    I used to get bullied back then in high school. My self-esteem is low and it's hard to change my habit of being the quietest person in a room. Now that I'm trying to change, socialising more, it feels nice. However, I do still feel awkward and scared when I see my old classmates, teachers, etc because they know who I used to be. What should I do with this uneasy feeling?

    • @5-minuteBreakthroughs
      @5-minuteBreakthroughs หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's not your job to change other people's opinions. Your only job is to love yourself, and focus on learning and doing the best you can each and every day. And always, always, have love and self compassion for yourself no matter what. If they can't move on and still stuck in their viewpoints from high school, that's too bad for them. That's their issue, not yours! Hope this made sense and helps you see that it doesn't matter what anyone thinks. You're also not the self image you have of yourself, or the image others have of you. That image isn't actually real. It's not you. I'm going to make a video about this eventually.

    • @Sa-ie1ym
      @Sa-ie1ym หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you, this reply honestly makes my day better. 😊 Self compassion is new to me, I used to blame myself for being weak, shy and reserved because I think that's what makes me an easy target. You know, the way they avert their gaze to me, the way they whisper to each other, the way they laugh at me whenever I was around leaves a wound in my heart. I don't know how deep it is but it's enough to make me cry while typing this. I'll try, try to accept that this is a part of my past. Oh, they still mock me in groupchats, even though we're adults already. I think that's why I still feel this way... And as a bonus, nobody defended me. ((sorry if I overshared))

    • @5-minuteBreakthroughs
      @5-minuteBreakthroughs หลายเดือนก่อน

      Self compassion is the most important part of self development that doesn't get talked about enough. Love yourself NO MATTER WHAT! And it's okay to feel weak, shy and reserved. There's NOTHING wrong with that. And there's NOTHING wrong with you. Not back then, not now, not in the future. You are exactly how you are supposed to be. Embrace that. Now let's talk about these people mocking you. When people talk bad about other people in ANY way, it's a reflection of THEM NOT YOU! Please realize this. It will make your life much easier. If someone mocks you or says something mean to you, it's 100% a reflection of them. Not you. Literally means everything about them, and nothing about you. Hope this makes sense.

    • @Sa-ie1ym
      @Sa-ie1ym หลายเดือนก่อน

      What do you mean by "if someone mocks you, it's a reflection of them?" I mean... they're outgoing and easy to make friends while they mock me for being too shy. It isn't really a "reflection" of them?

    • @Sa-ie1ym
      @Sa-ie1ym หลายเดือนก่อน

      But really, I need to change. Working demands me to socialize. I understand that it's okay to be shy but I can't live like this forever. They say humans are social creatures after all.

    To sum it up, here’s your simple, four-step path to meditation: * Sit Comfortably: Find a cozy chair and let your hands rest easily on your lap or the armrests. Eyes can be open or closed, but if you’re just starting, try closing them to minimize distractions. * Breathe from Your Belly: Take deep breaths in through your nose, letting your belly expand like a balloon, and exhale slowly through your mouth. Use the hand-on-chest and belly technique to get the hang of it. * Focus on Your Breath: Keep your attention on the feeling of air moving in and out of your body, the rise and fall of your belly. * Handle Thoughts Gracefully: When thoughts arise, acknowledge them but don't engage. Let them be a reminder to return your focus to your breath. And remember, the length of your meditation isn't crucial. Whether it’s one minute or twenty, what matters is making the practice your own. Thanks again for watching.

    • @5-minuteBreakthroughs
      @5-minuteBreakthroughs 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I just want to say it's important to give yourself absolute self compassion and love as you're quitting. When things get hard, and you allow yourself to have a cigarette, don't get down on yourself. It's okay. Really, it is. Another thing to keep in mind is that change usually isn't a sudden thing. The brain likes to think in absolutes, in all or nothing thinking. In psychology it's called a cognitive bias and the brain has a lot of them! When you give in to a cigarette your brain probably says something like "See! You don't have enough willpower. You're never going to quit." But the thing is change is usually incremental, and not all at once. So go easy on yourself, and take it day by day. And don't worry if you give in to a craving. No big deal. Remember, change is a gradual process. You don't have to change all at once. Hope this makes sense. I'm proud of you by the way! And I can't wait til I read that comment about how you no longer smoke. Even if it takes awhile before you get there, but you will.

So it means a lot to me that you took the time to watch. And a funny story, sort of. I actually caught that slip up, RIGHT AFTER I UPLOADED IT TO THE CHANNEL! I was like NOOOOOOOOO!!! I think it's too late to go back and fix it without having to delete the video from the channel first. If you know a way please tell me! But I think the point I was making still gets across even with the slip up. But there's a bigger lesson for me here. I'm a recovering perfectionist. Perfectionism always kept me from finishing things and putting my work out to the public but I've learned ways to overcome it. As a matter of fact my very first video is about overcoming perfectionism. In that video I caught a few mistakes, but I decided to keep them in to prove to myself that I can take action without having to be perfect. It's really freed me. But thanks again for pointing it out. And thank you for watching!

    Writing down stuff helps a lot with a lot of things to be honest, it's really good if we make the habit of writing things down like goals , plans. things that bother us to understand them etc.

      Totally agree! I write down everything. Goals, obstacles to goals and how I can get around them, obviously worries, what my future is going to look like, or just what's on my mind.

    Found your comment under Ali Abdaal's community post and came here to watch this. I had been struggling with this perfection mindset for so long now. And recently been listening to his audiobook and telling myself 'Let it get worse, it's okay' or 'let me terribly fail, I'll get up n try again'. These tips are very helpful too. Great video, keep growing❤

      Thanks for watching the video. I'm glad you liked it. it's important to realize that there's no such thing as perfection, so we might as well eliminate the word from our vocabulary. But there is growth and that's what we're after. Not perfection but growth. There's also no such thing as failure. It's part of every process to try, fail, learn from the failure, try again, and keep growing. Authors go through many many drafts before they get to a draft that's workable. But does that mean all those early drafts were failures? No, they were necessary and a very important part of the process. Failure is feedback that's ALWAYS part of the process. With everything. Don't fear it, expect it and embrace it. I also write screenplays and one of my favorite quotes is from one of the head guys at Pixar who created the movies Toy Story, Monsters Inc, and a ton of other great animated movies. His motto is "Get it wrong as fast as you can." It's all about failing and learning and just getting better. So forget perfection, think growth. And embrace failure because it's an important part of the process. And most importantly, let loose and have fun making mistakes and learning from them. Go very easy on yourself. Its not as serious as our brain's make it out to be.

    I’ll try swiping left or right instead of mindlessly scrolling up like I normally do. By visualizing that action I feel that it will keep my mind from being cluttered with unaddressed thoughts. Thank for another great piece of advice.👍

    My mantra for this is "my mind is a river, and my thoughts are fish". Some fish are ugly so I let them swim on by, down the river. Some fish are interesting, those I can follow for a bit. I really like your tinder allegory too! Simple but powerful methods for the anxious mind.

    I'm grateful that there's a collaborative space here to share a little bit of my perhaps seemingly unimpressive insight into breaking out of perfectionism. It means a lot to me that someone responds, and my biggest vision here is to aspire for the following heartfelt words I post to have the power to reach the heart. In addition to the core component of personal growth mentioned in the video, one of the things we can do is to renew our mindset, specifically to change our preconceived notions of what "perfection" is. In people's minds, "perfect" means infallible, i.e., not making any mistakes, but this creates a big problem in that perfectionists are afraid to make mistakes, focusing only on the glory of the result and ignoring the fun of the process, which greatly reduces their sense of accomplishment in a task. The solution to this problem is as simple as changing the description of the word "perfect" from infallible to satisfactory, and maintaining patience and perseverance rather than striving for "perfection". This means we can use "perfect" as a guidepost rather than a hard target! When you realize that things are not perfect, it is your subconscious mind suggesting to you that you are not satisfied with a particular part of the thing, and all you need to do is to find that particular part of yourself that you are not satisfied with, lock it down and release it, which drives you to explore a new and optimized solution to replace it, and thus set yourself on a journey of self-improvement that is relevant to your own interests, aspirations and values.That's really cool, don't you think? As a side note, I just stumbled upon this technique, and here's the thing: I've been trying to find a good vocabulary memorization program for the past three days, and I've had to put it on hold due to a combination of malfunctioning software, fancy features, and the same old thing that makes me suffer from perfectionism. But thankfully, I finally found a good vocabulary memorizer under the guidance of my "perfectionism", without fancy features, so that I can experience the fun of memorizing vocabulary in an immersive way, and then I realized that what I need is a pure freeware, not a popular software with in-app purchases (Google Play Store). I got what I wanted, even if it put my vocabulary memorization task on hold, a long-term source of motivation is something I've been seeking for my whole life, and it makes it easy for me to get a sense of accomplishment out of things.

    Remember, we're not the creators of our thoughts; we're the observers. 🌌 Thoughts come and go, and it's our choice to engage with them playfully or let them pass. We don't have to own every thought that visits our mind. Embrace this freedom and explore the lightness it brings to your life. 💡 And remember, just because a thought pops up in your head, it doesn't mean you have to go to bed with it. Swipe left! 😂👈
