This is a full tour of my simple and inexpensive 5x8 cargo trailer camper conversion DIY build. I've been building this micro camper over the last few months in order to do some off-grid camping and exploring this summer. No electrical. Not many comforts. Just a way to enjoy the great outdoors with my family. This tiny home is designed to sleep a family of 4, plus Kevin the Husky dog. Music: Ch...

    Curious of the dimensions of the bunk beds? Space between the bunks? Dimensions of the floor bed? I just bought a 5x8 trailer and this is exactly what I had in my head but didn't think there was enough space.

      I picked up a 6x12 cheap, had no plans but now thinking about camper conversion, maybe swapping for a smaller size. At any rate, if I do I'll probably camp more in winter than summer in N Ga.@@theDADgineer

    I watched this again, but it would not let me LIKE it again! You did a great job, especially keeping it simple! I tend to over-complicate things. Enjoy your time with the kids; they'll be grown before you know it.

      @@theDADgineer well, I don’t know how cool my ideas are. But I’ve seen several TH-camrs add on a collapsible table on the back door. That way it doesn’t interfere when you’re in bed. You could also put screen netting up on the back wall with the magnets that close you can pull it open when you want it open and have it closed for fabulous air ventilation then without the bugs. I’m looking for a cargo trailer for me. I want a small 5 x 8 also but I have balance issues so I need on 6’ high. Still looking. Have fun.

    • @theDADgineer
      @theDADgineer 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, love the idea for the bug net on the rear door. Having the ability to keep it open would certainly help in the hot weather. Best of luck in your search! There are lots of brands available in the 6ft height these days. Shorter was actually more difficult to find.

    I've been looking into a cargo trailer , but I've been looking at 5ft hide away beds that way you can still have a table in side

    • @theDADgineer
      @theDADgineer 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Great idea if you plan on spending more time inside the trailer other than sleeping. 5x8 is a bit right with a fixed bed. A fold up bed would free up a lot of space

    Well done !! Question: 1, you must have remove 1 steel stud for door and window, does it affect any structural integrity? 2, what's the brand of the trailer, it is hard to find 5x8 trailer clear garage door.

    • @theDADgineer
      @theDADgineer 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks! Yes, I had to cut a few studs. I cut out the 'middle' of the stud to clear the window, leaving the top and bottom of the stud still attached. Then I welded horizontal braces above and below the window. Welded to the cut stud, and welded to the studs on each side of the window. Same thing done on the door. Turned out very strong. 1" x 1" x 0.100" square tube works excellent for the horizontal braces. The brand/model is Cargomate blazer 5x8 With the arched roof. I believe the flat roof was around the same height too. There are a couple of other brands with lower height trailers, best to check out their spec sheets on the company website. Best of luck with your build!

    Exactly what I want to do for our first DIY family camper. So the 5x8 short version fits in your garage stock with no special order mods?

    • @theDADgineer
      @theDADgineer 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Awesome. Make sure you take a video of your build, I'd love to check it out. The cargomate blazer 5x8 is about 78" tall I believe (specs can be found on their website). So yeah, it fits in a standard height garage. My garage was a little shorter so i have to remove the roof vent cover which takes about 30 seconds
