As far as leather motorcycle products go, these are top-shelf! Narrows of the Harpeth kayak to the tunnel falls. A peaceful float.
มุมมอง 3234 ปีที่แล้ว
Kayaking the Harpeth River and locating the stream that leads to the back side of the tunnel falls at the Narrows of the Harpeth. It is most accessible right after heavy rains when the river is flooded. Since it had rained hard overnight and the river banks were flooded on this day, it kept the inexperienced kayakers and children away. I was the only one kayaking the river at this time, having ...
I have a Softail Slim 107 with a similar setup, except I have the Vance & Hines Short Shots Staggered. It was tuned with the Techno Research. I love the way it runs at mid and high rpm, but at low rpm is lunges a bit. I can’t tell if it’s the tune or the shorter exhaust. How does your bike run at low rpms (2000-3000)?
I am not sure what you mean by your bike lunges. If you have a torque CAM, it should be strong and smooth at 2000-3000 RPM. I have had no issues with this CAM, pipes, or tune set-up. It is quick, smooth, and powerful all the way through the gears. You might need to have your bike looked at just to be on the safe side.
Since you can only order one at a time, does the bike feel unbalanced with just the one bag attached?
You can order a set, but you have to go through the order process twice on their web site, once for the right bag and once for the left. They are not sold as a set. At least they were not when I got these over a year ago.
Sounds beyond good! George Bryce is a good man and knows a thing or two about hotrod bikes.....
What saddle bags have you got 👊🏻
End Cuoio Folk Saddlebags, I have a video on them with the link in the description.
Is this the new Big Shots with the PCX baffle tech in it?
Yes, it has the PCX Power Chamber Technology with the Chambered High-Flow Catalyst Cartridge
@@southern_ramblerthanks for the response, you’ve probably got one of the only videos with the new PCX big shots on TH-cam. How loud is it compared to the stock pipes or cheap slip ons? I wear earplugs when I ride so I prefer a louder exhaust so I can still hear/enjoy it.
@@metalmystic6214 It is hard to explain sound level, but I put the Vance & Hines 3" Round Twin Slash Slip-Ons on it first; those were about 30% louder then the stock pipes. After putting the Big Shots on, I would say about 40% louder than the stock pipes. I have one of the quietest full face helmets on the market, and the sound is still loud; but they are not obnoxiously loud as some people claim on the google chats and threads. However, you will have no problem hearing them even with ear plugs in. The video does not do the sound of these justice.
Stumbled across this today. That RC at 2:45 was me and my son. Awesome day. Glad y’all caught a piece of it and had a great time as well.
Glad you found this; it was some of the most fun I ever had. You are lucky to have one of these, they have got to be some of the best big boy toys yet. Hopefully we will cross paths again sometime.
I have just had the same super experience communicating with Dani. Ordered just one bag (roll gypsy). Have had a bag and a seat from them in the past. Quality is the best and service second to none.
U drive fast through that residential area. Im too worried about teeangers pulling out of their driveway, dogs running out, kids etc etc
They look awesome I'm thinking of em for my slim in dark brown are they the standard or fat as I need to be able to put my entire camping kit in em cheers from ireland brother
The ones in the video are the standard size; you will definitely want to get the fat bags if packing for overnight trips. Enjoy your rides through that beautiful Irish Countryside.
@southern_rambler cheers for the reply yeah we have nice spins but nothing like the open roads yea have stateside my uncle done some of route 66 with his buddy from the navy they said it was awesome
Hi, what size is it, normal or fat?
I got the regular (normal) size bags. They do not hold much. I just use them to carry little things. I can squeeze my Harley Davidson fleece jacket in one, but there is no way a full size leather jacket would fit, nor can I even get my half helmet to fit. If you want to store things of that size, I would recommend the fat bags.
Great bike and awesome sound! How is the bike to be ridden with low rpm at low speed? Is it still drivable with e.g. 1500 rpm?
1500 rpm sounds a little low for cruising. I have been told by many people that it is not good for the engine to cruise with the rpm's to low. A common opinion appears to be to ride the bike around 2500 to 3000 rpm. I generally ride mine around 2300 rpm. The bike will cruise at 1500 rpm easy enough, but it will feel sluggish and you will not really feel the torque as much when you need it for passing. sitting around 2000 rpm, I have great torque.
I got Softail slim 107 with same exhaust and air cleaner. When you changed the cam did it made exhaust louder? Im currently running quite baffles in it.
I had the pipes put on at the same time that the cam was installed, so I never heard them without the cam to give a before and after opinion. I had the Vance & Hines Twin Slash Slip-On mufflers before having the cam and Big Shots Staggered installed, and I can honestly say the sound volume was not near as much of an increase as I had expected. I have read forums where people say the cams make the bike louder, but If they do, I do not think it is really very significant. I still wish my bike was louder. When I ride with groups, I have noticed that most of the touring bikes with the bigger radius mufflers, even with the smaller engine outputs, seem to sound louder to me.
@@southern_rambler thanks for quick reply 👍. Also did it effect your fuel economy?
@@manmeetsharma2632 Again, I might not have an exact answer for you. I never watched my gas mileage from a full tank till empty when it was stock, so I am not sure how much of a difference the cam made. It does feel like I am not getting quite as good of gas mileage; however, that could be because I find myself twisting the throttle a lot more since installing the cam 😄. If you have the chance to get a performance cam in your bike, do it! You will love it! The torque increase and sound change make it all worth it. Any slight or minor variation in the loudness or gas mileage is just not that seriously noticeable.
Would you happen to know roughly, what the water levels were? Mainly what I'm asking is, what level would it need to be to make it back there without much dragging?
I cannot remember what the recorded water level was. I know it had not rained for a couple of weeks prior, and it was just a single hard overnight rain that brought the water level up as high as it did. I was surprised by how flooded the river was when I got there. I would just try to plan this float right after a decent rain as this part of the Harpeth floods relatively easily. Also, the river can subside fairly fast, so probably need to do it within 24 to 48 hours after a decent rain. Sorry I do not have more info.
@@southern_rambler that's good enough. We're just outside of Bowling Green here & have been wanting to paddle the Harpeth. I appreciate the feedback!
This is the route I'm going with my 22 Lowrider s , did you change other things, intake manifold, lifters , cam chest etc?
I used Feuling Lifters, Feuling Sprocket cam, and Feuling Inner Bearing Cam, S&S Pushrods, S&S Lifter Guides, and S&S 55MM Intake Manifold. I only changed the manifold because the stock one is plastic. I also upgraded the clutch springs to the Screamin' Eagle 1275N. I did not change out the cam plate or the oil pump. The stock cam plate and the newest stock oil pump are good products. The only reason to change these is if you want to have billet ones for bragging rights, but they are not necessary for the performance or the longevity of the engine.
@@southern_rambler Im replacing Intake manifold with SE , looks more finished ,also S&S lifters and tappet cuffs, SE adjustable push rods, 30/30 cam, S&S cam chest & oil pump, yeah I know, but it looks perty!, and replacing top plate of Transmission with a billet one from Trask with vent to relieve crankcase pressure, thanks for the video, truly inspiring!
@@billyfinch7341 I actually have that same Trask Vent Cover bookmarked and in my future plans also...lol. Another plan is to upgrade the stock primary compensator with the Star Racing billet compensator. The stock ones in the M8's have a history of breaking when put under the stress of upgraded performance parts. Let me know after you get your cam put in what you think; I would love to hear your opinion on it. Ride safe.
@@southern_rambler I saw that comp sprocket and is recommended to switch it out, I'm not doing that right away and I'm wondering if that's needed for the mods I'm doing or if this is done for like stage three and higher, ill talk it over with my mechanic, I've got about 3800 miles on the bike, I'm thinking around fall time, ill keep you posted!!
That 30/30 sounds like a beast. I am stuck between deciding on that cam or the Woods Knight Prowler WM8 22XE cam.
Try not to over think it; I know I did 🤪. Any performance cam upgrade is better then the stock cam. The Woods cam looks to be a great choice, and I am sure if you go that way, you will be thrilled at the results. I made my choice for the 30/30 cam after speaking one on one with George Bryce himself; 6 NHRA Pro Stock motorcycle championships, owner and teacher of a motorcycle drag racing school, and owner of Star Racing. The man has raced them, wrecked them, blown them up, and pushed every part to the limit on his bikes. He has tweaked, designed, and redesigned probably every motor part on a bike. He knows what will work, what want work, and how to get the most out of them. I know the 485 lift you get with a 30/30 cam, is the max you can push a stock M8 too. George has a great Tech Talk Tuesday series on TH-cam. I suggest you check out the one he did on his cams. Good luck deciding. th-cam.com/video/7XXt9ywBtRs/w-d-xo.html
What are the numbers now that the 30-30 cam has been installed?
I ended up with 116 HP and 132 Torque. The Horse Power is lower than It could have been due to my particular pipe choice, but the Torque came out better than we expected running a 2-1-2. It was Dyno Tuned using Techno Research Direct Link. I am not sure how to interpret the numbers as I have read and watched many people talk about their Dyno numbers with all types of cams and pipes, and the numbers seem to be all over the place; even people running the exact same types of cam with the same exact pipe set up report vastly different Dyno results. I guess what it really comes down to is what do you as a rider hear in your ear and feel in the seat of your pants.
Thanks, is the motor a 114 or 117?

Beautiful day and great bike ! I just came across your channel in my feed actually. I'm happy to support your efforts and those of other fellow moto content creators. I look forward to seeing and hearing more from you in the future ; keep up the great work and ride safe out there.
Thank you for your kind words and support. As you can tell, I am very new at editing, posting, and I am not really sure where I am going with this channel as of yet. I do recall seeing some of your videos as I was researching bike information on Harley's and modifications. Thank you for your great content. I am so thankful to creators like you for all the information out there that helped me. I was hoping to just give a little information back in some small way for others like me out there. Keep your great content coming and safe rides to you in return.

I appreciate the info, wish I could afford them.
I understand; I could not afford them. Harley Davidson is definitely a passion that drives you to spend money that defies common sense. 😉
😎🛴
my pleasure, I also went with the S+S cam plate, lifters, oil pump and tappet cuffs, as the tappet cuffs from S+S are billet versus plastic from HD, I would also recommend going to the S+S 55mm aluminum intake manifold and replace the plastic one, stay safe man and keep me up to date on your modifications, always fun to see what other folks are doing!!
due to EPA regulations, all of your "blow by / excessive mist, etc" that comes out of your breather bolts and is funneled right back into your throttle body and therefore, your engine, HD is not allowed to release it into the atmosphere, therefore it's a "closed" system, the M8 generates alot of crankcase pressure and the Trask topcover releases that excess pressure, you can also "vent" your breather bolts with an external breather kit, however, there is a concern about vacuum, I've been told that you do not need to have both, so, I went with the Trask, plenty of TH-cam videos on the Trask product as well, take care
I did do more research on this subject after reading your first comment. Everything you just said appears to be 100% correct. There is some debate over the vacuum issue with an external breather, but the transmission vent system you recommended looks to be widely agreed upon as an excellent choice. We absolutely want to do everything we can to preserve the life of our engines. I have now got this on my list of future modifications as a priority. Thinks again for the great tip!
I'm also running the 30 / 30 cam, great cam, you might also think about venting your crankcase, I'm using the Trask checkm8 top cover, it really helps, ride safe man!!
I just looked at the checkm8; I will definitely have to do more research into this; It looks like a great product. Thanks for the recommendation!
