Passing Through Security Security Officer: Good morning. Please have your ID and boarding pass ready. Passenger: Good morning. Here they are. Security Officer: Thank you. Please place all your carry-on items and personal belongings into a bin. Remember to take out any electronics and liquids. Passenger: Sure. Do I need to remove my shoes? Security Officer: Yes, please remove your shoes, belt, and any jackets or coats. Place them in the bin as well. Passenger: Okay, here are my shoes, laptop, and liquids bag. Security Officer: Thank you. Please walk through the metal detector. (Passenger walks through the metal detector) Security Officer: Please step to the side for a moment. We need to do a quick pat-down. Passenger: No problem. (Security officer performs a pat-down) Security Officer: All done. You’re clear to go. Have a safe flight. Passenger: Thank you! STEP 2: PASSING THROUGH SECURITY After checking in, go to the security checkpoint where your carry-on items and personal belongings are screened. Security Checkpoint This is the place where you and your carry-on items are checked before you can enter the boarding area. You need to go through the security checkpoint before you can go to your gate. Show your ID and boarding pass to the security officer. ID (Identification Document) This is an official document with your photo, like a passport or driver's license, used to prove who you are. Boarding Pass This is a ticket given by the airline that lets you get on the plane. Get a bin from the stack. Bin This is a plastic tray used at the security checkpoint to hold your personal items. What should you put in the bin? Electronics like laptops, tablets, and large cameras. Electronics can block the X-ray machine’s view. By taking them out, security officers can see everything better. Liquids: All liquids must be in a clear, quart-sized plastic bag. For example, beverages (water, soda, juice), toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, lotion, toothpaste, mouthwash, liquid soap, shaving cream, gel deodorants), cosmetics (liquid foundation, mascara, lip gloss, makeup removers, nail polish, and perfumes), other liquids (liquid food items like soup or yogurt, aerosols, gels, and pastes). Liquids can be used to make dangerous items, like explosives. By checking all liquids, security officers can make sure they are safe. The general rules are liquids must be in containers of 100 milliliters or less. All liquid containers must fit in one quart-sized, clear, resealable plastic bag. Belts and Jackets: Remove belts, jackets, and coats. Jackets, coats, and belts can hide items that security needs to check. By removing them, security officers can make sure you are not carrying anything dangerous. Metal Items: Keys, coins, watches, and anything else with metal. Metal items can set off the metal detector, causing an alarm. Some metal items could be dangerous, like knives or tools. Taking them out helps security officers make sure everyone is safe. Shoes: If the security officer asks you to remove them. Shoes can hide dangerous items like weapons or explosives. By taking off your shoes, security can see if there is anything dangerous inside. Next, put the bin with your items on the conveyor belt. Your bin will go through an X-ray machine for screening. X-ray Machine This is a machine that looks inside your bags to check for forbidden items. Walk Through the Metal Detector Metal Detector This is a device you walk through that checks for metal objects. Wait for the security officer to tell you when to walk through. Walk through the metal detector slowly. If the metal detector beeps, you may need extra screening. Pat-down A security officer may check you with their hands. Sometimes, you may need to stand in a full-body scanner. Collect Your Items After your items come out of the X-ray machine, collect them from the bin and put them back on. After passing through security, you must find your gate. See you in our next video!

Get on is to board or mount. Get off is to leave or dismount. Use "get in" for cars, bikes, motorcycles, horses and small-sized boats like rowboats, canoes, small motorboats, and dinghies, where you primarily sit inside a confined space. Use "get on" for ferries, yachts, large motorboats, and cruise ships, or if the boat has a deck or is a larger vessel where you board and can walk around. Use "get out of" for cars and small-sized boats.

Basic Check-in Agent: Good morning. May I have your passport and ticket, please? Passenger: Good morning. Here they are. Agent: Thank you. Are you checking any bags today? Passenger: Yes, I have one suitcase. Agent: Please place your suitcase on the scale. Passenger: Sure. Agent: Your bag is within the weight limit. Here’s your boarding pass. Your flight departs from Gate 15 at 10:30 AM. Passenger: Thank you very much. Agent: You’re welcome. Have a great flight! VOCABULARY Step 1: When you arrive at the airport, you need to find your airline's check-in counter. For example, LATAM Airlines, Avianca Airlines, or Aeromexico. Check-in Counter: The check-in counter is where you show your passport and ticket, check your luggage, and get your boarding pass. Passport: A passport is a small book with your photo that allows you to travel to other countries. You need your passport to check in for your flight. Ticket: A ticket is a document that shows you have paid for a flight. An e-ticket is an electronic version you receive by email. Show your ticket or e-ticket to the check-in agent. Luggage or Baggage: Luggage refers to the bags and suitcases you take on a trip. Passengers usually have to check in their larger bags, typically those that weigh more than 10kg, depending on the class. Airlines have a weight limit for checked bags, usually between 23 to 32kg, depending on the airline. This is the maximum weight your luggage can be without extra fees. Baggage Tagging: The checked luggage is tagged with the passenger’s flight details and destination. Check-in bags are transported in the aircraft's cargo hold. Carry-on: A carry-on bag is a small bag that you can take with you on the plane and keep in the cabin, usually weighing up to 7 to 10kg. Boarding Pass: A boarding pass is a paper or electronic pass that you need to get on the plane. It has your seat number and gate information. Gate: The gate is the place in the airport where you wait to board your plane. It is usually numbered. Your boarding pass will tell you your gate number. Security Check: After check-in, you must go through the security check. See you in our next video!
