How I Handled Off-Leash Dog Encounter with My Border Collie Pup (And Why)
In this video, I share an unexpected encounter with my Border Collie puppy and an off-leash dog in a neighborhood field. Watch as I break down the situation step by step, from how the two dogs and owners interacted to how I handled the encounter to keep my puppy safe. I'll also share tips on how to show your dog you’ve got their back, the most common mistakes people make when introducing dogs, and why dog parks are not the ideal setting for these interactions. If you're a dog owner or training enthusiast, this video is packed with practical advice for navigating real-life situations.

Oh great when will that be?
So just a question what would you do if you had a Border Collie over the edge and hyper and jumping up jumping up jumping up when HEELINGN nothing seems to work would you use a prong collar or a electric collar to stop that?
The short answer is no I would not use those tools for that. I will give a longer answer on our next Ask Argos.
What a sweet, sweet, sweet boy
Thank You!!!
❤😊🎉
💯❤️🔥
If your pup isn't ready yet, try these: Handling exercise: th-cam.com/video/Ot5sv_4Ia1A/w-d-xo.html Tool conditioning: th-cam.com/video/u9FgNx98CN0/w-d-xo.html
For those who think the collar is on backward, here's what I think: th-cam.com/video/J2-ByUeB8SQ/w-d-xo.html Let me know if you agree!
LOL collar is on backward. The plate directs the prongs to go different directions from the front (trachea). The chain goes in the back where the leash is fastened on the "live" ring. Herm Sprenger USA website (collar manufacturer) shows in a video how the collar should be placed.
Wow, you are one lucky person. All of his nails are white. A dog with black nails are really really almost impossible to quit properly. Oh, you are just so lucky.
There is a lot of stuff, agility people use for the body awareness. It is very, very safe like on the ball. Do you know the ball you could teach her to come forward and then back up you could teach her to go through the cones. There’s a lot of different body awareness things you could do but just be very careful sometimes like I said the things high up like a ladder could be dangerous. That’s all I’m a border collie, lover, and owner myself
Yes, I know other exercises can teach these things. I do those, too. I keep my dog safe. He trusts that I will catch him if he falls, I will catch him; there are no sharp edges on the ladder, so there is no danger at all. Thank you for your concern.
I would never do this with my puppy. What is the purpose?
Bonding and teaching body awareness.
OK, I love the bonding part so you’re trying to teach control when you tell her to go or get on the ladder that’s the bonding part of it? And the body awareness she’s still very young so just be very careful with the ladder ladders are really really dangerous. Why don’t you do it on the ground?
You do realize he was gonna get euthanized, right? So pitying him, he decides to adopt him and save him
sound comparison on a buckle wins it for me….haha….classic
😁😆😆😆
Nail clipping with Sol coming soon!
Good morning just meant because he’s a young puppy. His joints and tendons are not finished growing yet. That’s all I think you’re doing a great job with him.
Thank you for your concern. I completely understand.
@ OK I’m glad you do because the joints and the tendons and the bones take at least up to two years old to really form and be strong. Thanks for your tubes. I also have Border Collie.
I love it watch his little gentle growing joints
He is not a soft dog. His joints are fine.
So nice at least he’s trying very hard. My dog would be flying on it and off it and jumping over it and falling through it.
Looking GOOOOOOOOOD, Love this video! Thanks for sharing!
Yes! So happy for an update i remember when sol was a lil pup
He’s so cute! I found your video through brushing puppy teeth as i currently have a 19 week old curly coated retriever! Loving these videos, looking forward to Sols journey and getting a few tips from you! 🇬🇧
This is a great, well informed video and its so helpful

Your training technique looks great!
Thank you! I am a real professional. Training dogs for 14 years. If you like this, please subscribe to the channel. We will have a lot more to come!
Really nice tips here. I like the idea of using the other ball throw as a reward for dropping the first.
I was trying to explain to my brother that the reason I’m focused on training behaviors instead of words is because they don’t know words and it can add a lot of confusion and overstimulation when training and this was something I figured out on my own and seeing your video confirm my intuition is just amazing.
Your intuition is amazing! Please subscribe and continue to watch. I make these videos for beginner through advanced dog handlers!
Something I did with my dog and I"m so glad I did and never will not do it again, is I never said "Yes" until the dog gave the ball or whatever we are playing with to me in my hand, not dropping it on the ground. If my Boston Terrier Bruce dropped it on the ground I waited until he picked it up and handed it to me then rewarded wtih "Yes" "Treat" whatever you are doing to reinforce. This was one of the best decisions I made, as he always hands me the toy, and I can tell him to go get stuff and he hands it to me. He will also jump up so I don't have to bend over at all. I did this from an early age, because it sucks having to bend over 1000 times when playing fetch, it's better if they just bring it to your hand, and then they know exactly where to go instead of just a general area.
That's great and I am happy for you. Thank you for watching the channel. I hope that as you continue to watch you will see that ad my pup grows he masters the same skill. There are so many ways to train dogs, and the smarter the dog is the more ways there are to train them.

Do you have the dog facing you or away from you.
For most of the exercises in the video, the puppy is facing away.
Well hello and no, you don’t know me. I actually live in Connecticut, but I am a dog trainer. I’ve trained dogs all my life and I’ve done competition obedience ring sport doc diving nose work and my new dog loves nose work. Right now I just teach my own dogs and work only one day a week at the club but I do have border collies and that’s why I’m so interested because I love them so very dearly and when I got my first Border Collie, not many people had them unless you had sheep But it seems like everybody wants one and they’re very very popular for agility, but I don’t like the agility type but we won’t get into that that’s OK and we look forward to your new tubes. I do have a small amount of videos up on my channel, but only a few OK, bye-bye
Actually, I found you a while back when someone did an interview with you, but I don’t know who it was but I’m sure you do and I admired your ways so I subscribe to your channel
Thank you, I will check your channel out.
So I see the webpage on Facebook, which again is in Texas, so I’m not familiar but what dog is your puppies mother so I could look her up
I am gonna ask.for your patience. I promise I will tell the whole story. Do I know you? Are you a dog trainer?
I’ve been waiting so patiently you said you were going to do a little video on his breeder and also I’m sure he’s probably a lot older now this was taken maybe a month ago more videos please more videos
Thank you for the comment! It is good to hear from you. I am sorry, but youtubing is not our full-time job, and I was waiting on Sol's papers so we can share that, too. We will make that video. Sol comes from Goracke Border-Collies. The bitch is one of Stephanie Goracke's dogs, and, the sire is one of Steve Rhidenour's. Are you familiar with these people? So what’s the name of the kennel you got him from in Texas or maybe it’s just a farm I assume and you saying that the father is a champion herding dog that’s phenomenal and what about the mother
These are exciting questions. We are shooting a new video this weekend. I think we will address all these questions during that recording. If you have more questions, please post them before Sunday morning. Thank you!
Oh thanks for sending me the link about picking your puppy up so you’re saying you got him at an airport and you didn’t go to the kennel how did you pick him?
Wish this video came out when i first got my border collie puppy. We were obviously given the advice to socialise her as soon as she was vaccinated. We took her to puppy play, she got to say hi to anyone who wanted to whilst on a walk. Now we're having to train her to ignore people on walks unless commanded to say hi because if she see's anyone even the other side of the field we walk her on she does full on backflips if she can't go to them.
@@BelindaTait-ju1gp just go slow people do that a lot because they think socialization is going to meet every dog and You, every person in the world before it’s three months old so just hit the back button and keep your distance and don’t let her jump and run and want to go to other dogs or people have the fun with YOU bring a tug toy or a ball or some tasty treats have her see that the fun is with you and again keep your distance and work up to people when she’s not pulling or wanting to be with other dogs or people she’ll get it
Shots....! So you start by harming your dog..... Tsk tsk
Ot s just al baby, she nerds love and cuddling. Its not a product for show.for your ego. Dont buy pappies and all the things she must do…. For live or connection. Give het love and rest . And all the socialisation is to mutch input for her.
