Can I paint over aluma hawk paint with another paint
I just acid etched my pontoons and was wondering if I still need to sand the aluminum before coating ?
Madagascar republic take over all rights reserved worldwide paints Sea hawk..
We used Seahawk AF33 on our sailboat 3-seasons ago here in the Great Lakes and we are really happy with it so far! We are putting another coat on after this season, but so far it has held up as good as any other brand I’ve used.
Does this also apply for a wood hull with fiberglass covering?
I have a old Checkmate boat that is worn down to the metal flake and right into the fiberglass cloth. I want to seal it and paint over it. What should I use?
Best bottom primer out there!
DYI-ers?????
Can we use gluvitt first on the rivets and seams AND then apply the tuff stuff 72 hours later?
I just got off the phone with seahawk. not sure if you still need answers but he said if you have a bunch of rivots leaking or a bunch of pin holes to seal those first. He did say if only a dozen or so pin holes that this tuff stuff would seal that and no additional sealer needed. But for application to Litely Sand it with 80-120 grit basically roughing up the surface to get a better adherence than start applying tuff stuff as described.
Can we use gluvitt first on the seams and rivets, and then apply the tuff stuff 72 hours later?
I just ordered the tuff stuff for my aluminum Jon boat. I got 2. half gallons. I don't have fancy mixers. Can I just vigorously stir it for five minutes or so with a wooden stick? And can I do the second coat 4 hours after the first? Then, can I apply the aluma hawk paint four hours after the second coat of primer?
I used this last year on my mc kee boat . I didn't have a paint shaker . Just stirred both really good with a drill . After first coat I did the thumb test around 2 hours later . It was then when I painted the second coat . After 4 hours I felt it was ready for the bottom paint . For that I used Sea hawk af33 .
And another one featuring AF-33 application th-cam.com/video/ANknapu0XZw/w-d-xo.html
Just an FYI: We decided on your paint and primer this year, the paint being AF-33 black over all the others. Here is our primering video, paint comes out next week. After we pull out of the water at the end of the season we can do a review. Plan on putting on one more coat this winter/offseason. So far so good. th-cam.com/video/qf89IY_BHrY/w-d-xo.html

Fantastic promotion...
Very informative both visually and descriptive. Thanks from a beginner. Will also look at other instructive videos.
Where to buy?
I dont know who chose the knapp on the roll but they suck
Since antifouling is toxic, why no one was wearing any protective gear?
Bc we painters secretly have a death wish
@@jeffreyreader3701 How long does it usually take for the wish to turn into a reality?
Would this work on a 87 Citation Thunder Craft boat?
Another sleazy sales slide. At least they were humble ..yuk yuk yuk ..
it inst that sleazy, their channel name is literally sea hawk paints.
show the finished product?
Exactly. I wouldn't want the black finish. Looks shitty
Sea Hawk is by far the best on the market.
Sea hawk is by far the best, I've painted my boats and under my dump trailer and inside my dump trailer with this shit. Its by far the best on the market
Should have Powder Coated it with Flame Spray, they wouldn't be back next year for a repaint.
Does Sea Hawk make antifouling paint for boats less than 22 meters that is better than the shit that small boat owners are forced to use?
grancito2 yes. Check sea hawk out.
They are not shit but you have to select the right one for your local area. Some work well and others not at all depending on the locality.
Boooooring
baad baaad boat
The name spelled backwards is Xida, pronounced Zeda... A good name for your next baby girl.
And she is a Yacht, not a boat.... please...
Saw her being built at the Pendennis shipyard in Falmouth. Must have been 1991. Gorgeous. I wish I had pockets that deep. I was looking after a much smaller 110 foot yacht there at the time.
He says in the first minute that the BOAT was built in 1984. But good job being cool on the internet though.
Nathan Weese , built in a year?
@@nathanweese3812 She was built in 1984, but in 1991 she underwent a major transformation at Pendennis, including cutting her hull and extending her length.
2:57 Leo!
Cuda 71 the tally ho leo right?!
Funny how recognizable he is, even for a split second, from the back, and 50 feet away. I wonder if Leo even knows how famous he is. :)
I was going to ask this. I´m also pretty sure its him.
Leo was chief bosun on Adix at one time so I’m sure it’s him there. th-cam.com/video/Ro1ahZy7mzg/w-d-xo.html
Sampson Boat Co led me here. I don't think its Leo, the guy is wearing a Newport Shipyard shirt.
Every boat has its own individual characteristics and this is no exception. Many comments below fail to see the spirit and soul of this beautiful boat and the romance that is created in all those who sail in it. Boating is not about the luxury one includes within the volume of the boat. The dynamics of the hull and the sails are invisible and normally silent, but behind dynamics and silence there is a beauty that few can behold let understand. The products of luxury is blinding some people to forget about the spirit and the soul of our surroundings. I find that modern super yachts are too cold and rather than creating a romantic feeling one creates a sexy feeling which is what most modern abode are meant to do. It is like many modern women, they cannot tell the difference between being elegant and being sexy. It is their misfortune not to appreciate the meaning of elegance and being sexy and the media propagate sex rather than elegance in a woman. The same with sea going craft, some project romance while other project a provocative situation, which one may understand. The loudness of products of luxury are blinding many people in retaining what is a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere. Polish, stainless steel and fibreglass do not always create what woods and ropes come up with. To each of us, his own taste, but there are many human conditions created through the fact that a person makes the wrong choice about his surroundings. Design to impress others is often different from what created a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere. The captain of this classical yacht is very lucky to have lived a life on such a yacht recognising her in all her beauty. Congratulations to the captain and owner of this boat, a gentleman's boat meant to create elegance and majesty.
beautiful boat, great crew, great shipyard and I would imagine excellent paint. Nice video to see such a cool boat out of the water, even if it is a bit of an infomercial.
Very nice! I'll take two! Do You accept credit cards?
TOXIC PAINT infomercial .... but nice boat
How often do you want to pull a boat out and scape it, if you don't want to apply anti-fouling, which is mostly copper?
Great video. That's a mind blown project with the start to finish time frame.
I've a 1979 Sears 11ft boat that I'm wanting to freshing up. The sun has really taken toll on the hull. Would this work for the hull in my situation? When I go to gel coat should it be ok to roll and brush on. Then I'd wet sand to obtain the desired finish. I have never done this type work before but I have a semi strong back,a decent brain and time. I'm a disabled police officer and I boat and repair boat motors to stay busy. I would greatly appreciate any tips for products that you can advise. This is a mostly fresh water boating application. As a medically retired police officer I'm on a budget so please keep me in mind when advising products to use. Thank you and your videos are VERY helpful!!!
It should. I would sand the hull, clean with acetone, then put on 3 or 4 coats of primer and sand everything smooth and to contour. After that, clean thehull withmore acetone, then begin applying gelcoat. I would rent a handheld paint sprayer from Home Depot ($33 a day where I am in Oregon) to apply the layers of gelcoat as it will help keep everything even and will take less time. You could still use a rolled and brush to apply it though. Then buff out to the finish you want and wax. If you are using a roller then I would sand and then buff out.
And thank you for your service.
DaebakMonkey how long do I allow for primer to dry before spraying gelcoat? What type of printer do you recommend I use? Just regular paint primer? How long after I apply to gelcoat do I wait to sand and then buff? I really appreciate you giving your time and knowledge. I'm in Waco Tx yes where the Branch Davidian shootout happened. Yes I was there. Thanks
Not a problem! I love helping people out. I personally wait about 4-6 hours but I am in the PNW where it is super humid. For you I would wait about 4 hours just to be extra sure. Try to get the coats of primer in one day as the next day can be spent on sanding and contouring but don't rush it, I have seen too many boats where someone rushed the primer and it bubbles up. For the gelcoat I would wait about 6-8 hours to be sure, and make sure to used non-waxed gelcoat for the first few layers, then on the final layer put wax in it. If you put wax in all the layers then the gelcoat will take a long time to cure, and by a long time I mean 4+ years. The wax creates a barrier which is what helps keep the gelcoat looking shiny after a season or two. I usually do 2 coats a day, one at 11:00 AM and one at 5:00 PM. Here is the link to a good primer: www.fisheriessupply.com/sea-hawk-paints-1277-barrier-coat-primer-1277-1 Here is the link to a good gelcoat: www.fisheriessupply.com/sea-hawk-paints-gel-coat These aren't top-of-the-line products, but if you wanted top-of-the-line products you would be looking at about $200+ a gallon.
DaebakMonkey gel coat to finish the hull? I’m confused, learning myself. I thought gel coat was just used to finish topside above water line. I thought you finished the hull with Antifouling Bottom paint and that is different than gel coat isn’t it?
Remowe paint from wood and metal. Cup brush Megaloder .
infomercial
would have a commercial for an antidepressant been better? ill take the sailboat video any day.
It would definitely have been better if it was more restoration video than infomercial.
...lets see..it's from a channel named "sea hawk paints"...what did you people expect?
Less "bla bla" and more quiet to enjoy the ship, thank you.
There is a little icon that actually turns the sound OFF !! You should try it to keep your blood pressure down.
