The Perfect Road Johnny Warner
United Kingdom
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 8 ก.พ. 2016
Johnny shares his love of meeting people and sharing his passions. Driving classic cars, travel and beer.
It's really just about enjoying life and being passionate about a few things.
Friends, hobbies and adventure, plus cobbling together the odd vid.
Along with the odd beer of course.
50 plus years a type one diabetic and just getting on with life.
Dreaming of sponsorship to hit the road in a classic car to do a few hundred miles more... a million more views and subscribers would help, but in the meantime enjoying the gig budget style.

Jim and Johnny come out of the cold October mountains and head into the Californian desert one hoping to see a Road Runner the other a Rattle Snake, no joy of course. They do however, enjoy some off roading and Roys Cafe then drive into the night to reach Needles.

This is going to be cool!
@@paulchristopherriley7503 Thanks Paul 👍
@@johnnywarnerperfectroad66 If while driving back up Route 66 you can take the road to Ouray Colorado it would make for great video. except not now in the winter! Cheers.
man I really like your road trips. Amd i really like your music. So. suggetions. Play the orig nal route 66 theme song with your compliation. also there is John coltrane music where he has music that is great traveling and you can edit it in to your british drivings. Talk soon. stay cool like yall already are.
@@paulchristopherriley7503 Thanks Paul, I'm a bit limited on what music I can add as most is copyright and thus as I make at my own expense and don't get paid anything as I only have 400 subscribers (and many thanks to those good folk), I'd be well out of pocket. If you know any good copyright free tracks in the TH-cam library, let me know and I'll use. I have another video coming out tomorrow as I am just finishing off now. If I pull my finger out I might get a second related one out on Saturday or Sunday. Rancho Cucamonga our next stop. My Dad would have loved your choice by the way, he was a Sax player, I have his old 1947 Conn Mk10 Naked Lady . Many thanks for your comments Kind regards Johnny 👍
@@johnnywarnerperfectroad66 i thought music over fifty years old was free. Sorry buddy. I'll play those tunes while watching yall anyway. Cheers.
Those are fun to drive. I had a '62 Midget back in 1985. I was in my twenties then and paid $300 for it. One problem only, it had no brakes. Now I have restored a 1968 Minimatic. Took me 7 years a little bit at a time. The BMC A-Series engine is great!
Sounds Excellent NetWit20, The good old Mk1 MG midget, funny as I too bought one in 81, a non runner, took a lot of work but had it on the road August 1982, ran it as my everyday for years. Never was able to part with the toy and thus still drive it. Like you I love the old BMC A series engines, I'm a big fan of them. Enjoy your Mini and many thanks for your comments. All the best Johnny 👍
Apart from your Midget and a Bug: no classics! How sad...
@@jmsjms296 Yes I have to say I was amazed that in 5000 miles on road we saw so few classic cars driving on the roads, plenty of rusting non runners. In the next one we should meet up with a guy in another MG Midget, who drove 3 hours to meet us.
@@johnnywarnerperfectroad66 Here in Switzerland we regularly/daily come across cars aged from 10-40 years... And they're running. Good thing!
you'r taking me places I'v never been!
@@paulchristopherriley7503 Thanks Paul it was certainly lots of places I'd never been. I'd not ever been to the States before. With hindsight I wish we had spent more time in LA and the beach area sightseeing. Just got a short time at the pier. But as we drove from Kentucky up to Chicago and then tried to find as much original Rt66 as we could going to Santa Monica, then driving back to Missouri and then back to Kentucky, I think I got to see lots. Thing I enjoyed most was the folk we met were so friendly and warm.

Now this is the way to start a road trip video with a classic car. Show the car! LOL, a Midget and a Bugeye. The funny part about them racing on the highway is that no one but them know they are racing. LOL Definitely a cool way to make a trip.
@@chrispat7579 Much appreciated Chris wish we'd meet you on the trip 👍
@@johnnywarnerperfectroad66 - I had an H-reg Mini 1000 which was a blast. I could run it hard and yet most around never noticed. Now a friend had a C-reg Mini that they had dropped a 1300 in. He took me on the A45 one night over 100. Nothing like a hundred mile an hour shoebox.
So what was the car? 14:55 - FINALLY! When you take off in a special car, you HAVE to show it early in the video. I'd figured it was a Midget fairly soon, but wasn't sure at the beginning. Looks like you had fun.
@@chrispat7579 Hi Chris it is a standard Mk3 Midget with 1275cc A series engine 1973 and is Jim's car he lives just outside Hopkinsville in Kentucky. BTW, Willys-Overland went out of business the year before you got your Jeep, but multiple entities have owned to the brand marque since then. It’s actually still alive and owned by an Italian company now! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Willys
Thanks for that Jim said his was a 45/46 haven't checked the link you put in yet, but thanks for that. So I am guessing they went out of business as soon as the war ended in 1945 a bit like Sopworth over here did at the end of the First World War, suddenly lots of stock and no market.

you can't beat this Fantastic, the Good old days even in War
No Muslims anywhere , fantastic
Who
5 million of them fought on the Allied side in WW2, and 1 and a half million died so I guess they have as much right to be there as you.
Really is there any need , for that observation! Why can’t you just enjoy the spectacle without being divisive.
Well that might be the case in WW1 or 2. but they making a mess of every country now
Difference is the Muslims back then were completely different to the ones we have now And thats the Elephant in the room , They were proud to be part of the British empire Nowadays sadly they just about loathe everything that's British Anyway great video Me and my dad spent best part of 40 years. Doing Roofing flat Roofing, tile and slate roofing building works on alot of the old run down barns We worked in HOLT. , IN SHERINGHAM , IN CROMER. and around the odd surrounding villages, You get to know all the rich people and poor people I say. Poor people because you realise how poor we all are to some of those land owners in North Norfolk How the locals were annoyed about rich folk buying all the property up And leaving nothing left for the locals and even if property came available the rich had pushed the price of property up so high Well you get the picture, I remember doing a big property up in the centre of HOLT THIS IS going back 20 years Personally I don't have a problem about pigment of skin Anyway I was on the scaffolding and I noticed all the main high street. Cars. And people on the footpaths had all because stationary Thinking what's going on There i see a black postman And I was truly shocked to see most of HOLT stopped in there tracks Here's the twist, 3 days later A big burly trans with a heavy morning shadow wearing a pretty dress walking through busy HOLT No one battered one eyelid It always makes me laugh 😆 Sadly my dad passed away just before Christmas last year and he was ee well known for FLAT ROOFING in NORTH NORFOLK Please everyone give a thumbs up great video
Who wouldn't give their right arm to live in britain in the 40s?! We'd won the war, Liberated Europe, We were the healthiest our English Brethren had EVER been, And the politicians had some honour still. British culture was valued.
Air raids, rationing, fear of invasion, going to school to find a classmate was missing due to last nights raid, being evacuated to live with strange people in a place you didn't know...golden age😅 My Dad as a young teenager had to cycle into the Lincolnshire fens to deliver War Office telegrams to parents and wives. Don't think I'd swap my Sixties childhood for that personally. I'm sure lots of good things too And you are right about politicians generally, not sure of the likes of Oswald Mosley
I love your Fordson, I was saying to my friend when we were admiring the vehicles parked on that street, that the one I mosted desired was the Fordson. I like that you drive it about so much, big beliver in vevehicles being driven and enjoyed. Not many Dad's can say they've taken their family out in a tractor 😂👍... And I'm pretty certain I saw you last year on the seafront with trailer and family... or was that just wishful thinking after leaving the Lobster pub 🤔
Thanks for including "Lord Fordson" again. Perhaps next year we'll actually get to chat. 👍
The people in the 1940's wasted their time - looking at the state of things now

@@elymental You're the girl to do it, too many classic car owners, simply don't have the trust or confidence in these old work horses. The way you threw your Midget with the K series engine around that track, you definitely have what it takes.... If you can only do a bit of the Rt Then Arizona has to be my favourite, California near AZ excellent, Pan handle of Texas, Lovely bits on whole of route, but for a long good run Arizona hard to beat. Spring or Autumn best times for Brit tolerable weather. Jim and me close to our best by dates, you've plenty of years in your tank... So do it but do it in a classic as you won't be likely to see another actually being driven: Plenty on drive ways and parked.

Hi Steve, I did mean to contact you and haven't forgotten, but not had much time due to other things. Do you have a regular club night anywhere as would like to met other like minded locals. I hadn't planned to go to Stody
I liked the slight differences of opinion as to the correct route - as you say, it gives us a chance to see other cars. And the 1098 sounds fine!

Can we have a National "Dave" day ?? .. Brian drives cars .. I can ride motorcycles! .. Brilliant vid by the way! Love it!
National Dave Day is the 3rd Wednesday of every month in the year preceeding Halleys Comet. I've marked it down as important to film...Hope that helps 👍
I bought a 1960 Bugeye Sprite in 1970, and a Mk III Sprite in about 74. Australian delivered so rust free, but came with all the A Series, SU and Lucas foibles. I have now gone to the dark side with my current model MX5, and sadly, don't miss the Sprites one bit. Call me shallow.😊
Each to their own Timothy and obviously the Frogeye 🐸 couldn't have been too disappointing or you wouldn't have purchased the Mk3 Midget.... MX5 certainly a fun car with aspects of the Midget, but modern comfort and reliability. Hopefully out in My Midget today with a smile on my face, loving every minute of it as I have for a long time... My only issue getting out is becoming harder 😅👍 Have a great day Johnny

Ah, those engine and gearbox sounds! My Mum owned a 1957 MM1000. I've owned a 1955 Series II convertible since 1986, plus a 1950 "Low Light" - both powered by 1098 Sprite engines. I've been told that local school kids call the Low Light (in Roman Green) the "little green rice bubble". I'll happily own that! Great little cars, much loved over here in Australia as they are in the UK.
Love your story Simon and both cars have my engine of choice, I love the 1098cc A series. Two great cars you have there. Am I right in thinking some Moggy's were built in Australia 🤔
We had a Morris Minor in early 60s, then a Morris 1000 Traveller. I think that's the name. Wooden frame. Rusty floor and green mould on frame. Beige/brown paintwork. Around 1967/68. It took us five kids and parents on many journeys around Scotland before it finally got beyond economic patching up. A Datsun Sunny was the next family car. It lasted nearly a decade with minimal work to it.
Hi Jimmy, My first car was a Morris Traveller, like yours it had green moss growing in the rear window gutters, due to the drainage holes being clogged up. Spent my summer resurrecting it, that was back in 77, in 2017 I got myself another, which I am in the process of fully restoring at the minute. Once I've done I plan some long trips and never restoring another car 😅👍
@@johnnywarnerperfectroad66 that sounds like a fun project. My dad's car had holes in the floor through which we could see the road passing under us. Patches welded on over the final few years of it's life kept falling off.
Hi there!! I have just subscribed to your channel...I remember my Grandma's old Morris Miner so well...I used to love going out in it with her at the helm!! Very good memories..so I was thrilled to see your video..be great perhaps one day to own my own Morris Miner...on my bucket list..😁😁...also loved the tour and the open roads with your delightful Morris!!
Sounds like when I get mine back on the road Simon (about a year, as I am doing a lot on it, so having to use the Midget at the moment, which I also love), if you live in the UK we need to take it for a spin, do a nostalgia video. My first car was a Moggy Traveller in 1977, it had been my Uncles, I sold it and bought the MG Midget that I still have. However, I did like the Moggy and had great adventures in it, so in 2017 I purchased another Traveller, drove it from Stoke to Norwich on the day I picked it up, took it up to tye Highlands of Scotland the following Summer, the Ardennes in 2019 year, then in lockdown decided to tart it up, mistake as I took the timber frame off and made a big job of it. But once back on the road it will be adventure time. Hopefully will do Rt66 Slovakia in it, plus many shorter trips👍. A lottery win and I could do it next month 🤣👍 Many thanks for your Subscription very much appreciated 👍
If you need replacement glass for that windscreen and are anywhere near Rochester, NY, i have one for you. I have a few old windscreens from cars my father took apart.
