Ultros Critique: The Art of Joining
Ultros is a very surprising game, and it's not afraid to keep secrets from the player. If you can forgive the lacklustre combat and make it past the halfway point, you'll be rewarded with one of the most complex and freeform game-wide puzzles I've ever experienced. This one comes highly recommended for any lovers of complex systems in games. What are you waiting for? Watch the video to find out why.

Sifu Critique: Age Is Just A Number
มุมมอง 9302 หลายเดือนก่อน
Sifu is a must-play for any fans of difficult action games, and it has a depth to its mechanics that easily places it among the highlights of the genre. The innovation that I find really compelling, however, is the clever way it motivates the player to repeat levels and strive for mastery, something I usually have no interest in doing. Intrigued? Well then, watch and find out. All game footage ...

There are plenty of things to like about Tears of the Kingdom, and the first few play sessions you have with the game can be really enjoyable. Resident Evil 4 Critique: Building on a Masterpiece

Resident Evil 4 is privileged to be on the very short list of 'Games That Changed Everything'™, so naturally Capcom had a lot riding on this remake. Red Dead Redemption 2 Critique: On The Frontier of Simulation

Red Dead Redemption 2 is a gigantic (and very long) game that inevitably tries to be several different things at once. The Callisto Protocol is a hugely disappointing experience that ends up being inferior in almost every way to the series it pays homage to. Unsighted is the first game I've played for a while that didn't outstay its welcome. After tears of the kingdom I’m not sure I have the patience to slog through another giant open world game. It’s a trend that needs to be improved and innovated on, or left behind. Open world games have become so similar and predictable I’m surprised the trend has lasted as long as it has. I’m hoping Metroid Prime 4 isn’t going to be some boring open world version of Metroid.

Totk should have been dlc one year after botw. Six years later and it’s the same exact game with more empty space, doing the same things you did in botw. I went in with an open mind too. I figured since they were reusing the map they would try hard to differentiate the sequel in as many ways as possible, but nope. It’s the same game again six years later and it was ten dollars more this time. There are some cool ideas, just not enough to carry an entire game. The non linear dungeons are absolutely boring, as are the shrines. Everything feels like either busy work with no reward, or things I already did in botw. When your asset /world/ everything-reusing sequel takes LONGER than the base game, you are doing something wrong, you are missing the point of doing an asset reusing sequel. Majoras Mask accomplished it perfectly. I think botw was selling well for so long they held off on the sequel, there is no way totk was in active development for six years and if it actually was they should be embarrassed. Zelda is one of my favorite series, I can appreciate what botw accomplished and the risks it took even if it’s not one of my favorit Zelda titles. Totk though, what risks did they take? It doesn’t add anything significant or do anything different. I hope they can move on now and learn from this mistake. Great job on the video too, I’ll definitely rewatch this one.

It's even more fundamental. The paraglider is genuinely the root of the problem. The fact that basically every method of traversal is made outdated by you finding some way of getting height and flying your way around everywhere is not good. "But muh freeeeeeeedom! It's open ended-" The reality of a puzzle being open ended means every puzzle has the exact same answer, because"it worked the first time, so if it works here I'm gonna use it." That is not fun. Freedom is bad. Constraints are good. Stop pretending like you want freedom, when what you really want is for the developers to get you to figure something else out instead of whatever you usually do. You can't have every option available to you and then be surprised by people happening to pick the methods they prefer.

It's a little too early for me to call GOTY, but Ultros is certainly the most innovative experience I've had this year so far. Regarding Hollow Knight, I think it's almost undeniable that it scores a 'good' rating in pretty much every area, which is more than most games can say - but for some players the added factor of charm and presentation pushes it even higher, which leads to people who aren't charmed by it seeing it as overrated. For the most part I didn’t feel like the timer discouraged me from exploring, just encouraged efficiency in my movement and combat. Sure it’s a trade off to spend limited time exploring the world and finding resources, but I figured it was worthwhile when the resources could help NPCs or give me better tools that would help me play faster. I thought of it as BotW where all the time you spend exploring and finding resources is an investment to prepare for the main game. Even if something wasn’t fully available with the tools I had, knowing it was there so I can choose to return for the reward later made it worthwhile. I even discovered the entrance to the crypts before I made the corrupted weapon, but I chose against finishing it due to time ticking. Of course, several people died on my initial play through and I found myself taking time away from an NPC in the caverns to survive, and Iris almost died before finding her workshop. It was far from a perfect ending, but bringing Iris to the end was made much sweeter because of it. Since my first play through, I also did a new game plus where I saved everyone and beat the reaper, and then later another fresh play through where I saved everyone and did all the side stuff. Next time I’ll have to crank up the challenge with the hardest difficulty and see if the heartbreak returns

I'm sorry but you're complaining a bit too much and that's only because you couldn't solve something that the game hints to you in an obvious manner. Also if you really wanted to avoid the stealth sections, you would've come up with an idea on how to do it (I didn't but I didn't think they were problematic). I don't know why you skipped the most important moment of the expansion (it's not a DLC) when you show the Prisoner the whole story from your point of view and the addition to the ending. You probably should open your mind because Outer Wilds 2 is not happening.

It is pretty funny how every time you mention a gunfight you just get increasingly frustrated. It seems to me that the open world was a substitute for the main story. I guess to you that is good, but I find that incredibly disappointing. The purpose of a game like Red Dead is to entice you into the story. When this story gets bogged down by constantly branching narratives, then you kind of lose sight of what the purpose of everything is. Forgive me if I extend too long in my explanation. I will give an example to demonstrate what I am trying to say. In Vampire the Masquerade, you start off as a fledgling that slowly becomes involved with the plots and schemes of other vampires. It really immerses you into this sick world. Because in this world, you are constantly trying to find out what is in the mind of elder vampires and newer vampires. An ugly yet beautiful tapestry of deceit, lies, and hatred. The game references the plan that you will inevitably play into. Along with vampires warning you to beware of playing into a vampire's plans. The purpose of this game is almost created out of your own decisions depending on the endings you play for. Most (some endings are actually bad lmao. _If you know you know_) of these endings are just as good as the other honestly. Keep in mind, this game was in serious dev-hell (and it shows. The last portion of the game is quite rushed). It is only brought to its full glory with the unofficial patch. When a lot of food is being cooked at the same time, you (as a dev) HAVE to know when to turn off the heat. Because if you leave it too long, everything will just end up burnt or cold, and you will feel like you wasted your time with everything. My point is that Vampire The Masquerade understood that it had to nail every plot thread into something cohesive (the most important part). The result is something spectacular that many will remember. It just seems to me (from this review and many others) that Red Dead 2 failed to do that. I played the first one, but I fail to remember most of the things because I was just 10 or 9 when I played it. I always had this problem with Rockstar games. They feel way too long to be invested in (keep in mind I played witcher 3, baldur's gate, planescape torment). To me, the greatest sin you could ever do to a good story is pad the ever living 5НIТ out of it.

Before release, the developers described Limbo as "Trial-and-Death". This doesn't invalidate your critique, as it's a matter of taste, but it is a deliberate design decision and not accidental. If you look back at Heart of Darkness, Heart of the Alien and Another World, the sheer variety of death of animations make up a substantial chunk of game content, so it makes sense that the developers would want you to see it. I think Inside and Limbo wanted to emulate that style of design.

Funny, I literally played for around 20 hours, and then got so bored I let my wife take over my game file. I spent probably 200 hours in BOTW, I didn’t have the time or interest to do that again. The new mechanics/enemies I mostly encountered in those first 20 hours. I casually joined back in to play here and there, but yeah I was just way too disappointed to give it my full attention. I’d love a simpler, more linear Zelda experience with excellent diverse dungeons and maybe a few of the fun ideas from here, but I’d be fine if they just started with a fresh new engine honestly. I know that’s probably not likely but I feel like they’ll be too inclined to continue reusing the same ideas if they continue using the same engine/assets.

I think it’s all about perspective I think Elden ring does what most open world games fail to do. I love that I can go get an amazing weapon right from beginning of game vs having to reach a certain level. True in dark souls too. I love to explore though and in still finding things i haven't seen, i enjoy the freedom though. Cool video with many interesting points. I like the aging system and the pseudo-roguelike elements in Sifu, though the martial arts -style doesn't quite grab me like many other action games. With regards to Bayonetta, I don't think it's important at all to learn all the different combos when starting out. I recommend mainly using Scarborough Fair and using a few core combos, for example PPPPK/PPPPP for damage, PPKP for the uppercut wicked weave, PPPKKK for the sweeping kicks if you want to trip enemies like Grace & Glory and Joys, and PPKKK for two strong wicked weaves. The core thing you should focus on during your first playthrough is learning how to Dodge Offset, which is easily the most important mechanic in the game (much more important than Witch Time), though the game barely even tells you it exists. With Dodge Offset you can dodge in the middle of a combo and continue it afterwards so you can perform the wicked weave at the end. You can Dodge Offset by holding the punch or kick button, then pressing dodge while still keeping the punch/kick button held. Yoshesque has very good videos called "Bayonetta: Dodge Offset Explained" as well as "Pure Platinum Explained" on her channel, which explain the core techniques and systems quite well. Dodge Offset is one of my favorite game mechanics in any game I know. I suggest going for Platinum chapter ranks when playing Bayonetta on normal and the higher difficulties. That way you do have to complete the Alfheim challenges and play well overall, but you can still make some mistakes and don't have to be absolutely perfect, which is required if you want a Pure Platinum chapter rank.

21:00 I actually disagree, while the timing is tighter than souls games rolling can actually really simplify boss attack moves. I was pretty hard walled on the Owl fight until I learned that rolling through his attacks actually stops the combo there leading to easy and near continuous counter slashes. Whereas if I had deflected he would continue his combo another 3+ hits each of which carried the risk of doing huge damage to me.

Its the only Fromsoft game I didn't jump into multiple replays right away with. I started a second run but the world crumbled a second time since I knew that 90% of the content didn't apply to me either because it didn't have something for my build, wasn't required, or wasn't interesting due to the copy paste element. I can only hope open world fatigue speeds up in the general population but it doesn't seem to be happening anytime soon. I really enjoyed this review and your Tears of the Kingdom one, and it validates well my feeling that these games would be much better as smaller more focused games.

12:40 Did you and I play the same game? It doesn't matter if you have unlimited shifts. You're losing money every single shift. If you're not getting the premium parts loaded in fast, you're losing money. If you mess up and blow up parts of the ship, you're losing money. If you get yourself killed and have to pay for another body, you lost the rest of your shift and you're losing double money. And yes, there is an O2 meter right there. Yes, it will deplete. Yes, I've been caught too focused on trying to take the ship apart and die trying to rush out of my area and zoom into the store to buy more O2. Multiple times. One time I went so fast with my tether to buy some more O2 that I died from impact damage rather than a lack of oxygen. I think Shipbreaker has the perfect balance of having the time to meticulously pick a ship apart and having a clock that forces you to optimize your time. It's a tough balance, and it could have gone at either extreme and just been not enjoyable at all. A single shift for one huge ship? No thanks!
