Nordic Plant Lover
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 3 ส.ค. 2020
Hello, I am Johan, the Nordic Plant Lover.
I love planting all kinds of seeds from fruits and such, and see what grows. I have always some new project in the makings.
In this channel I will upload videos about growing plants in a nordic climate (very dark and cold during the winter) and the challanges that comes with it.
Feel free to drop any kinds of questions in the comments of a video. I am always open for any feedback, as I am no expert in this area.

Will it fruit? As per what I have heard, the trees of litchi grown from seeds don't bear fruits. Is it correct?
I have no idea actually. I just planted it for fun, and the future will tell 😊
Great light. I have x2 of them. Very bright and low heat. BUT they have high failure rate after 1 year of use!!! Luckily Sansi has replaced these lights since they offer 3 years warranty
Oh, thanks for the heads up. Great warranty 😊
I am from Arizona a hot dry state in the USA can this lychee tree grow here??
I don’t possess such knowledge I am afraid. But you can always try! Just make sure to keep it watered, as they seem to try out fast if you forget 😊
I think you might be overwatering .
Стару землю стряхнути і можна садити в старий горщик там місця достатньр
Треба було полити землю і вона відійшла би
Чому нема переводу
can they survive the winter outdoors where you are if you create a micro climate for them?
No, I don’t think so. We can get -20C here at worst 🥶.
they need fast draining soils to survive they can't tolerate soggy waterlogged soils especially when it's cold
what species of pine is it? they are usually really intolerant of shade thats why it looks so stunted indoors
I am not sure. It might be Aleppo pine, or similat. It’s from Croatia. It is constantly growing, just veeeery slowly 😊.
Will this eventually fruit? Super interesting
I doubt it. But who knows? If it lives long enough 😊.
Any update?
An update is kinda planned. But I have been too busy with other things lately, sorry for that.
Hey.
I have one in its second year. Nearly died 2 times I only have a west facing window. Uk
Hang in there buddy! Do you know what caused the near death experiences?
@NordicPlantLover my best bet would be that last winter we had a very bad cold snap and out electric was out for 3 days of sub zero temperature. All my fish died but one and my lizzards had a near constant rotation of hot water bottles. I re potted it last spring. And if it's survived all this as a saplings I have good feeling about the future
I see, that sounds harsh indeed. Sorry about the fish 😥
Leaves look so healthy how do you keep bugs and spider mites away from your plants?
Thank you! Spider mites i usually shower off. But they never attack my avocados. I have constant small attacks of thrips, i spray with insect spray when i see them. It’s hard to fully get rid of them 🤬
THANK YOU THANK YOU LOVE THE VID
Im glad you liked it. Thansk for watching!
Thank you in United Kingdom we call it Lychees. Lovely video
Thank you for sharing, and watching! 😊
No thank you for the great video ❤
Beautiful tutorial.
Thank you 😊
I use kitchen scissors to snip off the tip, and then I can pry the husk open easily with my hands. The inner seed of the mango is shaped like a kidney I notice.
Nice trick 😊. Yeah, giant kidney bean 😅
@NordicPlantLover I will remember to plant the sprouted giant kidney bean flat horizontally like you did instead of vertically. I actually got dried date fruit seeds to sprout but the plant was skinny like a jumbo Sprout and never formed a young date palm. Maybe they need a much stronger direct sun intensity? I don't have that kind of sun here in the northeastern United States.
We he giggles when he gave the V for Vagina with his fingers. I don't think he was giggling bc it was a peaceful sign
Very cool, hello from Arizona in the USA
Hello! Thank you for watching.
Very nice to see how it grow. Think I'll try to make a pine grow! Thank you for your videos.
I’m glad I could inspire you! Thank you for watching 😊.
I know this seed pretty well but I don't know the English name. It is a tree found in Ghana. Young boys used to raise mounds of sand, cover with brown paper & had 2 opposing sides who will spin the seed for competition!. Also, I remember my mum used to open the seed which contained a white powdery substance, grind is smoothly, mix it with water, boil it for about 2-3 min, then gave it to my brother whenever he had an asthma attack. For months he would never have a crisis. It's called "NTE" in the Twi language.
I have learned that it’s called Salak or snake fruit 😊. I really like your story about the game! It sounds that one must both learn good tactic, and find the best shaped seed 🤩. Amazing that it has medical uses too, really cool fruit. Thank you for sharing! 🙏
@@NordicPlantLover thanks most kindly too
Is there another update? Very interesting progress of your bonsai
Hi, thank you for watching. It has recovered, and adapted to the new pot. And is getting back on track. Nothing big has happened yet, but I can make a short little video were I share my current thoughts on it!
@@NordicPlantLoverwould be really amazing to see how it looks like now. I’ve loved the video, btw.
Can I plant the whole cone?
I am not sure actually 😅, if it works you will get lots of pines in the same spot, which may not be ideal.
@@NordicPlantLover thanks for the reply. I grabbed a couple pine cones and put them in water. Just gonna wait and see what happens. I’m trying to make bonsai trees…
Omgg Lennyy
Good name? 😅
If you are not already watering with fertilizer, I really recommand it. If it is hard to repot because the pot gets to big to have inside, then atleast the plant gets nuteients from the fertilizer. I have a lot of avaocado plants and other green plants inside and i fertilize from spring to fall. I really like your videos!
Great tip. I am giving them some, and I have been leaning on doing it this way instead, but not sure if it is enough, and a bit scared of overdoing it. Do you add to every watering?
I use «Superba» from Nelson garden. It is actually for flowers and vegetables but works great on every plant i have. It is powder to mix with water. I use full dose in late spring and sommer, and halv in winter. I use it every time i water with no problems. But every other fertilizer for green plants is probably as good. I dont like fertilizing sticks because they need so much water to disolve. I personally think you should try it! Maybe try it out on just one plant and see.
@halvmos thank you 🙏
Amazing work growing the lichees when I get my seeds I will be using your method for germinating the seeds and will keep you updated with how they get on 👍
Thank you! Good luck with your seeds 😊
What type of soil do you recommend for avocado bonsai / avocado tree ?
I am using citrus soil. Not sure if it is the best tho 😊. It needs to be well drained, and with good nutrients.
@@NordicPlantLover thank you so much ! Im growing an avocado and it starts having roots and I’m so excited ! Her name is Julie haha
Are your avocados affected by the radiators when they're on in the winter? I'm worried my little avocados will get dried out when the heating comes on but I don't want to move them too far from the window!
Yes, the hot dry air in the winter is not ideal. They often get brown dry tips on the leaves, I think it makes that worse. You can try adding an air humidifier. And you are right, they need all light they can get in the winter 😊.
I live in Ireland and have tried to grow them but I can try different methods of growing them and see what happens 😁
Good luck :). It can take very long time to germinate when planted straight in soil.
@@NordicPlantLover I can try your methods on germinating them 😁
Heard lychee trees prefer acidic soil. Wonder if that can help Lenny
Thank you for this tip! I should probably get a soil pH meter, and start measuring my plants. It’s the next step in my plant game! 😊
thank you so much for the update! Im looking forward to the next and im sure lenny will bounce back, he's in good hands :) my two lychee trees are doing great, they're only 6 months old and my first attempt too. thank you for inspiring me!
Thank you for watching, and cheering for Lenny! 😊 Glad to hear more people are growing Lychees! They are such pretty little trees, good luck!
Did they survive?
One is doing great 😊, the other one is very bad 😱
Thank you! I always love to see the lychee tree updates!
Thank you for watching! I will update more frequently on the Lychees I think. A lot have been wondering how they are doing :)
did you put it out again, now that its summer?
Yeah, it’s been out for about 2 weeks now 😊. Maybe a little later than what I was planning.
Just started today aha, had my first mango since I was a child and the nolstagia convinced me.
Nice! Nostalgia can be a very powerful feeling 😊. Good luck with the tree!
What soil type do you use for tropical plants/ trees? And have you tried growing guavas? I’m growing a guava tree in Germany and it’s 2 years old now and doing well.
Recently I have been using citrus soil for everything. For good draining purposes. I am not sure it’s optimal tho, I should probably do some research induvidually for each tree. But it’s on my to do list 🤣. I have never even eaten guava, but now I wanna try! 😊

I am trying to make a mango tree bonsai .
Nice project. How old is it?

@FahimSheikh-co9cg A little baby! Good luck 😊
@@NordicPlantLover yeah.. Do you have Facebook page? Please tell me
My family loves avacado (i don’t) but the whole reason i took up gardening is so i can give them fresh homegrown food. Only problem is i live in Massachusetts which will most definitely kill the tree. Is there a way to reduce the tree overgrowing so i can grow indoors? I started tonight since my mom just ate a whole avocados and i’m got green brain
A noble purpose! I didn’t like avocados at first, but it grew on me 😊. Best is to combine it with other food. You can keep the tree small and still producing fruit by cutting it yearly at the right time before flowering. I saw a video explaining how a while back.
@@NordicPlantLover i see! Thank you! I’ve tried avocado a couple of times, my entire family would die by it, but it’s just makes my throat itchy and tastes sweet and mushy. Not my thing unfortunately but maybe if the tree fruits i’ll give it another try.
2 Year update: th-cam.com/video/UzTS-5tTFjM/w-d-xo.html
I started naming my plants, what do you think? :)
Kinda funny!
Amazing!🤩
I threw a mango seed in my compost pile, and lo and behold one day I saw a small tree growing. At first I thought it was avocado and then realized it was a mango! It lasted almost a year and a half but I ended up in the hospital for 2 weeks with pneumonia and my mom and daughter didn't water it and it died! I was so upset. 😭
Thats amazing when nature finds it’s way unexpected! 😁 Im sorry it died 😭. Many mango plants have died on my watch too, only one left. We should plant some more! 😊
Спасибо, что делитесь опытом. Лист по краю чернеет из-за недостатка кислоты в грунте. Для цитрусовых растений обычно продается земля с меньшей кислотностью, чем нужно для авокадо
