Masterclass! We don't come across such music very often...! I'm glad I did!! And the way he started it slowly!! Makes me want to learn the fiddle!
@@MrSamkots ha ha thank you, good sir! I’ll be doing a lot more on this channel in the coming months, so if you haven’t, please feel free to like and subscribe :-)
@@errogiemusic that's great!!
Absolutely amazing ❤🎉 miss my Aunt so so much ❤xxx Forever grateful Adam ❤❤
She was one of a kind.
Thanks Adam...Such a sublime tune, still makes my heart sing ..
Aw that’s so kind of you to say so…! Thank you 😁
awesome! Thank you :)
You are most welcome, Rosalie.
Absolutely beatuiful! Scottish fiddle is always so beatuiful to hear
Thank you…!

Nice to see you play last weekend at Skye Live

what is the name of this tune?
I’m going to call it ‘The New Auld Alliance’

Glad you like it!

I want to know what’s on the small telly on the end of the fiddle? 😊
Ha ha that’s my wee Korg tuner. I have it there all the time as it helps me to train my brain to play more accurately. I’ve always struggled with tuning so anything like this helps. Do you play fiddle?
@@errogiemusic As a beginner of three years it's actually reassuring to hear that tuning is something that someone of your stature still works on. It's not something I have to bother with as a guitarist, but on the fiddle it's frustrating to say the least - intonation and bow shake are my nemeses
@@scotsmanovertheborder6024 I only have space for one thing at a time in my mind.
sounds familiar😊
I would love to know what tune it sounds like to you? Can you help with that?
Difficulty in blending the A part reel with a B part Middle East/Klezmer vibe, perhaps needing a bridge between , or even separating them into 2 different tunes? Definitely worth developing, and appreciate the candour of the process.😊
Thanks, Michael. It is a bit of a shock ha ha
Will 100% check out your Patreon, didn't know you were doing that! I play fiddle and accordion and have composed a few tunes about 10 years ago, more French bal folk, but the neo folk scene in France/Belgium loves the kind of tunes you produce, so I'm interested as well :)
Just launched it today!
Would love any feedback on what works and doesn’t work :-)
I’ve just started doing some terrible double stopping, so will give this a try tonight if the kids go to bed early enough! Thank you for these videos!
My pleasure! Would love to know if this helps or not.
Towards the end, the sound changed. I don’t know if it was just by brain tuning into it more, but I started to hear each sound that makes up the note
That’s really interesting. I find I notice more things like that the more I focus on one thing - in any aspect of learning. That’s why I find it helpful to do one thing for ages.
I’m in seven minutes in and I think the rest of my day will be in G. I think it’s a great idea, think my wife would wrap the fiddle around my head of I attempted this while she’s home though!
Yes!
I go to your class adam
Hi adam
Hello Gavin!
Being ok with not being good at something is definitely a big problem for me, so this was a good reminder of that as well!
It’s something I have to constantly remind myself of too! Glad this helped a bit :-)
Ideas deserving of further development from this very engaging exchange between Simon and yourself;business models, solo or band, education in situ and online, age groups , levels of ability and much more. Most enjoyable with the promise of more to come.
Thanks for your typically thought provoking response, Michael 🙏
Thanks for this to you both. Loved it.
A pleasure!
Aw, these harmonies on The Battle of Waterloo! 😁
😊😊😊
Sgoinneil!
‘s e do bheatha! This is Scottish Gaelic, for anyone feeling confused and means “don’t mention it”. “Sgoinneal” means “brilliant”.
Well that was very good and don't the two of you look so smart 🙅🏼
Looks can be deceptive ha ha
👍👍👍 Enjoyed that.
Aw nice one!
Gotta play that Melbourne tune! Good at all the speeds.
It’s an absolute beast, eh!

🌷Thanks for a great session , Adam. Serendipity to find this video. A brilliant antidote to a dreich Ayrshire day. I’m looking forward to more from your channel.🌷
Aw nice one, Marjorie! That means a lot. Dreich is such the perfect word eh? 🤣
Entertaining and informative, great show. Love the “Melbourne” duet to finish 🎻🎻
Thanks, Michael!
Also thank you for the excellent question suggestion for Ross.
Can't wait to get practising this tomorrow! Such reassuring instruction too. Many thanks, Adam.
My pleasure!
Excellent. You touched on 'lovin it'... I think this positivity and having the ability to smile at our musical incapacities is key to improvement. Letting our brain defrag is always good. Oh, for the record, I think a bit of chat keeps things personable in a 'I want it yesterday' world. ;))
Thanks again for your feedback, Kevin. I worry about being too cheesy sometimes ha ha but I also mean what I say. I think we have to find love in what we do. It’s the only way for me, anyway.
Matur suksma😊
You are very welcome.
The thing that really kicked up my ability to play double stops under control was actually spending lots of time doing son filé exercises, just playing a single open string with the bow moving as slowly and consistently as possible. For whatever reason after a month or two at that the double stops were easy. By the way, your video quality is set quite low, meaning we can't enjoy your smiling face in high definition.
Thank you for the feedback - I need all the pointers I can get! I’ll look into the video quality. I’ve not heard of son filé so will look that up. I’m a big fan of playing one note for ages as well. Don’t know if you saw my video on that? :-)
My AE was pretty dire... and then you mentioned green tea. Help! I like the way you play through the practice with us and I feel more confident as a result of that.
@@roisinniloirgneain815 thank you! Good to get feedback :-)
@@roisinniloirgneain815 www.patreon.com/adamfiddle?
Please forgive me linking to my Patreon. Appallingly shameless!
Maintaining even pressure on slow up and down full bows, almost a relief to change angle for double stops. This is going to improve my overall bow control. Thank You .
My pleasure!
Thanks Adam, I especially liked the ‘being ok’ with not being able to do it
Thanks for the feedback, Kate! I really feel that this is missing from a lot of education in general but is certainly right at the core of at least my own attempts to learn new skills.
Attention seeker destined for a successful TH-cam career.👶
Ha ha which one are you referring to?
@@errogiemusic The difficult one.
There was a spike in viewers retention, according to analytics - at the moment I stopped playing LOL
Keep the videos coming, Adam... these are helping building tone... and confidence. Thank you
Aw thanks again, Heather! I shall! New videos out each Saturday.
Thank you Adam.I started learning the fiddle three years ago. Something I've always wanted to do. I'm in my sixties. I'm learning by the SUZUKI method which is all classical which I love, but i love the Scottish tunes I grew up with more. Anyway, i'm on Suzuki book 4 and the double stops are killing me. I have felt so stupid, which is an alien feeling for me as learning anything has come so naturally all my life... except the violin, which is a challenge! With your short video, I am thinking i am on the way to mastering double stops. Thank you.
Heather, I can’t over-emphasise how important your feedback is to me. I am trying to suss out what kind of videos to make by working out who I can help and how I can do so. I’m going to keep going with the double stopping thing for a bit! Please, any feedback back at all regarding how I can be helpful - don’t hesitate to let me know! Adam 🎻
Spooky, youtube is listening to my practice! This year I am spending much of my time on bow and bowing, and keeping a journal. I have been doing almost exactly as your vid, slow bow, open strings and swapping pairs. Been doing about 20 mins each session for two weeks and it is improving very slowly. Like everything fiddle, its never a quick fix. Great vid, thank you! ;))
Ha ha Gawd imagine if TH-cam was actually listening to us scrape away 🤣🤣🤣🤣
That’s really interesting to hear that you have been working in this same way. I also really appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback. If you have any suggestions for videos, I’d love to hear them :-) 🎻
@@errogiemusic Thanks for the reply, I am not sure I am qualified to suggest anything really. I am 66yrs old next month, and a lefty. lol Yes, I have a proper lefty violin. Been playing about 10yrs but only 2 of those 'seriously'. Fallen in love with the damn thing. I have been playing guitar 50yrs (by ear) and the violin has grounded me. One thing I don't see so often is HOW and WHAT to practice effectively for beginners/intermediate mature players. I am about grade 4 abrsm and have no interest in exams, but do want to be at least a capable amateur. Very eclectic tastes but tend to lean on trad folk/Irish, although love all things music. I am also learning to read which I am finding hard, maybe all those years by ear or I'm just naturally dim! lol I play violin in a band and an ensemble that leans classical and love it. lol
Kevin, thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts. You are perfectly qualified to answer this as I am trying to accommodate the needs of people in your position.
I am thinking of aiming to help beginner / intermediate level players, so that it very helpful. Any other thoughts are much appreciated.

masih jadi masalah bagiku, apalag saat memainkan senar 5 , begitu susah menemukan fifth di senar C & G
Slipped into a habit of using brute force via extra weight on the bow to remove the angle of adjacent strings. Maybe get away with it on lively jigs and reels , but get found out on airs and other quieter tunes. Will now retrain following your guide and stop enforcing mistakes by repetition.
“We are what we repeatedly do.”
Thanks for the feedback, Michael.
Abbreviated version certainly works on “Mary Leaps In” with the sustained bass notes adding a great vibe.
Ha ha no way 😁
By coincidence, the wonderful Anton Petrov uploaded a video yesterday relevant to sound within our cells! Not just the effect of standing near a muckle bass speaker or within a transformer room, but the vibrations produced ( from breast cells in the research) It could explain why the key A is known as the happy key, be it at 440 or 432 Hz.
Very interesting! Have you a link?
