The cold water should come from the bottom and out the top. Very nice setup. Another consideration you might think about is using vacuum grease or Vaseline on your joints to prevent them locking up

You'd do better cooling if you reversed your cooling tubes. Cold water into the bottom.

Thank you thank you thank you thank you thank yooooou. I was looking for days for a detailed video showing every step on the process of making oil. And this covered everything except one thing… how do you make the water run through the condenser tube? (Im not very smart) but theirs no miter of something making the water run continuously so how did you do that? Thankssssss

Thank Laura for the amazing video. No bla bla. Every word you are saying is appropriate. I am planing on doing an extraction on roses petals and I would like to know if I have to extrct them immediately or if I can collect them for a week or so. I am leaving them on a parchemin on the table so they get kind of dry. thank you.

Nice video! Cloudy hydrosol just needs to sit for 24-48 hours to let the phenols disperse then bottle it and put in the refrigerator and it will clear. When using or storing hydrosol always keep refrigerated. Burnt smell to your essential oil means your temp was way too high. Sitting it out for 7 days will clear some but not all of that burnt smell. Next time lower your temp. Juniper needs to run slower and longer. I can get up to 20ml of essential oil in my heart magic still when I run juniper. Just have to be patient.

Patience is needed grasshopper 🦗. I do see, however, that most comments are with regards to your setup. I watched because I make soap and wanted to know if it was a time efficient way to make my own essential oils, at this time I think I will infuse my oil with the herbs. This was fascinating to watch, glad I did for future use. Thanks so much.

Thanks for the info. What is the best way to clean your equipment after making the oil? Having the water recirculate and at a slower flow rate sounds like a good idea. Using frozen bottles of water can save effort. I was wondering if using a larger container of plant material would also save effort and energy for the amount of oil produced? Great first video with your equipment.

Hello Laura and wonderful husband, thank you for sharing this elaborate process. Boy, I wish technology will progress faster so we have a vision smell. Anyway, I have a simple question: Will it make any difference in condensing the steam if you reverse the intake of cooling water from lower port and let the warmer water come out from the top port? Great now you can use this distiller to produce hard liquor, too. Do some search in youtube on how to make distilled air tuak, a tradisional Malaysian Dayak drink and not the Indonesian Bataknese version. The former usually takes about three weeks to ferment while the later is a non-distilled air tuak which happens overnight and is made through a natural and direct fermentation process on a coconut tree sap at the tree with natural fungus found in a non-pasteurized cocopeat. The process on the later looks pretty disgusting but the drink which looks murky/cloudy is much more potent in term of flavor and alcohol content. Local Bataknese calls this "susu" Batak (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Batak), literally translates to Bataknese milk. If you have a young coconut tree in your backyard and it is starting to bud, then here is your chance to make your own air tuak a la Indonesian Bataknese way. You can make the process more hygiene and use some "ragi tapai" or Chinese yeast ball, instead of cocopeat, to ferment the sap.

Thanks for your careful description. Can you edit this video to show the essentiL oil actually dripping into the small 1/4 ounce vial. If you did so, i had not observed. Still seems overly complex. The search goes on. This explains why these oils are so expensive. Time and skill are essential.

Great video. Just a small note. When you’re priming your Oil Receiver Separator, you only need to fill it above the bottom bend. That way you don’t dilute your hydrosol.
