Episode 2 - Flips & Formations
มุมมอง 4.1K5 ปีที่แล้ว
Episode 2 - Flips & Formations is all about a simple system for calling your offensive formations using strength of the formation as the key, instead of left and right. To make the system work even more fluidly, I explain why I flip my offensive line. Simple is better! Check out Episode 3 for my explanation of how I go Empty! (P.S. Coach love your stuff. Would you run this at middle school level? To what degree would you implement.

      He was killed by his girlfriend not long after this series. I’ve used all the basic plays at the middle school level. The kids really figured it out prior to the season. Hope that helps.

    Well done, Coach! Have been searching for a SIMPLE and FUN way to combine spread and double wing/flexbone concepts for a Canadian high school football team... Without boring with the rule differences, we play with 12 per side and I'm looking forward to seeing if I can have EAST and WEST base formations that feature a TRIPS tail to stretch the defense to the weak side... Really appreciate you sharing your system and (more importantly) the trial and error that has helped you get to here... You are making a huge difference for coaches across North America with these videos! 🇺🇲🇨🇦🇲🇽

      @@gymrat974 Sad as can be... I had reached out to him and never heard from him about the time it happened. I just figured he was busy and then I contacted him again no response and then a quick google search and I found out what had happened. Stunning. I still go back and watch all his video's in Aug. to refresh for the upcoming season.

    Coach, I love this! A head coach I worked with introduced me to the flipped line, and I thought it was crazy at first, but after I ran it for a few DAYS, I thought to myself, this is great! After six years of coaching it, I don't ever want to go back to left/right! Coach, would love to talk to you more about this!

    Thanks for all the videos, Tom, they are very informative. What do you think of lining up with twins split wide to the field and the Y in a tight slot position to the field. That would allow you to run a play side RPO off the buck sweep with a pre-snap read? If the alley defender lines up close to play the run, throw the bubble. If he lines up to defend the bubble, run the buck sweep without having to block the alley defender. I'm also wondering why shot gun wing-t teams don't complement the buck sweep by running a strong side play with the RB hiting the C-gap using G-Scheme blocking. I think that would great against a strong 9 tech that is fighting the WB's block.

    Really enjoy your video series (1-7) and glad they are not "drag races" to finish quickly, but you take the time to explain in detail you methodology, concepts and processes. You mentioned you would be publishing some "E" books, is there any time line for that? Really sound interesting and would like to buy one.

    Another good video. I'm wondering how you teach inside and outside wall on Belly with a Base block or Cross block. Also, do you reach on the backside, or pull the backside guard into the tunnel? Your terminology seems very similar to Double Wing TKO blocking. Were you influenced, or did you come up with this on your own?

    • @tombrankin1543
      @tombrankin1543 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      coachbranks.com/belly-belly-option Here's an article wrote for my website. I'd draw the tunnels in much the same way. Assuming it's a crossblock scheme with a 3 and 5 technique on the outside shoulders of my QuickGuard and QuickTackle... The tunnel would happen in B gap and the QT has Inside Wall; the QG has Outside Wall; and the F is In The Tunnel blocking the playside backer. As an extra, if the NG is shaded away from playside to the strongside, the Strong Guard would Gut block behind the Center's downblock thru weak A to get a better angle on the weakside backer.

  • @randytongue

    Great video. Here’s an idea for Belly, if you’re QB is not a runner you could motion up the Z Back to run it. This would also set up Keep Pass (Belly Pass), F Sally, or F Scissors if you have a tackle that can pull.

    • @tombrankin1543
      @tombrankin1543 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a great idea too! I used to run Sally from under center. But, it really only worked against a couple of undisciplined teams on our schedule. I really prefer the solid blocking of Counter and dropped Sally altogether. My Belly Pass became simpler from the shotgun. The F blocks the edge like Belly Option while the H runs the arrow and the X runs a snag. Belly Pass turns itself into a nice sprint out that looks a lot like Belly Option. Thank you for your comment Randy!
