    Really informative video. Hotels are really good value as well in Danang. Couldn't help chuckling over the dog meat/thit cho. Yes it's available mainly in the north, rural areas and back streets of cities. If you see a place advertising Thit Cho you know it's dog meat. It's becoming less common especially with young people. Locals love to pull tourists legs by telling them that local restaurants are serving it. Much like us Aussies like to convince tourists that drop bears are real and will drop down from trees and attack them. The truth is it's perfectly safe to eat in local eateries with the little chairs as well as street food.

    Love your honest discription of life in Canada. And now in Da Nang. Most young couples in the Usa, also work long hours, eating simply at home to afford their bills. I traveled the globe, off and on, 40 years, helping people speak english.. Its easy to bond with wonderful people from different cultures by helping them. It feels wonderful when parents can dramatically improve their lives in better careers thru becoming fluent in a second language.

      Thank you for the comment! When we set out to start a TH-cam channel, one thing I really wanted to incorporate into it was, anytime we gave a review on something I wanted to give people the unfiltered review that TH-cam is lacking. I wanted to give the no B-S version of the reality of doing these things and going to these new places so future travellers don't get a false sense of the reality from all the clickbait traps out there.

      Thank you for the wonderful comment!! I really appreciate that! $7.00 for a good data plan is crazy right!? We could barely believe it when we first saw the price. We also had an E-Sim before and it's way more expensive. It is nice to have for being in transit so you have a working phone as soon as you land in a new country. But if you're planning to stay in one place for an extended period of time like we are, then it's definitely worth looking into a local SIM card. As for the dog meat, I don't know how they pitch it to foreigners, But we will be staying far away from it! haha (There will be lots more Vietnam videos to come!)

    William is a very handsome man! You have the right attitude. As a fellow Canadian who spent years as an expat, I want to share that you are on the right track. Travel is the best gift you can give each other. Canada could be better, but it did give you a foundation. Every country is struggling. The rich will get richer regardless of who is running the country. Our choices of leadership could be better. Don't let yourself get tribal. Cynicism is like an infection, so don't let it spread. Take care of your physical and mental health. The way to win a fight overseas is to avoid getting in one. Please don't take unnecessary risks. That includes your fellow expats. I am sure you have run across a few characters. If your spyder senses are tingling, trust them. Predators running from their past lives are looking for their next victim. Be cautious. Finally, it is ok to have a bad day. Be gentle with yourself. I am rooting for you. Enjoy the adventure and cherish each other. will be hiking rinjani in a month, this is perfect thank you! did you see water sources along the way apart from the lake? considering buying a water filter to purify water instead of bringing extra bottles

    • @expatescapeofficial
      @expatescapeofficial 29 วันที่ผ่านมา

      That's great, I'm glad it helped! I don't remember seeing any running water or pools along the way when we hiked it. It was also very hot and dry when we did it back in July/August, so anything that may have had water previously was likely dried up at that time. But in a month that could be a different story if they are having rain regularly. I opted to bring the extra bottles instead of a purifier as a guarantee to have enough water in the event we didn't find anything and I was very glad I did. Bringing a purifier is a great lightweight idea in case you find some water along the way, but I would still bring at least 1 extra 1.5L bottle for each day of hiking, on the basis that your guide provides 3 litres per day. Hope this helps! Enjoy the hike, It's hard but so worth it!

      Absolutely, Thats the priority. But if definitely helps if you commit to it entirely and sell literally everything. Then your bills become very very little. Basically just your travel/medical insurance, and your travel costs to leave. Everything else like cell phone plans, rent, groceries are all very affordable once you're in country. Living for 1000-1500/month for 1 person is definitely doable here, maybe even cheaper if you have a spouse to split the rent and scooter rental with. It's a very stressful leap to take, but it could be the best one you ever made. It surely was for us.

    Guys, you will have a very rude awakening. You don't seem to understand the difference between a holiday trip and living somewhere. Also making a living somewhere. The medical support situation in Vietnam alone would let me rethink about this plan. You need a 'western' employer with a good salary, so you can live on your standards. If you need to get a 'local' job, you're fucked. I absolutely agree with your opinion about the treacherous governments in western countries. Everywhere you look, only oportunisitc parasites who think they can rob you as they please. Fun fact - most of these 'politicians' are on the payroll of Blackrock and/or Vanguard. So they basically supporting financial driven facism and selling out the citizens. By the way - the worst traffic in the world is in south america. It's ultra aggressive and avoiding EVERY single rule of traffic seems to be a folks sport there. I've traveled the world, but Buenos Aires was by far the most intense and dangerous traffic I've seen so far. SEA is chaotic on the first sight, but makes sense if you flow with it. Africa could get really intense, too, but South America is worse in my opinion.

      We aren’t staying in Vietnam for the rest of our lives, it’s quite tricky to get a permanent residency here which isn’t our intention. So if you want to call it a prolonged vacation then yes we will call it that if you want to get technical. Our initial plan was to back pack all of south east Asia. We were only planning on staying here for 3 months but loved it here so we are staying for longer. We aren’t looking for jobs here or at any point giving up our Canadian citizenship. We are in a position to travel and we’ve set ourselves up to be able to do it. I work online so I am able to work from anywhere and I’m able to pay for a much more comfortable living than in our home town making the same amount. We never know what the future has in store for any of us so we decided to get out and see the world. I don’t consider this to be a rude awakening. Staying in Canada and continuing to live there is also going to lead us to a rude awakening, so no mater what we do… we will be rudely awakened 😅

      Thats the Canadian health care system for you. Wait a year or more to have an appointment, and when that day finally comes they just write you a prescription for another drug to counter act the last drug they prescribed. These days we look towards traditional Chinese medicine over western medicine every time. They actually look for the root of peoples problems and the try to fix them as opposed too pushing big Pharma down your throat for a bigger pay check when all they're doing is putting a temporary bandaid over the problem rather then trying to fix the cause of it. And getting Who knows how many people unintentionally hooked on their pills in the process. I can't blame you there, if anyone asked my honest opinion about signing the line Nowa days, I would have to steer them away from it. I have nothing but respect for all my brothers and sisters still serving, they are just following orders and doing their jobs. It's the orders coming down from the corrupt at the top thats the problem.

      @@expatescapeofficial Phone bill in Canada is $100 because you're getting f*cked over by little hat people who own Bell and Rogers.

    Your actually very lucky as Canadians to have Passports that allow you Expat options. Your also lucky to have spending power as Canadians living in S.E. Asia. The majority of people in SEA don't have allot of money or Passports that allow them travel options. Not saying I don't agree with everything your saying (One day I might be right beside you). Very Best!!

      Yes, we are lucky to have some options with our passport for sure. Any peaceful countries should have the same options in my opinion. Unfortunately thats not usually the case👎 We don't have alot of money either, we just barely got by living in Canada which is why we had to pack up and leave before it was too late. Canada is heading downhill more and more everyday, it's sad to see our country going to sh*t. Thanks for the comment!
