Nice video optimus, do you think anyone could get through that tunnel with gumboots or waiders? I cant belive. The other side is on private property, + there is landslides, this tunnel is very secure, also, are you attempting brooklyn next? Also, is the water at this tunnel deeper than the sugarloaf tunnel?

Great video Richmond vale tunnel 3 is very well hidden. Phil and Warren From Abandoned Oz did a video trying to find the Richmond vale tunnel and couldn't find it and they went further into the bush land along the fire trail and gave up decided to call the video tunnel search fail abandoned Oz

I remember that Falcon. I knew Mark when I was a teenager. Went to his shop a few times. When he got back from Summernats, he sold the Falcon and put a 350 in a Jag. I remember before he went to the Nats, he told us if he hit the guardrail, he was going to blow the motor up doing a burnout. I also remember seeing a XU1 doing a massive burnout outside the shop, I'm pretty sure the driver hit nitrous halfway through a donut. The car jumped and slid sideways till he turned it off. The shop was in Matraville...shit, I haven't been down there in years. Hope you're doing well Mark. I still remember your last name, just don't ask me to spell it. Those were the days.

The bunkers are at juno point. Around past the sport camp at the southern most tip of the headland. -33.569562 lat 151.258669 long There is no easy way to get there. You have to cross patonga Creek and it would mean walking through the sport and rec camps property unless you want a huge detour.

Regarding that water tank, doubtful it was related to steam trains. It was perhaps related to the since demolished abattoir but was left because of the legalities of demolition in the rail corridor. I can tell you with certainty the tanks were built between 1965 and 1971. they arent present on any earlier aerial images. way up behind hawkesbury river there is an old railway water dam that was used to fill steam loco's. There is another up behind narara/niagra park. Gosford station still has their old water tank for filling steam loco's too. There is also the remains of another old dam up behind the Wondabyne quarry, but i think this was to supply water to the steam driven cranes. Lots of interesting history.

There is a fair bit of wartime history in the area. Its well known woy woy was home to a dispersal airstrip. Another at tuggerah, some of which is still visible. There are also holes in the old sandstone bridge piers still visible from where explosives were placed during the war. Gun emplacements are still visible in hawkesbury river. There are also bunkers on the headland south of patonga. I think they housed electronics for an induction loop to detect submarines. - edit - the juno point bunker was an extension of west head. They had a phone line connection between them but no induction loop. The logic for the explosives was to slow down a japanese invasion if they had landed at newcastle and headed south towards sydney. The worry was absolutely real during the war. Some other notable events during the war, a spitfire crashed into the water off wamberal beach.
