Large and Smallmouth Bass Feeding on Baitball (ROV, Lake Geneva, WI)

Underwater ROV films Small and Largemouth Bass actively feeding on bait fish. there isn't a lot of footage out there that captures bass hunting, and I find it interesting to see how they work together to push baitfish up against a dropoff to aid in their hunt. This video is best viewed on an iPad, computer, or TV.

      Thanks, this was a cool but frustrating find. I had just gotten out on the lake and found a small bait ball on the edge of a gentle drop. Large marks were on the deeper side of the drop off. I was driving my drone up to the bait ball when I noticed the muskie silhouette approaching me. This ones pretty big 40 to 50 inches, but I had driven my drone almost to the max of the tether length which prevented me from following the muskie any further. It basically disappeared into the deep.

    Really cool footage of that spotted musky, beautiful, see the bass and bluegill hanging out in the background as the Apex rules his territory! Keep at it, hopefully get a 50 incher on film with your underwater ROV! I plan on using Mega 360 and Livescope to track some musky down, then sending my ROVs out, kind of sneak up on'em, they're not easy to catch on film!

    • @greatlakesflyoutdoors1267
      @greatlakesflyoutdoors1267 19 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thank you, they're such a hard species to film because finding them isn't easy at all. The one pictured is likely close to 40 inches which isn't too bad. But I am happy to film any size muskie because even in a lake loaded with them, I might only be lucky to find one a year with my drone. I've used live scope with my BlueROv, and M2 Pro, mixed results because many times the marks end up being pike. The best way to be sneaky with these fish is to keep your distance. The fish get distracted by the drone. In this video, I just wanted to capture the brilliance of the muskie so I got right on top of it. But I have learned that if I can maintain the drone at a distance of around 10 to 15 ft, and keep the subject in view, they won't get sidetracked by the ROV, and will go about their day as if I wasn't there. It's hard to keep a distance but so far this type of filming has paid off. I was actually lucky enough to capture a video of small and largemouth hunting a bait ball. Not easy to film as it took me three years to get it right, but the footage is awesome in my opinion and I am so happy to share it with the fishing community. Good luck with your adventures!! tight lines!

      Hello William, thank you for checking out my video, and for the question. I do have an hourly fee, but from what I understand about Lake Winnebago, its not the clearest waterway? If a body of water isn't clear underwater drone operation and photography are poor at best. I'm all about exploring new waters and helping others understand the lakes they fish, but if the clarity isn't greater than 10ft it's hard to get images that will be helpful. I could be wrong about Lake Winnebago, but I have been told its murky during the summer, what's your observation of water clarity on the lake, or in the areas you like to fish?

    No vent needed?

    • @greatlakesflyoutdoors1267
      @greatlakesflyoutdoors1267 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Great question, the in the video piece had a vent coming of the front fore grip. But I often avoid venting such small pieces. There's a misconception that all pours should be vented. In the case of the piece in my video, it makes some weird turns that create turbulence that may lead to some porosity. But, if its a straight pour like for ex, a sword, no need to vent. The only time I heavily vent is when its a large piece that has multiple angles where a lot of turbulence and gas build-up will take place. I strategically place vent holes where it will benefit the piece post-poor. Ex: venting the handle/pummel area of a sword to help secure a handle to the piece. Or venting an axe head towards the top of the piece where the gasses will get pushed up to and it will be easy to clean post pour. People vent in many cases for no reason. When you create vents, you have to be prepared to repair those areas. Even a long full-size knife doesn’t really need vents because its an easy straight shot to the bottom of the mold.

It's also interesting to notice that the walleye near the temp break or above are way more active, and the ones below almost look like they're resting. Yes, great video. I appreciate the footage and the knowledge you’ve shared. • @greatlakesflyoutdoors1267
      @greatlakesflyoutdoors1267 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@bsmith2120 So I feel like the best bite lies where there are fewer big marks but sizable bait balls and small marks. The small marks are blue gill, and year after year I find lots of feeding lone walleye hanging out with the blue gill. The deep-water walleye that are in the cooler areas seem to be resting more than feeding. Plus there's not really any bait at those depths during the summer. At least this time of year. The best bait I have been using is medium fathead size/patterns. Using this knowledge allowed me to routinely catch walleye on my fly rod in around 20 to 15ft, I just find the bait and start working.

      Thank you!! I'm actually really excited to be filming in Chicago. Besides the fish, there are really cool things to find in the water from the past, or from people chucking things in the water in the present.

      Thank you! It is, this particular clip was shot on the west side of Williams Bay, right at the mouth. I found the Pike in about 35 feet of water, I was searching the drop-off when it swam up to me. Very cool experience, makes me feel like an alien visiting another planet.

    Something tells me a mayfly ain't gonna cut it for dinner. That would be the equivalent to a crumb for a 200 pound man.
