    Hi Melanie, I started on three a while back, each time making one smaller. I finished one today. Thank you for teaching me, I never learned this one in goldsmithing school (which was 20 years ago). I had to do a few tweaks and workaround, as a butane burner doesn't make it easy to "ball back", it did do some autogenous welding, which was nice. I simply soldered on separate balls, it turned quite nice. And then you solder on a jump ring I guess?

    • @melaniekline4895
      @melaniekline4895 21 วันที่ผ่านมา

      It has probably become soft from soldering and lost it's spring. Do you know how to put the temper back in?

    • @meowsaidthecat5338
      @meowsaidthecat5338 21 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@melaniekline4895 I think there is a misunderstanding;) I have a butane gas burner/ torch,butane sinks. Propane is hotter. It worked out well. I'm taking a bath, and then will solder on a jumpring. I'm using it in a strawberry quarz necklace. I started goldsmithing again in March, after 19 years of other things ( including Archaeology).Your feather instruction helped me with getting soldering technique back. In March it felt I forgot a lot of things. I will hammer on it again, when the jumpring is soldered to the back ( that which attaches to the necklace).

    Thank you! I was also baffled at how some creators appeared so uneconomic with their sheet metal. I'm returning to goldsmithing after 20 years, and I can learn a lot from you. I use alum in water for "pickling", a healthier alternative if you have no ventilation.

    I just started do try out making my own jewelry. I can't saw a straight line, I almost always steer off to the left (I use my left hand since this is my dominant hand). My line only gets more straight if I hold the saw in a somewhat uncomfortable angle. But as soon as I am holding it straight, it drags me to the left again. Any hint why this might be? I am training on brass at the moment and you said brass "drags". Is this what you meant?

    • @melaniekline4895

      What kind of saw are you using?

    • @fabiankeller6884
      @fabiankeller6884 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I am using a 2/0 sawblade for brass plates with a thickness of roughly 0,5 mm

    • @melaniekline4895
      @melaniekline4895 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @fabiankeller6884 no. What Saw are you using? Not sawblade.

    • @fabiankeller6884
      @fabiankeller6884 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Ah sorry. I use a Homesom 1PC coping saw.

    • @melaniekline4895
      @melaniekline4895 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @fabiankeller6884 Often the problem is not you, it's the saw. A frame with only the thumb screws to hold your blade with NO BACK ADJUSTMENT holds your sawblade straighter. As soon as you have more adjustments you have the potential for more loose chatter and warp. Both of these are really strong frames that won't flex. It is essential that your top and bottom blade holding hardware is perfectly aligned. Also, don't push the blade through the metal, just relax and gently guide it. Good luck! Melanie
