Join Meryl Arnett {mama. meditator. teacher.} on Our Mindful Nature each week as we explore the deep connection between the land and Self through nature-based meditations and contemplative experiences that invite us back into belonging - to each other, our ancestors, the earth, and all beings that make up this universe.
Our Mindful Nature is the new name of The Mindful Minute podcast. I {Meryl} have been sharing meditation classes on this podcast for more than 8 years, and as of 2024, I felt it was time to update the name to more accurately reflect the content I share. You can continue to expect inspirational talks, guided meditations and occasional interviews. You can continue to expect classes centered on accessible, equitable, communal well-being primarily through nature-based meditations created through the lens of Tantric meditation and Spiritual Ecology.

The Art of Listening: Unraveling Nature's Voice at Canaveral National Seashore
Soundscape Alchemy.
Friends, what an episode I have for you today! Months ago, I took an impromptu trip to Canaveral National Seashore to visit acoustic artists Perri Lynch Howard and Gordon Hempton.
Frequent collaborators on the podcast, I was ecstatic to spend a weekend practicing the art of listening with them both. We walked mangroves, explored shorelines, and discussed the interplay of human voice, aerospace traffic, and birdsong.
The creative collaboration of Gordon and Perri resulted in a stunning piece of environmental art titled, “Hear Me Out.”
Join me today for a discussion of what it means to listen with honesty, to weave ourselves into the natural world we inhabit, and to move “in close proximity to lifelong love.”
In this episode, Perri and Gordon delve into their experiences during their artist residency at Canaveral National Seashore through the Soundscape Field Station Artist Residency Program. The conversation highlights their collaborative project 'Hear Me Out', which investigates the changing soundscapes and their artistic interpretations influenced by the environment. They share their journey of recording, the emotional challenges faced, and how Doris Leeper's legacy inspired their work. The discussion also touches on the significance of natural sound preservation and future projects related to soundscapes and environmental art.
At the end, pop in your headphones, close your eyes, and listen to “Hear Me Out.”
Gordon Hempton
Acoustic ecologist Gordon Hempton has circled the globe three times in pursuit of the Earth’s rarest sounds. His sound portraits which record quickly vanishing natural soundscapes have been featured in People magazine and a national PBS television documentary, Vanishing Dawn Chorus, which earned him an Emmy. Hempton provides professional audio services to media
producers, including Microsoft, Smithsonian, National Geographic and Discovery Channel. Recipient of awards from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Rolex Awards for Enterprise he is co-author of One Square Inch of Silence: One Man’s Quest to Preserve Quiet (Free Press/Simon & Schuster, 2010) and Founding Partner of Quiet Parks International.

GORGEOUS!❤❤❤
Thank you so much! I recently finished this book, and it was so powerful to hear Andrew talk about it and guide us into the practice.
Later this month I have another interview with Andrew coming out about his newest book! Stay tuned...
And BG wants to cut down and bury MILLIONS of Trees 🤬🤬🌳🌲🌳🌲
❤❤
I love wolfs
Loved this convo- thank you 🙏
I'm so glad! Thank you for listening <3
Love this meditation the body scan 😘😘
I'm so glad!!
Thank you for sharing this conversation. Yesterday I read "Lincoln in the Bardo" and it made me suspect that I am in a kind of bardo state. I had only heard the bardo state applied to the dead and wondered it if could also be applied to the living. I did some quick research on this that led me to Andrew's work and the answer to my question is "yes". I will practice this reverse meditation technique to help with letting go of unhealthy, outdated attachments.
I'm so glad you found this interview helpful. Bardo can absolutely apply to the living in my experience. Hope the practices here continue to support you.
Ive been that person that can sit here and it shows up without me doing anything. But usually only when im aligned
Amazing interview, I just bought the book! I love nature and journaling and seasonal living, this sounds right up my alley!
I’m so glad you enjoyed; love this book so much ❤
Karla said "when you say dont have judgments you say don't have boundaries". That too makes sense. I find it essential to make room for our own experiences and learn, progressively to decipher them. Engaging with our own experiences as not only a language of life but as an alive phenonmenon, like we say in french that a language is alive or dead meaning used or ancient and not much used.
"What is means, to create a safe space for you and your body in the room that you're in and your own experience? Yeah, I think it is really important to highlight this " Oh, my... thank you for saying this (at 13'14). Thank you for your work and having Karla talk with you. I felt deeply moved hearing what you said above as it create a sense of clearly I am not alone to see this importance of growing and learning about what really help us being who we are. Rémi
I'm so glad this conversation resonated with you! Thank you for sharing your thoughts.

🙏 Ty, ty, ty. This conversation is life changing. Just the place on the path that I am and just the tool I needed to go deeper and clean up the dark corners of my life. 🧎♂️➡️ I bow in thanks to both of you for leading me to the next key of my self discovery. Love and peace to you both. I hope you feel the healing you are bringing to the world.❤❤❤❤❤
I'm so glad this landed at the right time for you; thanks for listening!

Beautiful!! Thank you!❤ I always feel an immense sense of peacefulness and joy when I listen to your podcasts and whilst I do frequently experience awe as I go about my day, this helps me hold on to it for a little longer and keep the magic flowing. Thank you 💖

*promo sm* ✔️
What a wonderful final meditation; I caught a glimpse of my fear and opened to it.
I'm so glad you enjoyed it!
Excellent interview! Thanks so much for sharing this!
I'm so glad you enjoyed!
Reverse meditation, kinda sounds like the practice performed by the Aghori that intentionally seek the abhorrent to break from the habitual good vs bad judgement. Speaking of which, I understand meditating helps you in your normal day-to-day living, but a deeper way is to use it as a tool to grasp the deeper nature of reality (Buddhadharma/liberation/ego or self-dissolution ). Siddhis suggest there are forms of meditating that allow you to perform extra-ordinary abilities, like alchemy, clairvoyance, astral projection and summoning aliens! However, do these practices help with your spiritual evolution? For example, I think bardo and Liminal dreaming would be in the same category as Yoga (Shambhavi Mahamudra), but not quite as powerful as Kundalini (ascetic)/ Tantra (the more esoteric practices of Hinduism/Buddhism), nor the the occult-like (Freemasons /Black-Magick/hermetic-order).
Hiyeee Meryl, I hope you see this and it finds you well. I hope you remember me from PI, you taught me to meditate back in 2016, seems so long ago. Thank you so much for opening my mind to the art of meditation. Congrats on all your accomplishments, I'll keep listening and meditating.
Hey Sean!!!! I LOVE that you found me here, and I am so glad to hear that yoga & meditation have made a difference for you. I'm actually back at PI teaching mindfulness & yoga again. It is such a special place. Hope you are well <3
Thank you for this, Meryl! Came at a time when I needed to hear it.
I'm so glad, Susan - thanks for watching!
