Devastation at the Lake
Hi everyone, it's been a while...
My last video was in September and now we're into the new year, I thought it was time for another.
This time I'm heading up to Lake Vyrnwy to see what devastation has been caused by Storm Darrah back in December. I'd heard it was pretty bad so I thought I'd take a look.

Bagging Summits in The Berwyns
มุมมอง 504 หลายเดือนก่อน
Hello everyone! Apologies this isn't the camp that I hinted at in my last video, but the weather has been terrible! This time we're off into the mountains to bag some summits in the Berwyn mountain range! I set my trailcam in the woods on the way up but after a week and a half we only manages to get a squirrel and a robin... I'll look at better placement next time! Still they were nice to see!
Trying Out Car Camping

I am having no end of problems with Corel at the moment. TH-cam and it don't get on and after 18mins or so you get noticeable juddering and now it squashes all my text! Anyway, something new this week. I try out Car Camping! Burger and chips and a very rainy night!

Welcome to this weeks video! I'm out on the local canal with my Voodoo Braag, Biking from Llanymynech to Newtown (possibly). Join me as we journey along this historic route! (I am also really behind on my Conqueror Challenge, so I need some milage!) 'The Monty' or 'Montgomery Canal' has been restored over the years and is managed mainly by volunteers. It's a somewhat strange choice in name as i...
Rhiwargor Waterfall
มุมมอง 625 หลายเดือนก่อน
Hello again and welcome to another video! This week, I thought I'd show you Rhiwargor Waterfall. A waterfall, I feel, lives somewaht in the shadow of the spectacular Pistyll Rhaeadr and is often overlooked. This is, nevertheless, an amazing natural beauty in its own right. Located at the north most end on Lake Vyrnwy, this waterfall is well worth a visit! Even in the rain!
Glyndwr's Way Part 12 - Meifod to Welshpool

Hello everybody and welcome to the final video of the series. We head from Mefiod to Welshpool on the last leg of the Glyndwr Way. Mostly agricultural land mixed with country lanes, woodland and even a golf course! This series has been fun but challenging. Both the walking and the logistics! 135 miles! Thank you for watching and check out my other video's if you have enjoyed!
Glyndwr's Way Part 11 - Pont Llogel to Meifod
มุมมอง 735 หลายเดือนก่อน
I'm back on the Glyndwr's Way and today is the penultimate day! Today's journey takes us from the wooded village of Pont Llogel to Meifod. We follow the River Vyrnwy to begin with and take in the lovely quiet woodland which slowly gives way to rural meadows and country lanes. After that we head over Allt Dolanog and have some nice views of the valley before descending into the village of Dolano...

Hi everyone! Day 2 of my holiday on the South Ceredigion coast. Off for an explore today and see what sights can be found! Things don't go to plan. And the flies. I've never seen so many! Looks like 18 mins is the limit if I don't want that video skipping that you see towards the end. Any suggestions greatly welcomed!

That little farm at 20:28 is ours. Lovely little walkm
Fantastic video! I crave this kind of experience, cooking steaks outdoors like this. Thank you for this and I'm subbing now
Thanks for the sub!
I’m staying near the start point of this video section at Easter. Thank you for this. ❤
Interesting as I plan on doing this trail but some strange misinformation. Eg Buzzards bigger than red kites
You are correct. I always thought buzzards were larger than kites but it seems it is the other way around! You learn something new every day!
Selective info . Talks about train to catch in Machynlleth then next day on track to Welshpool via llanbrynmair and says he’ll stay at the wynnstay which is actually in Machynlleth. Shame doesn’t show much of towns Llanidloes or Machynlleth. No interaction with the local people. He went all up and down around llyn clywedog which is a reservoir not a lake .
I did the Mach to Llanbrynmair a different day. The pub in Llanbrynmair is also called the Wynnstay though more accurately it is the Wynnstay Arms. There are many pubs in wales called the Wynnstay. It is a popular name. Lake/reservoirs is a body of water and now I think you’re just being pedantic. Also in the towns I’m aware that some people don’t like being filmed and I don’t tend to film when other people are around.
This channel deserves way more subs keep up the great content
Cheers pal! Always nice to hear! I hope to get more bike content out in the new year!
is it a good bike
I think it’s a brilliant bike! But I haven’t had anything to compare it to..
@@strapsadventures could you make like a long term review type of thing showing how good it is and showing how its hold up?
Congrats. The conqueror challenge looks so cool I wanna try it
Alright mandingo, you could spice these camps up by drinking half a bottle of whiskey each time.
Bolting in the middle of the night is always an option I like to keep open.
is this the voodoo braag?
Yes it is
Ah right
@strapsadventures is that straight out the box or did you upgrade anything? Just bought 1 today
I just changed the handle bar grips and pedals for some fetching purple nukeproof ones! Other than taking the reflectors off, it’s as it was when I bought it
Once again I've found your videos to be entertaining and informative in equal measure. Many thanks. :)
Cool Stuff , Me Enjoying Ur Humour !+) Lookin For A Bragg Review Though , I'll Be Scoopin One Up Soon ... Best Wishes Sir !+)
How you getting on with the bragg? thinking of buying one tomorrow, hows the gearing on fast roads with it only having one cog on the front?also have you had any issues with it since youve had it?cheers 👍great video
Sorry I’m a bit late replying and you may or may not have decided to buy… it’s faster than my old bike which was a cheap Apollo I bought when I was at uni. I haven’t got much else to compare it to though. I’d say it can go pretty quick but the tyres it comes with are quite sticky on the tarmac. I don’t think I’ve been much over 45kph
@@strapsadventures i was going to buy it yesterday but didn't end up going I know they've got plenty in stock, just want to make sure I'm making the right decision..it was between the bragg and the bizango but the bizango is a tad out my price range.thanks for replying 👍
My friend has the Bazingo. He really likes it but he’s a little more into the down hill off road stuff. He has since gone electric but he rated it. Like you say, it’s a bit pricey and the braag is just fine. Regard to issues. Aside from a puncture once, it hasn’t had any problems!
Hope you have a great week and some amazing walks along the coast . Lovely weather for this walk which is unusual for you !! hope the rain holds off .
Awesome I will have to do this ride… Thanks for the video
I recommend it! Beautiful scenery and it’s flat which is something of a novelty in this part of wales!
@@strapsadventures thanks buddy will for sure visit once we get some uk sun!
Are you using tubeless?
I’m not currently but it is something I want to look into
Really enjoyed that - thanks! A (new) mate tried to entice me into an "everything on your back" hike on the same route - but I'm old and not as fit as I was... but I'll get there. Great vid, great commentary, and I will watch the whole series - and for more than vicarious reasons!
Halo 2 music lands perfectly
The ramparts look pretty impressive. Re-the water - it's known that rivers change their courses. Perhaps the river closer 2,000 years ago. I went to Twyn Y Gaer hill fort in the Black Mountains just the other day and walked through the entrance. I was stoked. Well, thanks for sharing. Mark
Good point about rivers changing course. I hadn’t thought of that
@@strapsadventures Yeah, they speak about it on 'Time Team.'
Happy New Year .Really enjoyed your walk . I share your views about blocked rights of way. If signs were left in place then walkers wouldn’t be wandering where they shouldn’t. We were in Llangynog last year and found a lot of paths had disappeared or were blocked . We are going to try again this year though. Look forward to your next adventure
I have wanted to do this for ages...have been visiting Vrynwy fir years and wondered if the canoe hire place was still going. What level of experience are they expecting?
You could go as a complete novice. I went on my own but I had a friend with me on a paddle board. I’d never been alone in the canoe and had only seen the j stroke in videos. My technique needed work but there were no dramas. They’re very good. They tell you where you can go and give you all the equipment you need including a whistle. I strongly suggest giving it a try. Perhaps with another person to start off with until you gain the confidence to go alone.
@strapsadventures Good news....as soon as the weather improves I'll be up there! Used to stay at the hotel but I fancy a bit of camping these days. Any recommendations?
Hi there. I'm actually on my second run through of this series of videos and am again finding them informative and highly enjoyable. I often find myself saying this to likeminded content creators, but it's absolutely criminal that your videos haven't received thousands of views! I'm planning on undertaking the hike from Knighton to Machynlleth this February, so wanted to ask if wild camping spots were consistently evident on the trail. Many thanks, Adam.
Blame the algorithm haha! Seriously though, thank you. I have been struggling a bit lately on TH-cam and it’s nice to be appreciated. I didn’t actually wild camp on my run but I’d say that there are quite a few spots up on the tops. The only issue I think would be finding somewhere sheltered. Feb is definitely a good time when it comes to cows and sheep as they’re mostly in the sheds! Hopefully you have some good weather! Let me know how you get on!
@@strapsadventures Thank you for your response; i meant every word. Yes, I walked St Cuthbert's Way last Feb and encountered virtually no livestock. I'll be sure to let you know how it goes. Keep going, I'll watch for sure.
Great views , thankyou for taking us along in the mountains with you
Glad you enjoyed! It felt great to get out
nice video of the monty
This is a good video that made me buy one, and l am loving riding it. Thanks mate, this video encouraged me to buy one, keep up the good work
Do you know if there is any difference inbetween the brag and horde
I have no experience with the horde sorry. I do like my braag though!
Im thinking of getting that blue tent or a dome one. Cant decide lol. Just me and my Labrador dog. Is it any good? Good space? waterproof? Nice vid by the way, lovely scenery🙂
Yeah it is waterproof. It’s a little tricky to put up because it’s outer first but that may be because I’m used to inner first tents. Pretty good value for money too
cool
Well done Daf 😊
The best part about flying is landing.
Hi ,I recently done Wolverhampton to Llangollen via the Shropshire union canal and Llangollen canal on my old Diamondback bike , great route but hard going in places.. how you finding the Braag ? I'm looking to get something new and have been looking at the braag.
Hi! I’m so sorry for not getting back to your comment sooner but I’ve recently got back from holiday to chaos all around! Nice one! I live canal cycling though I haven’t really done any aside from this one. The Braag really is an excellent bike and in my opinion you can’t get better for the price. I love it!
@@strapsadventures yes I am looking to get something new without spending silly amounts of money , think I will go take a look at the braag again , hope the hols was a good one 👍
Just ordered this bike
Never where black clothing on a hot day it absorbs the heat wear lighter colour clothing.
ps...some thick ferns between Llanbrynmair and Llangadfan, and a good cafe at the end, but it closes at 3pm.
Enjoying your adventures on this route. I'm walking it in day sections at the moment. I have used the Cicerone guide but divided the sections up a bit, especially when the days have been a bit hot. What a fine cafe that is at Llanbrynmair. Last Sunday I walked from Llanbrymair as far as Llangadfan. The problem was getting back to the start if you leave a car at Llangadfan. No buses between Llanbrynmair and Llangadfan, and no local taxi service. My wife came to the rescue; dropped me off, and then she had a day at the coast while I walked ! I'm off to walk the next section on Sunday but, as Baldrick would have put it, I have a "cunning plan ". From Llangadfan the route heads basically North to LLanwddyn before turning a dog leg on itself down to Pont Llogel. So I'm going to do a circular route, Llangadfan as far as Pont Llogel and then take the road and a few paths back to Llangadfan! It's about 13 miles I reckon, and will make the penultimate day a little shorter. Happy Days!!
Nice! That’s does sound like a good plan! I’m gunna have to have a think for the next section. Not sure when it will be…
From the beginning I can't wait to see the grave at the church😂
That is brilliant hiking with stunning scenary..You gave me motivation to go hiking like this..regards from Sabah Malaysia..
Thanks for your video .And yet again your explicit description of your hike. So sorry you have to finish on this section .I feel for you but don't let it stop you from getting back out on your hikes . I've been in your position many times where ive had to phone my wife to come and get me .And during them times I've hiked pennine way. coast to coast .West Highland way . Cleveland way Offas dyke . Shropshire way and more and yet I've had to come off my hikes with blisters and exhaustion .And phone for my wife to come and get me . You were right by saying hiking should be not in summer months .And i think you were exhausted because of the heat . But keep your chin up .And dont take to long to get out there again Best wishes . Billy
Love your videos and your explicit audio description on each of your days hike . I've watched all of your videos you've completed on Glyndwrs way and every one has been delightful to watch . Looking forward to your next hike on Glyndwrs way . William. Ps .watch was the make of your watch ??
Awesome, thank you! Im actually heading back out next week to do the next two days. Very much looking forward to it. The watch is a series 7 Apple Watch.
Haha, you really do not sound like you are enjoying that bumpy ride. I am struggling to decide on buying the Bragg or the Voodoo Bizango. I am new to biking since being a teenager 30 years ago. I would have purchased the Bragg today, but Halfords is out of stock; now debating spending an additional £180 for the Bizango. Have you any experience with the other bike I mention? Would much appreciate any advice. Unlikely, I will be riding like you, more a case of the off-road on the flat on bike paths around reservoirs etc.
I haven’t had any experience with the Bazingo. My friend tell me the Braag is more than I need for the things I am doing with it but I believe the Bazingo is the next tier up. Hope that helps, let me know which you decide!
Your forks didn't seem to be absorbing much impact. Just wondering if you'd left the lock outs on? Thanks for the presentation though. Seems a good bike for six hundred pounds?
I may very well have done as I’d only had the bike back then! Yeah I’d say so. For that sort of budget it’s going to be hard to beat without entering a higher price bracket. I’ve done a a fair few miles on it now. I rate it
Nice Trip brother.... still wait for another experience and new adventure 💪👍
Glad I came across the chanel bro
Now then can you tell me what that village was at the start. I try to find but couldn't. Hiked over Ysgwd Ffordd a few year back whilst hiking the river Ithon from source to confluence. If interested the video is called: 3 Day River Backpack. River Ithon to River Wye. Wild Camping Nordisk Telemark 1. It's a good one/worth watching. Well, loved the adventure coming down off the hill - bags of atmosphere coming into Abbey Cwm Hir. That valley is special - beautifully wooded. Hey, cracking place for an event. It's got me thinking. All the best. Mark
We started this day off in Llanbadarn Fynydd on this day. Technically it’s part two of day two but we wanted a bit of a shorter leg on this occasion. Thanks Mark, I’ll be sure to check it out! Yes it’s a lovely little place nestled away in the hills. Will have to head back again in the future.
@@strapsadventures I thought it might have been. You made it sound deep and as Welsh as the hills. It was a good short leg - I know the area. Fort sure worth exploring more. A pleasure to watch and comment. It's in two parts - please do let us know what you think. Cheers buddy.
No problem! Did I also see an ascent on Plynlymon? I had the option of spending a day in Dylife and doing a circular but I was keen to get on with the trail. I’ll check that out too!
@@strapsadventures Hey, nice one. Yeah, I've a few videos up on Pumlumon. That's worth exploring to. No doubt see you on it in the future. Peace.
Love it just got that same tent. Really enjoyed your video . Where was it you stayed it looks beautiful?
I’m lucky enough to have access to some private farm land in mid wales. Let me know how you get on with the tent. The poles failed on mine a few trips later. Fixed with some tape for now 😂
@@strapsadventures oh god I don't like the sound of the poles failing kinda puts me off. But will be watching your vids thanks for sharing 😉
Good video, what bike is that and would you recommend it?
It’s the voodoo braag. Probably better equipped to handle this route than I am! I really like it but I’m not sure how it compares to similar bikes as I haven’t tried them, if that makes sense?
Well done, enjoyed all these. I'm setting off from Knighton to Machynlleth today over 5 days, did the northern part last year ....
Thanks! It’s a good leg and definitely the better direction to be going in! I saw! Hopefully you won’t run into any angry land owners this time!
Hello I am considering doing this trail and am quite enjoying your videos. May I ask what month you did this in? I am coming over from Canada in August and choosing between Glyndwr Way and the North Downs Way. Thank you
This video was in April. I’ve been in august, June and March. It very much depends on your luck really with the weather! It does seem to rain a lot here in wales!
Is the top part of the frame round? Looking at getting one and putting baby seat on front
On the cross bar? It’s not quite round and it is narrower than the bar underneath
Back for part 2 bro. I enjoyed this stormy thing on the hills. Plenty of wind for the turbines and for blowing the cobwebs out. I like trying to find a break spot when it's inclement. Not so bad with the bird display. Well, good going. All the best. Mark
Thansk Mark, glad you’re enjoying the series so far. I hope to get the walk finished this year
@@strapsadventures A pleasure bro. Yeah, enjoying the series a lot. Hey, maybe hook up for a section. Take care.
