Super helpful insights; thank you!!
thank you Chris and Harrison! I don't get how this has so little views. Chris spits gold all the time.
No lies detected.
GREAT!!
Thanks, Sally!
What is “inclusive of design and user centered thinking” supposed to mean? It’s not your fault I know but do we actually know what that stuff even means anymore? 😂 Our words have become the UI of interviewing and design lingy where we left our all of the functional UX from our communication.
This question is bullshit. Why? Well, it’s a sickly representation of how pretentious our industry has become. Trick questions reserved for detecting whether you’ve been in the “UX design-y” frat where your initiation involves learning a new code for otherwise basic questions. I refuse to interview designers by throwing passive curve balls at them for the purpose of the ‘in club’ fit check. Fuck…This…Shit…. But if They do ask you, simply confirm *directly* if they are asking about your last couple jobs or the entire journey of becoming a designer. See that’s the problem with these “cool” interview Q’s.
Thanks for sharing your perspective. I'm pointing out what often gets missed in case study presentations. In any industry, it's important to point out your impact beyond the day to because if you aren't asked then how will they know? It's safe to assume that not all interviewers are great so it's important to make sure you show up with intention.
You could've use more professional words and not sound aggressive
There's something I'm confused on, if I have no work experience but have personal projects, can I write a case study on it? Or do I need to have a working live projects in the market before I can write a case study? I also see people's personal projects on Behance, detailing how they worked on the design like their wireframe and design process and all, does that qualify as a case study?
That's actually a great place to start. It's important to make sure you have clear and measurable goals to frame your work in. I would stress that if you can find ways to collaborate with a developer and/or product owner that can help build more practice in shipping something (and all of the considerations that come along with it). To your second question, yes, in this day in age there are many ways where you can present your work Figma, Behance, Websites, etc. I have seen less and less folks use Behance over the years but it's still a very active place.
Thank you!
You’re welcome!
A person with ASD who likes constant change in the workplace? Interesting. :)
Happy to hear
Thanks for this!
You got it!

Loved these insights! You speak so eloquently! Thank you so much! Subscribed.
Thanks, Theresa 🙏🏿
Thank You. How does this not have more views? This is what I needed to hear to help me re-direct my thinking. I’ve been writing up new case studies and become laser focused on the technicalities. I’ve been losing sight of the bigger picture and this was a much needed reminder. Glad your video popped up on my feed. Subscribed.
So great to hear and thanks for subscribing 🙏🏿
awesome work!
Thank you! Cheers!
I was lucky to see Kevin speak at CCA in San Francisco and he was very inspiring. It is Harrison's question that stands out here most for me. "What's next" A powerful idea that draws a line in the sand and says how things have been in the past are not set in stone and can improve. My notes from Kevin's talk said "Show Them" (the value of strategic design) Not so subtly telling designer it will take work and may not be easy. Also interested in the book from February on Black identity in Design..any clues? Thank you for this inspiring interview.
Glad you had so much to take away for this. In terms of the book we referenced you can check it out here: The Black Experience in Design: Identity, Expression & Reflection a.co/d/iXm4KSo
