Some counties in Idaho supposedly have basically zero building codes and is very rural. I don’t think I could stand the winters in Alaska with very little sunlight. The summers there must be great though.
Great for anybody who wants to better themselves. Just be part of the community, dont change anything.
Genius
Several parts of
Not counting cost of sawmill fuel equipment to handle logs undryed lumber etc. Only makes sense in remote areas without access and crazy prices like Canada Alaska. You will have shrinkage and warping plus you need the ground to actually cut the lumber.
Commie fornia!
If you got the time, we got the beer, Miller Beer. Commercial from the 1960's/70's. If you have the time, the trees and the energy. Why not?
Idk man, 2 days to gather enough lumber for a garage at little to no cost seems pretty damn efficient
We've been saying stay away Californians since the 1970s in the Puget Sound region. It didn't work.
Amen brother, fuck those liberal shit hole cities in that state that are slowly running their stay into the ground and have the gall to tell the other states how to run their governments.😂
With property prices these days, you’ll need both…😢
You don't count your labor if it's for yourself 😊
As a former california I approve this message. Run run away from california while you still can. It won't be long before they put up walls to keep you in.
Not even sure that truck is worth $1200. My 2009 F150 is $213 to register this was exaggerated a bit, but I do completely understand the message
You forgot to add the time of felling trees, dragging trees, and then there's the fuel costs plus blades and other wearables for the saw, chainsaws and wheeler as well.
Less commies
Series
Your way Home Depot makes zero dollars so that makes your way better.
Here in Washington State, those figures for lumber would be closer to $1,000, and labor wouldn't be any less than $30 an hour. Throw in delivery charges of the lumber, nails, screws, and roofing materials. Plus, the profit margin Grand total would be around 3 - 5 thousand dollars. Saw mill today cost $3,300 My bet it was closer to 2k when bought. Getting 1 or 2 cords of firewood costing approx. $450. This build was a very profitable
Guess they make their own screws and nails too. Kiln drying also?

You can save the ash for making soap as well. Good, healthy, all natural lye soap. To a trend chasing "natural" fanatic? $10+ a bar. To a savy craftsman with ash and a spare hour or two? Free for several bars.
Another comparison, is how much money stayed in the local economy. I am guessing, most.
Live near shasta dam nice to see it represented on the internet
Are you happy? If it was me ? I would be happy as all hell.
A was means it's not worth the time plus where do you get the logs for free?maybe cut right on the property at first but how long will that last
Yeah, cut on property. Most of you mean terms of how many trees we probably have enough for two more major builds , and we will definitely need more logging area
Ummm, how much was the sawmill and how many hours did you spend felling the lumber and prepping it for the mill. Oh, also how much were the chainsaws and the trucks to haul said logs to the mill? Oh wait, mustn’t forget about the tandem axel trailer and rigging.
This is kinda still a wash. Most of that stuff you're going to have anyways homesteading you have other things to transport you still need the saw for firewood your still felling dead trees again for firewood you would still need the trailer to transport the lumber from the store
Time felling hauling and milling was about 16 hours for the two of us thats where I got the numbers... oh there's definitely cost in tools and equipment probably not nearly what you think it cost though just a lot of time and effort fixing old and used equipment or just making it ourselves in some cases
@alaskanjackofalltrades Hello, sir. I was wondering if the felling, hauling and milling 16 hours means 1 day 2 people 8 hrs = 16 man hours? Or, was 16 hrs for the both of you = to 32 man hrs?
16 hours for the both 32 in total, but its worth noting I didn't time us. it's just my estimate
@@alaskanjackofalltradesThank you. I'm not in this field of work at all. Just fyi😂. I do however do the finishing and remodeling phase of the home. My question was purely from a cost comparison perspective. When I bid projects using hourly employees as opposed to contract labor, I have to factor what can be done in a perspective of man hours. In order to make profit, I have make sure that 32 man hours can yield at least double to cover insurance and all the overhead expenses and then profit. I guess I was really just trying do the exact math because I'm very intrigued, curious and ocd. Thanks for your reply!
If it’s about the money you wouldn’t be out there. I’ve seen what people do with big sacks of money. I’m not interested
Peace. Congratulations! Best prayers for prospering all ways! My opinions, my take: Approximately a decade past, realization manifested was those operating as 'government' office holders had nefariously promised Kali-forny land to foreign interests due to imbalance of trade between this corporate federation of States and foreign major political entity. Recent decades' ledge-is-lay-shun structured to make life unendureable for real people in that state. Now showing: spiritual conflagration, occurring in heavens above, for that which is of this Earth. Think. Pray. Peace.
I won't lie, I kinda want to move to Alaska now.
Looks like you're running a pretty successful junk yard.
Put it in a windy area
It took you 2 days to cut the lumber meanwhile it would take normal person 2 weeks of work to be able to afford the lumber. You got the good end of the deal
Ehh 2 people 2 days at 20 bucks an hours its really about a wash
@@alaskanjackofalltrades oh you hired people? Then yeah maybe the math doesn't work out as good
@hawks9142 No, we did it ourselves. Just if we went out and worked for the money and bought 2x6s, it's probably about a wash financially
@@alaskanjackofalltrades The mill and blades certainly add to the overhead, but I bet that lumber you guys cut is better quality than what you would've purchased. The value of your skills is also considerable.
California sucks I left too
Great work ! Being efficient also gives you the gratification that YOU did it ! 😃👏👍
California has the worst governor ever known to man. What do you expect he is related to Pelosi
Actually 50/50 acetone and dexron 3 Tranny fluid out performs every penetrating fluid on the market
Ive been to Alaska twice and i am embarrassed at all the trash people leave in their yards ..... totally disgusting......
We totaly worried about what you think... how dare our way of life not be acceptable to you please Mr savor deliver us from our struggles... maybe just a suggestion don't come back for a third time, bye Felicia
Eventually, everyone will live California.. Alaska seems like a great state to migrate to.
Best reason NOT to vote for Kamala or gavin newsom.
The ash from the fire is great for the garden

Commiefornia.
Why would it still not be more efficient to cut your own lumber?
👍👍😊
Did y’all treat the wood with anything before you used it for your cabin?
The beams under the floor that sit on the sonotubes got a coating we are planning on staining the exterior siding at some point
Guess what? Nobody cares
I care. Plenty others do too. I’m sure your contribution to the channel’s engagement, thus helping it in the algorithm, is appreciated by the creator. But go be a hater somewhere else, kid. Hopefully when you’re older and more seasoned, you’ll learn to appreciate grown men like this (instead of being some armchair keyboard warrior saying things behind a screen he doesn’t have the balls to say to someone’s face). God bless you and have a good day.
I care. Learning everything I can from multiple sources makes me a better prepared person for any life choices I make.
Ahh, the old double edged sword of being a worthless hater saying "nobody cares", while you yourself cares enough to bother commenting. If you really wouldn't have cared, you just would've kept dopamine scrolling and continuing about your miniscule and meager life. No amount of edgy comments is ever going to fill that void you feel deep inside yourself.
Redneck engineering 🔥💯
Instructions unclear I have cocain water
These work really well but the flame is really waxy and sooty, hard to clean. Also never get Folgers, pay an extra bucks or two and get taster's choice.
I would like to see it from step one all the way to the end I would want to see the 1-hour series but I'm not working no more so for other people that are working that are interested in looking at it it will probably be good the civil part series
