I've heard there have been problems with SIPS boards separating due to moisture and the structure becoming unsafe. There is a company in Florida that has SIPS pannels that use steel instead of OSB. While more expensive, these structures are incredibly strong, rot and mold proof, can't be water damaged, and will not burn.

It would be great if you would re-make the video to show the work completed without all the OSHA violations.

TOTAL CRAP. Presswood is used in the building materials. Total garbage that rots after a few years and is very weak

Michael, I can appreciate your thoughts here... I am a 41 year veteran of the building industry. Alot of developments in the construction technology field have not been proven long term. I have been designing a 7,000 SF house recently and the owner has been pushing me to research alternative construction systems, including SIP's. Back in the late 70's OSB came out. It was cheap and a lot of builders were using to help pad their bottom line. I went to a jobsite and got some scrap and took it home. I thru it in a bucket of water to see if it would delaminate. It did, the edges became swolen and basically unusable. If your observant, and you for the signs on the roof's of houses, you can see the houses where the OSB sheeting was not water proofed before it rained. I researched and found an OSB made by Louisianna Pacific. They used an exterior glue that did not delaminate or obsorb water. That's the only OSB I would allow on my job sites. To make a long story short, not all OSB's are the same. SIP panels are created in conditions where they are submitted to 37% more pressure in the making of the panels. The OSB itself is of a higher quality. Again, you would want to research what panel a particular company uses. Have them give you a sample of there panel and do the water test I performed. It will tell you within 48 hours. Some SIPS have Borate infused into the board, which is a deterent to bugs and termites, as an example. Others have OSB Panels which utilize an exterior glue. Overall, SIPs are 3X's as strong as a typical frame wall. In addition, if installed correctly, they can achieve a U-Factor rating that is very high. I'm planning on using SIPs on my next personal home construction.

    • @ormandhunter3546

Two top plates are installed in the downstairs SIP panels. The joist hangers are a Simpson StrongTie product. They are a hanger strap, nailing into the top plates.

It looks massively labour intensive and appears to require a lot of plant. Which nicely illustrates that SIPS is not economic for small projects of this scale.

Sir, I am a veteran of the building idustry, going on 41 years now. I can assure you, these are much less labor intensive that conventional framing.

Safety First. It's not an idle phrase. It's not an after-thought. Construction sites are much more dangerous than they should be. Every part of construction should be thought about, analyzed, planned for efficiency and safety. The old ways, the "traditional" ways have killed and injured too many people. SIPS are a relatively new construction innovation. Putting them together should be just as carefully organized.

Government wants you to build with low air flow to "save energy" then they make you install a CONSTANTLY running fan powered by ENERGY... btw, when you live in wood airflow is GOOD, it let's the wood DRY and not rot.... btw, I'm a carpenter that can fix the rotting house your MORONIC government made you build but I won't so don't bother asking...

There is an incredible difference between a furnace and an airtight home (that does have ventilation). To say a fan “uses energy” is missing the point entirely.

I have also posted about building with SIPS. In my opinion the best way is to reinforce the basic SIP structure with steel posts. I posted a video or two showing how that is done. (I do not sell nor represent SIPS, I just took the video.) :-D

I would think that the roof should be completed both side at a time working from back to front, doing it as they have they would have put uneven stresses on the building frame.

Any safety measures which are in place for the use of ladders is deserved. If it was me, I was ban them permanently. There are plenty other means of alternative access instead of using ladders, which kill hundreds of people globally each year. In this occasion, I would have assembled a light frame zip up aluminium tower for the guys to use. Cheap to hire and great to work from.

With todays CSCS cards and all the health and safety that goes with them two days more like and the need for scaffolding to do anything on the roof here in dear old England. Love the comments for its uses, and if you have a door at each end you have a shotgun shack very usefull for the mother in law, but my mother in law is lovely. David.
