Japanese Gardens to Heartbreak Hotels: Film Photo Drive
In this second episode of my Film Photo Drive series I drove from Ft. Lauderdale, FL up to Orlando, FL and made some stops along the way including a south Florida beach, the Morikami Japanese Gardens, and the Heartbreak Hotel. I explored around these new-to-me areas and took some photos!

Film Photo Drive: Bring a Friend

Got my first rolls of film back from The Darkroom

Was really nervous about screwing up the development up of these photos so I sent them to The Darkroom and they DELIVERED! These photos are from my recent trip to California. All photos shot on a Canon Rebel 2000 on Kodak Portra 400. This is not an ad for them I was just so happy how they turned out I had to share.

I was invited to take pictures at this show in Jacksonville, FL at Underbelly on March 16, 2024. Gouge Away, Zeta, Drag Pattern, and Suntouch House all played. All photos taken with a Canon RP with either a 85mm 1.8 or 24mm 2.8 lens.
Love the pictures from the garden - so much interesting history about the park!
It really does have an interesting origin!

GOD WHAT A SHELF!
The first roll I ever shot, I bracketed every image, kept notes and 400 ISO worked best. Cinestill makes this from the Vision3 500T, claims the extra sensitivity is due to removal of remjet layer. Cinestill, however, makes all their film from Vision3 but keeps the ISO the same. Odd??? I like the look so much I'm thinking on bulk loading Vision3 500T and dealing with the remjet. Cinestill 800T is currently around $17, bulk loading will put me UNDER $5 per roll. The Vision3 daylight balanced film would be around $6 per roll. Great video, thanks.
Thanks for the kind words, I’m gonna have to try another roll out at 400iso! I wish I had the patience to bulk load, that’s the smart thing to do.
Did you use the internal light meter, or how did you meter?
I used a light meter app on my phone actually

If I'm picking, I like the composition of the 1st bridge shot juuuuuuust a lil more. Something about the lighting also makes the colors and shadow fun too. Anways can't wait to see ya Thursday!!

7:35 Kelley Brannon vanished into the night on July 15, 2020 after a fight with her boyfriend outside the Sunshine Inn. When I saw that motel I was like I’ve seen that in some unsolved murder episode.

The part of ellaville you were at by the bridge was actually whats left of a campground from 1920s. The actual town was about a hour hike through the woods. In the same direction as the town was the site of the sawmill. Not far from the old campground there are remnemnents of a 0-4-0 narrow gauge steam engine.
Oh! I might have to make my way back and try to find some of that!
Just watched this video on You Tube!!! I'm 77 yo & was born in that area (Starke/Bradford County) in 1947.. left in 1960 when my parents moved South to Hollywood.. I so loved your video.. with tears in my eyes.. remembering when my 5th grade class went to sing at the Stephen Foster Memorial Celebration one year🎉.. Visiting friends in Lake City.. yelling at you in the video to go over to the Keystone Heights Flea Market 🤣🤣🤣 Great Video I was last there 2019. Still in contact with "grade school friends🫶🏻.. town is not the same though after 64 years, Hollywood either. Look forward to more of your videos 👍🏻♥️

I know about "The Darkroom". They do good work. I learned how to develop film, then it got too expensive for me.
It is definitely not a cheap hobby. But the darkroom is relatively affordable which is nice

@@ISObsessions Yup, it's the Suwannee, not the Withlacoochee. Down the trail a bit there is another bridge in the middle of the woods that is grown over and has graffiti all on the underside. Interesting to see in the middle of the woods.
@@danielcluley870 oh that’s my mistake! You’re absolutely right, The withlacoochee is the other side of ellaville not that side.
@@ISObsessions Yup. Great area. If you are into it, I would recommend doing a Suwannee River Trip. They have dedicated River Camps that you can only get to by boat or hiking. The biggest Cypress tree is nearby the Holton Creek River Camp. Great opportunities for photos all along the river with limestone bluffs in spots.

Question about working with film: do you combine any digital post processing get get a desired result? Or is it more of a purist goal: improve your technique as much as possible with emulsion processing only?
its mostly trying to improve my on-camera/film technique. currently the only thing i am doing to the photos digitally is making sure they are straight.

the stairs are quite formidable but you can always just take your time! it's very worth it.
