024

Members of Veterans In Communities undertook a First and Second World War Battlefield tour in September 2024.
We took 11 VIC members on a four day tour covering some of the D-Day beaches and battle sites in Normandy. We finished off at the Last Post at Menin Gate in Belgium where we paraded our standard and laid a wreath. We also laid wreaths at the Normandy Memorial, Bayeux War Cemetery and at Thiepval. The highlight of the tour was the Last Post at Menin Gate.
This was our first and hopefully it will be an annual event that our veteran members can get involved in. This short video is a selection of some of the pictures that our members took. For more information on the work VIC do can be found on our website www.veteransincommunities.org

Veterans In Communities entered our Willy's jeep into this years Accrington Soapbox Challenge on Saturday 24th August. We made a few adjustments to our entry from some lessons learnt in 2022. The VIC Choir performed at the Acccrington Stanley FC Armed Forces Day event at the Stanley Sports Hub on the 14th July 2024. They sang (Is this the way to) Amarillo. Always a good one to get the right atmosphere and people joining in.

These are a few moments in 2014 that our members were involved in. Veterans In Communities was only formed at the end of 2012, and we were gifted our Centre at the end of 2013. Our art group was selected as our members have used art to help with their transition to Civilian life. Accrington Soap box Challenge 2022

On the 27th August. VIC entered a soapbox into the annual event, our soapbox was made by our veterans at the VIC Centre in Haslingden. We also helped with the Accrington Army Cadet entry, unfortunately we didn't make the top ten as we had a technical issue at the end.

On Friday 30th September we held our 10 year celebration evening at Burnley FC, well attended by around 100 members, volunteers, guests, supporters, partner organisations and sponsors. A thoroughly good night by all who could attend in the current financial climate.
