Very interesting FEI and Olympic discussions. Please continue the discussion.
US Eventing's social pages should do a weekly history picture and story the way US Jumping does.
@@paminglish8869 that’s a great idea
I’m just catching onto your show and so far enjoying it. I like your new set up, but I have a question, are those chairs Comfortable? also, when Rick is banished to the chair farthest to the right, it’s difficult to hear him speak. Keep the shows coming and it’s a good idea to have history of the sport Mentioned.
@@jeani9526 the chairs a fairly comfortable we will keep working on audio. It’s a struggle
Looking forward to “Back in the Day with Briggs”!
If anyone missed them, USEA had good coverage of the Open/TN on their daily News web page and Chronicle of the Horse had a good article on the Open with winner Phillip Dutton. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your viewers.
Excellent story Jon! Very inspiring! Keep going, there will be more! 👏
Thank you so much! It's been a journey.
Oh my gosh, I can’t believe this so many names I used to know when I was in Southern Pines riding and working. I had not heard Dave Kelly’s name in forever and Barney Ward (sp) Joey Darby, I remember very well and met him when I worked for A J McCashin, Jr., I thought the world of him when I was doing Hunter Jumper A Circuit and he would always take forever to get done with anybody’s horses that he was schooling and riding for them. Joey was one great rider!
I’ve never met Mary Bess but I was at the fence when she fell at Carolina. I was so glad to hear that she was able to ride again, and then to get a silver medal…very cool!!!
Really enjoyed hearing from Mary Bess, she's the best!
Yes we were really excited to have her
jon's "fan reaction" was because the livestream director was so poor: always cutting away from consequential jumping to looooong gallops.
That might have added to it
i didn't end up watching maryland. but this would absolutely not surprise me. and i think it's a major access issue! i was so frustrated with the livestream quality from the olympics and kentucky this year that i've kind of just given up. they're SO bad at it and knowing what to show, what camera angles to get. as someone who used to work in live video production it's just. shameful. i get filming horses is different if you aren't used to it, but most of these production teams now do equine sports only. so i don't get it, and i don't have the money to justify on subscriptions for access to just be mad that i can't see anything decent.
Awesome story and very well done!
so awesome...moving and inspiring!
Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed it
❤
Excellent!! Totally enjoyed the ride!! You are a great ambassador for the sport of Eventing, and a consummate horseman. Thanks for all you do!
Thank you
Ok just curious, as I’m comparing to my 6’4 husband…but how tall is Mr Mitchell ? And how tall are the horses he rides ? My husband is riding my 16’1 OTTB and feels he is too big for him
I would think Dennis is around 5’10”.
I have been following you since you started Copain. initially just to see what you can achieve with him. I had no idea what else you did until this video. I must say this is quite impressive. It's great that you are surrounded by the right people and that you can actually make a difference. keep up the good work and give Kurt a treat
Thank you. I love Kurt he is a special horse
There can''t be a Jon Holling doc without the streaking video. 🤣🤣🤣
It just had to be included
Brilliant interview - telling it like it is
We loved having Dennis. He tells it like he sees it
Great story and well told. There is being alive and then there is living life to the fullest. I think you Eventers have figured it out. Living entails risk. Happy people try to minimize the risk and carry on. Thanks for what you and your family do for the sport.
Wow that was so great! You and Jenn are so inspiring, ❤️you guys! My favorite part was your discussion about what Covid did for you!
Well Done! I have been watching your Podcasts even before the Jon and Rick Show and I almost feel like I know you, but I live way too far away to know anybody anymore. I almost thought that since I didn’t see it yesterday that I wasn’t going be able to watch it because it was showing yesterday only. I got to watch it… and this was excellent and there are so many people that need to thank you for what you have done to make Eventing safer! This was tremendous! I will watch it again! ♥️ ps ~ I cried
Good story, nice work, even had the shirt off Matthew Mcconaughey style
Thanks for watching and lol yes I did
My goodness I've been taken on a whirlwind of ups and downs and then again, very well done editing really took me on that journey !! Prefect way to end!!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
THAT was GREAT!
You're an incredibly inspiring rider and person, Jon! Loved this - so glad you shared your story and so thankful to get to be part of this chapter!
Thank you for watching and so happy you liked it
Amazing. Love the story and love you for trying to keep all eventers safer. BRAVO!!!
Thank you!
Cool! Jon, believe it or not Kanyon and Kali did IEA at their place years ago, back when I was trying anything to not buy a horse 😂
Great trip down the hunter/jumper memory lane!!! So good to hear you guys came through the hurricane with little damage. Will be watching Maryland 5* Good Luck to all!
In the mid-80's I worked at a training barn in So Cal that bought a lot of their horses from the Mitchell sales barn. It was great because it was about a half mile away. I also worked for about a year at the Mitchell barn with Patrick at Mrs Hoffman's facility. Dennis was not there much at the time. He's always been a busy guy. I learned a lot there and we had a great time.
Dennis was a great guest. We really enjoyed hearing his stories
Yes, I agree and am throwing down the challange to Jon to do the Mustang Classic in 2025!!
That sounds like a huge time commitment. We will see if I can make it happen
Okay I thought it was Rick announcing in the Classic footage I saw! Thanks for the confirmation. :) Also was a little surprised they did the dressage tests in the 20x60 considering how many there were. It looked like such a fun time, so really glad to hear there will hopefully be another. Congratulations again, Elisa!

We’re really proud of Elisa
Let’s gooo Cosby, great interview!
I was fan before the interview and am more of one now
My mum always said, " do you want this thing (whatever I was doing) to be on the front page of our national paper?" I still think about her words when I start heading towards conflict with anyone of any species. Taking a breath has been a huge step towards not snapping at anyone.
documentary sounds cool :)
Great advice
tracheal cough is congestive heart failure. im caring for a dog whos living with it.
Best Wishes to Liz! JH, I look forward to seeing your documentary. And, Way to GO Cosby and Copper Beach...
Thank you. And yes Cosby was awesome
What a wonderful young lady and amazing equestrian! Her interview is very interesting and heart warming to hear her passion for her horse. Excited to hear her say she'll be competing in Maryland and Kentucky to round out her 5th 5* in a row?!!!
We can’t wait to have Cosby back on American soil for an event!
Rick - try cbd oil for your doggy with trachea problems. It really can work so well for them.
I loved this show!
Thanks Dorothy is a legend
Will has always been a class act. And Liz really stepped up. Good job all!
@@BlueEyes-0222 yes he has
Love the new format! Get the ads over with rather than breaking up the convo. This show is my fave, always look forward to it.
@@TrudyCaz just make sure you listen to our great advertisers. Without them we can’t have a show

Too bad for poor Will, such a bummer. Go Liz and Nutcracker!
Fedarman B is Bruno in the barn.
We knew one of you would know. And I remember it now thanks for the reminder.
oh yay - I have an hour before I have to work - and here is a perfect timing for me to listen to while I groom a dog - thanks!!
Enjoy! Leslie was great!
Ronnie is a hoot and a joy! Wunderbar!❤
Isn’t he great?!
Seattle XOXOXOXO
have become a true fan of Mike Winter via the Jon and Rick Show. Thank you!
Absolutely ~ Frangible change in all levels and fences needed all lives are of equal importance! - how hard can it be to have a selected group of folks to check MIMclips ?
Bravo!!
I believe the team riders at Stableview were protecting their horses' and their own health...
I think you are correct. It’s difficult not to “protect” you spot on the team
Jump 5 combo at Stable View was in the Boyd Martin training field water. There were four water obstacles on the ADV. course. On the subject of frangibles, IMHO, USEF & FEI need to get rid of the penalty until they can guarantee the MIMclips are getting checked for fatigue during the event at every jump, at every level, every time they are hit (or new technology doesn't require checking). Some people wrongly think pushing the warning tabs back-in "re-sets" the clip (yes, I've seen this happen). Watched a 4* awhile back where a frangible jump was hit multiple times, never got checked and tabs were out when I looked at them at the end of the division. Love the safety, hate the penalty. Any word on the status of Dan Michaels' new frangible device? BTW, any news on the Canadian Eventing Olympic team?
Yep I know that’s your feeling on the penalty and I don’t completely disagree. I think they should be more reviewable but the implementation would be tricky
Sorry to sound like a broken record but just trying to encourage more education on the technology in use.
