Balatro Review - Mobile Gaming Done Right?
Balatro review time! This little roguelite poker game took the indie world by storm, and now I’m here to check out if it’s actually worth your time. Is Balatro better on PC, mobile, console, or Switch? So, if you’re curious about this weirdly fun mashup of poker and roguelike chaos, or just wondering if Balatro deserves the hype it’s been getting, stick around! Let’s dive into what makes this game tick, its strengths, its quirks, and whether it really lives up to the “Game of the Year” buzz.

Thank you, for this honest review. Those videos from the hyped community, are rare these days. Have you played "Ghost of Tsushima"? Everyone said "Why it didn´t became the goty? It´s better than "Last of Us 2" It´s the Assassins Creed of my dreams!" No, it´s not! For certain reasons. You probably understand me, even if you like "Ghost of Tsushima" very much. And this only one example.
I haven't played it yet but definitely plan on it eventually!
excellent content
Cheers! Really appreciate that
Go play gamma S2 is never going to live up to your expectations
It doesn't have to, this is just a discussion, I enjoyed it regardless
I bought the original stalker in 2007 and the gameplay was more flawed and buggy than this. The shooting and gunplay is superb in S2. Hopefully the devs continue to iron out the issues. My only real disappointment is the bloodsuckers being quite easy, less scary and far more common than I remember them being.
Stealth is possible. You just can never let them face your direction. You can even use bolts to detract them.
I 100% agree with everything you said. I highly doubt any of this will be addressed by the developers and think it will be down to the moders to say the day....as usual.
"An Astartes Space Marine" ah yes, ATM machine.
I love the immersion of this gameplay review. More customization and mechanics need to be implemented to keep players engaged in replay ability. Maybe a few maps that are open to play a few more varied gameplay. I would also like to see some execution kills that aren’t the same. But varied to more than one. Even if they just added some for each character class. Thanks for the hard work and time to share your thoughts.
can you add the mods do you need vortex for example
I didn't use vortex though you probably can if you want. All mods are listed in the description
Hi, in my opinion when a need to express anything about a game arises, it helps to encourage players to contact the games makers as well and the more effective the lobbying, the bethe chance of getting ideas across to the people who can physically change the game, or use a mod that will have the same result. Having written this, your commentary is very pertinent because for example the cans of drink to get across the sleepy field near the beginning, or each tiny prods with a knife at a new tin don't add sufficient food to last very long. Have subscribed to your worthy site. Regards JB
Thanks appreciate that JB! Maybe I'll try sending it to them but it is just my opinion, they wouldn't do anything unless there's enough people who agree, and there's still plenty who don't
If you did enjoy this I'd really appreciate letting me know with a like, as this took a hell of a long time to make and want to know if it was worth it and whether I should continue to make content like this. Let me know what you think and consider subscribing to stick around for more like it. Thanks! P.S. Sorry for any confusion, reuploaded with revised intro because there were some issues with it.
Basically you're complaining that S2 is not Gamma. Stalker trilogy was (is) very similar to the newest stalker in regards of survival mechanics - they're there to give an abstraction of survival without turning it into a wasteland survival simulator. In the first Stalker games I was selling every food item except bread. Good income source. Did the same in Stalker 2, felt like good old stalker.
Never played old stalkers or gamma, purely talking about the kind of experience stalker 2 feels like it should be based off how it presents itself
Agree , another wasted potential
You're right, unfortunately. The constant getting back on your feet and then deciding whether to reload, stop a bleeding OR restore health before the next physical attack makes mutant fights a bit tedious. In that regard, Fallout 4 had me more on edge. Good news is that GSC are very willing to listen. Maybe they will take some suggestions to heart.
"Inventory space is precious" = me running around with 4 flytraps equipped so I can carry ALL THE LOOT. When I reach the trader, I glow like an LED lightbulb, maximising all the Nuclear Radiation Detector in the area while smelling like an alcohol factory.
Sounds like you're doing right, stalker
It's not a post apocalyptic survival sim. The outside world exists, and is fine. And the original games were not hardcore sim games either. I think the perception of these games has been twisted by the years of mods that released after the original trilogy came out.
Never played the originals or their mods, purely talking about the kind of game stalker 2 feels like as a new player
Yes! Pls fix the stealth game, GSC! And i dont want to have to eat every 3 or 4 minutes as well.
Stalker 2 is half-baked in almost every aspect. -Beautiful graphics, BUT its not optimized. -Good gunplay animation and sound, BUT the enemies you shoot at are not really fun to fight (dumb ai, aimbot, spawn near you, jittery movement animation, bullet sponge, ....) -Hunger and thirst mechanic, BUT you are guaranteed to never not have food/drink on you. (you always have TOO MUCH medkits, bandage and other shit in your inventory) -Huge map, BUT its 90% empty of content. (Inbetween missions you will be sprinting for 2-3 kilometers directly to your next quest marker with absolutely NOTHING happening). Big Respect to the devs for making this game during an actual invasion, BUT this ain't it.
I have 36 sausages in my inventory.
Almost ready for Straya day grill then mate 🇦🇺🍖
stalker 2 is a waste of time rn. maybe its good in one or two years with a sh*tton of mods. just play gamma.
agree
your criticisms come from the fact that you are expecting S2 to play like a survival modded stalker game. S2 is pretty much a 1:1 sequel to the original unmodded games with all its mechanics being the same. Wait for some Gamma type mods on S2 then.
Never played any other stalker, I'm just talking about the kind of gameplay that would seem natural given its themes and atmosphere
THE GAme was made easy otherwise no one would buy it
You literally summed up all the points I wanted to make
I hate how much games are being politicized now. Though it's interesting that, despite how political pundits blame corporatism for mediocre modern games, almost all of this year's best were big-budget AAA productions. Even though so many popular indies exist now, they were thoroughly overshadowed this year. So much for corporations ruining gaming, which is a claim made only by people who will go on and on about certain examples of failed AAA games, because those match with their pre-existing political strawman arguments (e.g. Concord), while ignoring all the wildly popular AAA titles this year.
Im dying to play the latest update of Wukong..
Still haven't played it yet, definitely on my list tho
Amazing video aside, your sense of humour made me chuckle more times than I expected. Subbed.
Thanks! Makes my day to hear, and especially glad I'm landing flat 😅
There's a lot of great games that hit this year, although I haven't had the chance to play them all. Maybe this list would be different if I had, maybe it wouldn't. These are just my favourites of the games I have actually played. Let me know what yours were!
Wanna try some Zone Sportsmanship Challenges? 4:12 That would also give the player more of an incentive to consider eating mutant meat like you can in Anomaly. 5:47 Did they finally make the backup CQC sight (trashy as it is) on top of the G36's scope functional, or are they still doing things the same way they've been doing them since 2007? Never mind that functional combination sights have existed in mods since at least as far back as 2010, and generally speaking, we zoners want that kind of tactical flexibility. 6:08 You should play Anomaly (with or w/o GAMMA). It's got that sort of thing. 7:44 That compass reminds me of the one from Borderlands 1 (except it's at the top). 9:20 Have you played Stalcraft? 12:49 Can you aim grenade launchers? By that, I mean actually aim them like they're 'sposed ta be aimed? Like, with the GP-25, it should have a functional quadrant sight. With the M-203, even if it lacks a flip-up leaf sight, you should at least be able to aim using the front sight or muzzle of the host rifle. Can you at least use the Groza's flip-up ladder sight?
The best feeling on survival I had on this game was while on the lesser zone, I kept doing mission after mission, exploring place after place without repairing or upgrading my equipment, it was a constant struggle, I used every resource I found in my way to keep going, I was constantly killing enemies and using their equipment until it broke again and I had to replace it with the stuff of another body, fights had to be strategic so I mostly used the PTM with a silencer so I could strike human enemies before they saw me. The literal best example of this was on the last main mission on the lesser zone when you go to find solder, I went with the spark route and sneaked into a bunker and killed solder, when I came out I was in the sphere, I died 50 times there trying to find my way out while enemies constantly respawned. I tried to sneak through the roof, no luck there was no path. I tried to go back the same way but no luck, I don’t know if the door was intended to be locked or if it was a bug but I was stuck there, I took alternative paths but the place was swarming with enemies, it was like that until I said “fuck it, we ball” and went guns blazing, killing as many as I could before I got detected, I had ran out of ammo so I used my knife, my weapons broke so I constantly swapped them with the ones the enemies dropped, I even used the bolts to make sound to attract enemies so I could sneak on them with my knife. Eventually I ran out of food and healing too but luckily I found a place with like 5 sausages, 3 cans of food and 2 medkits, that was all the healing I had available, when I got detected I was constantly dishing out headshots to use as little ammo as I could. Weapons with 0% condition, no ammo, no healing and armour broken but I got out, the only thing I had to my name was a sausage, I ran back to zalissya while constantly saving as to not lose what I strived so much for lmao. I’ve never struggled with coupons though, it’s just that I refused to use them while on the lesser zone so I got out as a rich man, I’ve never had the same experience ever since because enemies are so easy when you are not screaming at the screen because your weapon got stuck or broke again while in the middle of a fight and most mutants are so easy to run through so they feel useless.
Your first hours sounds about like what I want from the whole game
@@Crit-Eye-Gaming the whole game would be much longer, it took me 20 hours to get out of the lesser zone, though I do have to admit it makes fights so much more fun. I would’ve never used bolts or the knife for combat nor would I have switched weapons with near-broken ones from bodies if I hadn’t been forced to do so by the situation. It’s really sad that you have to actively restrict yourself from using technicians or buying from the shops to get this type of fun, I’ll check out the previous stalker titles since I’ve heard they’re pretty hard, sadly stalker 2 definitely isn’t hard, even on veteran.
yeah it aint perfect, none of the first releases ar, mods will fix that... the true heros of the zone
Clenched Sphincter is a must. 🤣
Currently running a 3060 and 16gb of RAM. Will the performance mods make it playable for me?
Possibly, probably. Mine is 3070 and it's fine for the most part, with the huge update today I'd say it'll be good now. I'd say get game pass to try it first
@Crit-Eye-Gaming that's good to know. I am currently at 'ad Astra' playing on xbox. Going to play on PC from the beginning because there is just a few QOL mods that would make life easier. Mainly infinite stamina, increased sensitivity and loot quantity appropriation.
Absolutely 100% agree with you on the food and sleep thing. I absolutely love this game, bro exploring prypiat’s abandoned hotels and hospitals were some of my most immersive gaming experiences ever. Imagine though I had to go in there because I had to find food or med kits because I would die of hunger, like so what DayZ does. It would make “zone runs” so much more exciting and interesting but also necessary
Yes gimme some of that thrill pls!
You have described exactly how I feel about the game too.
Glad to hear I'm not alone!
In fact - I decided to stop playing and wait for improvements to a-life and general balance. I have about 40 hours and I think I am about 2/3s the way through the story.
I feel like the food and sleep issue is tied to the time scale. Many have issues with the short day length in this game, and from what I've seen GSC has no intention of changing it. That being said, this is not a survival game at all, and never been outside mods.
i loved Stalker 2, played it for 140 hours. Then started Stalker Gamma and its the real deal: truly inmersive and truly fine-tuned hardcore survival experience, definitely a better game with the 508 mods running on top of a 2007 game. I'm sure Stalker 2 can get there if modders figure up how to fix everything with the unreal engine... maybe we can run it at 60+ fps with computers from 2035
can't have campfires cause it would spawn mosnters and enemies all the time to your camp when youre trying to eat :DDD
It's a game for casuals
Stalker 2 is bad.
I disagree with the points in the "food problem", this mechanic works this way in the other 3 games. They know the average player does not want to bother with those, however they leave all the base mechanics in place for modders. Sincerely? that's the best option, there is no way they can make it as hardcore as you want without turning off the average player/streamer. The modders did an excelent job in gamma, they will do an excelent job in stalker 2. But just adding to my point i have friends (and stalker streamer i follow) that won't touch gamma because of these mechanics, but happily play mods like gunslinger.
Stalker isn't a survival game. Like, at all
Idk if rng us weird or what, but I'm on med difficulty, and I'm definitely not swimming in medkits/food ever...i find just enough to keep me going but I also spend most of my time out in the wild scavving and fighting constantly and get fucked up a lot so idk lol only issues i really have is it seems to be nighttime like 80% of my playtime, enemies just seem to spawn right on me out of fuckin nowhere when noone is around, and they have fuckin eagle eye vision at all times and can see me somehow from 800yds with my light off and crouched😂
I dont have a mod that scribbles out my death count ;)
Hah, yah me neither! 😅
80 hours in, one of my biggest annoyances is being shot through cover and the aimbot level of shooting from AI. Multiple times I will get shot multiple times draining my health, retreat behind a cement wall or sturdy cover, and then still take multiple hits as I’m trying to heal or treat a bleed. The game is amazing but needs some tweaks to make it better.
I'm a bit confused by all these takes seeming to conflate the true "stalker experience" with Anomaly, GAMMA, and EFP. The original games were not at all like those mods and stalker 2 is just like the originals.
Idk what those are I never played any of the old Stalkers, I'm just talking purely about how 2 felt
I saw someone working on a concept for a mod that would allow you to switch your artifact detectors (excluding the Veles detector) to an anomaly detector that would detect anomalies like artifacts are. The mod would remove the base kit anomaly detector that you have and integrate a switch in to all of the artifact detectors to switch between artifacts and anomalies. You can't have both activated at the same time, so it adds a trade-off, and it deactivates while running so that way traveling is more dangerous. I personally think that this is a more interesting approach to making anomalies more dangerous while still adding a fun alternative mechanic instead of outright removing one.
Sounds interesting!
In the third game, there was actually an experimental Veles detector that could detect artifacts AND anomalies at the same time called the Svarog. I imagine it will return to this game in a dlc or update, as you help create them, so it makes no sense that more were never made.
When I first heard you mention about the abundance of food and the eating mechanic I thought “ not another whiner “ but as the video went on and you explained about it being scarce and eating twice a day it fully made sense. I’d have / would love this in the game. It would make players check every building you come across to see if there’s one bit of bread or a sausage even finding just one would be a sense of accomplishment ( I don’t go into every building ). Plus the Stealth is so broken it’s absurd as it limits how you take on a mission and complete it. The one problem with this game like any other is ( and this ain’t aimed at you just in general ) you can’t please everyone. Great video and just subscribed.
Thanks much appreciate that! And yeah it's a tricky topic because different people are after different things but I'm glad I was able to get my points across well enough 😄
your the whiner LOL no ones reading all that
