VW Golf GTI Trailer Hitch Install?!?

Welcome Back! Today I will be installing a trailer hitch on my buddies MK7 Golf GTI. Why? so he can carry his bikes with in and not take them in the car. Why not a roof rack? Well it was more expensive and would require more work to his bike. This is a bit of a strange video, but I wanted to show you something practical for a VW GTI. Enjoy and see you all again soon! Hoo boy, that's a lot of surface area to ceramic coat. Oh, and pineapple doesn't belong on my pizza. Life it too short to whine about what other people put on their pizza though
@renob98362 there was no whining just two friends busting each other balls. 😂 yeah we went through two bottles of the ceramic coat on the truck.
I want my civic detailed
@@Clemu-ru so grab some product and detail it! You gotta DIY it and take pride in your work!
Need more videos like this.....other than 3 hours of some moron describing replacement down to how to put the key in the ignition lol
Can I take the pistons out without removing crankshaft pulley
@MoneyManJake technically yes you can. You slip the belt off the cam gear. Remove the cylinder head and oil pan and you could then remove the pistons leaving the crank pulley on. Getting the timing belt back on can be a bit of a challenge and you need to have it perfectly timed top and bottom when you do
Looks great! What fog lights are those? Gonna have to take a closer look next time you’re around to see what their output is like.
@ALMX5DP they are a plug and play diode dynamics kit. I love them. They are nice and bright and have a good spread and it was all plug and play.
@@Fix_it_Garage nice, I have seen those and some Morimotos that look like a great replacement for OE fogs. Are yours more for "offroad" use or have you run them on the street without issues like potentially being blinding towards others?
@ALMX5DP i run them on the street and I've only had someone flash me like once. But they are sold as can be used on road. That are no brighter then most modern day car headlights
How much do you loose on mpg with this liftkit?
I'm not sure. I don't think you'd lose much from the lift. Maybe like 1 or 2. But the slightly offroad tires will definitely take away a few mpg.
Thanks
So, when rebuilding an ej22, I can rebuild it, then time it when it's all put back together?
@mrwnking correct. What i usually do is i set cylinder one just before TDC that way there's no chance of touching valve to piston. Then I put the heads on get the cams mostly times roll the engine back to cylinder 1 TDC and install the belt and check it like 1000 times before I rotate it over. And I rotate it multiple times to verify the timing is right. There's lots of manuals and photos of what the correct timing is when installing the belt
Fallo en la bomba de agua. La tuya original tiene el termostato hacia abajo.
What kind of tensioner bracket is that? Im rebuilding my Ej22, and im putting that same tensioner in mine.
It's an ej25 sti bracket. I had to cut off a piece of the bracket to work on the ej22 but it worked really well. I preferred the ej25 tensioner to the older style ones
I'm getting all my parts and tools for my ej22🎉 So far, I'm just getting all OEM Subaru parts off of eBay.
@mrwnking nice smart that's the way to do it!
this kinda sounds like the m3 gtr
Where is your garage?
@dungly8202 it's someplace. Haha. It's not an open to the public shop.
How was the t belt installation? Heard it’s a nightmare
@BCautosolutions it was definitely a challenge compared to the orginal v6's. I installed it very carefully after I damaged the orginal one. It cause an aluminum piece and tore a big. The replacement belt is used two cam holder and went really carefully around the cams to try and avoid catching it on an aluminum guide pieces. Definitely a pain. At some point I'll do a full length video on the new v6 timing belts. But I haven't had one to do it on again yet
@ yep plan on doing the same. ✅
That piston ring video is how I found this channel. I notice this channel only has like 2K subs, but that videos and videos like that will bring more, because you’re willing to do what other mechanic channels won’t.
Thank you. Much appreciated. Glad you found my channel through that video. Once my finical situation improves I'll be doing more series like that. Fixing and rebuilding and even modifying cars and showing lots of the steps as I go.
What kind of downpipes were used i want to down pipe mines but i cant find any
I think they were IMR downpipes. I can't remember exactly
Why play that insane trash on your video?
Nice job dropping all those seconds on Sunday
Thanks Sunday felt a lot better. Started to get a little more comfortable with the car. Not bad for my first weekend driving this vette. Big step up from an ssc brz haha
which way did you turn the crank bolt because you said on the hrv you turn cc .thank you
You would turn the crank pulley towards the front of the car to rotate the engine so clockwise. That also means I mis spoke on the hrv and ill need to correct it. For a honda if the crank pulley is on the passenger side rotate clockwise. If it's on the drivers side it's counter clockwise
@@Fix_it_Garage I thought so ,great work thank you
Thank you!
Awesome video thank you good mechanic work
Thank you for watching!
Is that the 1.5" Lift? Looks Good
@JerryCline-ik4jo yeah the j Sport lift is a 1.5" lift. I think it looks really good. Makes the crv look a lot better
Just saw your car on the highway😂
@@semo5499 Hell Yeah!!
7:03 that was not fun? Of course that was fun, what about getting into your pistons and replacing the rings, that for sure was a whole lot more work than this simple job lol
@alexafa316 it was a lot more work for sure doing the pistons and rings and it was fun as well
@@Fix_it_Garage yeah definitely fun man. I haven't done this yet, I'm gathering all the information cuz I wanna replace my rings too on my 2000 Integra ls b18b1
@alexafa316 those are fun as well. Idk if it happens on the b18b1's but check the valves. I know on the b20's they like to suck into the cylinder heads and cause issues
@@Fix_it_Garage hmm ok thanks for the headsup, maybe the valves that I bought from eBay suck but yeah I'm getting more oil dumped into my cylinders and I just recently got a new CA cat convertor so would suck to get that messed up from the oil
Doesn't look like it is that hard of job. I have an 04 Accord EX and was wondering, should I also do the oil pump chain? I ask because that looks like a much bigger job of having to take the oil pan off. Thanks, Mark
Oil pump chain is definitely more work. Some of the K series oil pans are not fun to get off in the car. The oil pump balance shaft chain usually doesn't need replacement. It's very rare that I see them stretch. The timing Chain is usually the only one that fails on the K series Honda motors.
Currently rebuilding mine hopefully it goes well
You got this!
YT babblng adolescent like all the others.
First things first take the hood off and drain the fluids. Then have at it
Will your buddy make and sell one to me or it was just a favor
It was kind of a favor that paid him for. He mostly makes custom parts for 4x4 toyotas. But if you look him on ig and message him. He might make one for you. It was all custom and custom usually costs extra just a heads up, but it's done amazing at keep IAT's down
Who made custom air box to fit with front mount intercooler
A buddy of mine who owns a business called bellfab
Chemdip would have left them sparkling
Great job ! I believe needs new oil and filter was a bit dark... Sounds good tho. How many miles does it has?
Thank you! Oil is fine on the car. It was due for an oil change that I did the next day at work. Car has like 150k miles. I had it opened up recently for a different video and it's perfect inside the motor.
i would hone the sleeves change pistons and rings and rod bearings this wouldn't cost anything
Bit of a long shot but do you know/can find out what the wheel is and the specs they have?
Unfortunately he sold the car and can't remember what specs they were
This vehicle is on fitment industries gallery
@moodyaroma7338 really?? That's awesome! I'll have to tell the owner
@ thanks for doing this video. I myself just bought a 2022 Subaru Sport Hatchback and have been trying to figure out whether to go with RS-R or H&R lowering springs.
I expected to see you meadure the ring gaps....
@Anthony11qq yeahhh my bad. The camera battery died and because I was focused I didn't notice the camera shut off. I checked them. All the rings that came in the box were all within honda spec and needed no filing before installing though
Thanks for the video! I don’t see any others on installing this on the MK8. I’m planning to install it on an R, any idea if it would be pretty much the same?
As far as I can tell it should be pretty much exactly the same in the Golf R
Can i do this without removing the timing covers and the whole timing stuff? Like my timing belt ect. Are pretty new cuz the previous owner did them and i want to change the rings but i dont want to take off the crank bolt. Any possible way?
Sort of. If your pulling the pistons then no you need to take it all apart. For just a headgasket you ca. Do that without removing the lower timing cover, but you will need to take tensioner off the tensioner with the timing cover on. It can be dine but if the spring in there falls off you gotta take it all apart anyway
did you replace the sprockets together with the chain?
@scottcheung3141 i did not. I've been working for honda a long time and I've never seen the sprockets wear out on them. Just the chain, guides and tensioner
@@Fix_it_Garage good to know. I got a code P0341 and turned out to be a chain stretch. When I was looking for timing chain kit online, some come with the sprockets and that got me wonder. Thanks for the video and explanation. you showed me all the steps I need to take
Need full video please 😂
@@Abdulaziz-dg4hm when I can do this job at my personal shop instead of work I'll be making a full length video
Great video man. I’m doing the same to my civic just wondering if I have to hone the cylinder walls before I install my new rings?
I didnt on this car. I checked the cross hatching on the cylinder walls and it was good enough to not hone the cylinder. however that can vary by each car. its a safer bet to do a light hone on something like this usually.
@@Fix_it_Garage okay thank you so much bro, I will double check my walls and see how they look.
I have no idea what it must feel like to get your shop back
What does that RED gadget do ?
It's a hydraulic press to press the bushing in and out of the control arms
@@Fix_it_Garage Can the bushing be removed and installed without the hydraulic press ?
What size compression piston rings tool did you use?
I cant remember if Im being honest. My piston ring instaling set has multiple size ranges. I didnt check what sized I used. I just looked for the one that fit.
Nice room setup! I love Lego Speed Champions too. I have every set except polybags and that super rare Mercedes F1 team promo car.
@drh0d3s Nice I'm in the same boat. I have everyone except the f1 promo car. I do not want to spend the crazy money people want for it. Speed champions are my favorite non technic sets by far
How much for this I want to get the same done?
That depends where you take the car. To tear down and engine to replace piston rings is usually in the thousands of dollar ranges. The shop where I work at charges like around like 3k just for labor I believe. I definitely don't get paid anywhere near that though haha
Thank you man this is the video I was looking for ❤😊
@@paulomachava1856 yout welcome! Im glad you enjoyed it!
is there a chance you retrieve the brand that comes off the starter on the honda package? there is mitsuba denso and another brand but im not sure which one to get that is the closest to oem so i dont pay the honda branded extra money for it lol
@josephlossi7440 most of the oem ones are denso's.
@josephlossi7440 also very good on you for getting from the orginal brand instead of paying markup from honda. Once I stop working for honda I'll be doing the same thing
Is it hard to just replace the light in there/the fuse for the light? My shifter is fine it just doesn't light up anything along the center console at all.
That could possibly be fuse (I don't know which one it is) or a wiring harness issue. If it's still under warranty, have the dealer look at.
Thanks for stepping in to answer. I'm not sure on those. But it definitely sounds like a fuse or harness issue.
I did exactly this about a year ago. I see the console panel held you up. The key is removing the front cupholder as well in order to remove the console panel.
Yeah I figured that out eventually. I learned that after some trial.and error. Having zero directions though I was not upset about it at all
I just bought a Honda CRV 2005 model I'm in Canada it's at 318,000 km or 198 000 miles. I really liked it I had originally purchased a Honda civic but that didn't work out so I brought it back to the dealer, and he traded me for this which I love. I know it's been driving for a long time but it's a great car and I would definitely look into getting another one
How difficult was it to remove the front cover off?
Not to bad. I remove the coolant expansion tank and the plastic intake pipe before the turbo off. One the motor mount removed there is plenty of room to get the cover off
@@Fix_it_Garage awesome. I have a 2017 Honda CRV and I’m afraid I might run into this same issue. Thank you!
@abelgarcia8615 your welcome. Hopefully you don't run into any headgasket issues
Do you need to resurface it? Or you just change the gasket? Thanks mine is blown and I’m trying to figure out it I have to remove the block to machine it or not …
