Train ride around my layout
A train view around my layout. The train is the Sarah Siddons pulling a couple of Dreadnought coaches. The train going around on the adjacent track is my D stock train.

    Really helpful video. I’ve only just ‘discovered’ the powered-up coding so I’m trying out a few things for now and learning my way round it. The main issue I’m having is reliably sensing the colours in the correct place. It seems to pick up blue for every track sleeper and randomly sees yellow and green with shadows. Red is the only consistent colour at the moment. Do you know if there is a optimal distance for the sensor above the coloured plates?

    • @mocerhead8966
      @mocerhead8966 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@kevwatson8787 I’ve not really come up with an optimal distance for the sensor, it’s usually dictated by the guts of the train of where I can mount it. But I’v had a look at the instructions and I think it can be done but with some modification. The sensor will fit in square holes in the train base, you’ll need a bracket 44728 and a 1x2 brick to mount it. I would remove the red tiles on the base to expose the second square hole and reroute the train motor lead through that. So I’ve just built this using the rebrickable instructions and it really does look great and I’m very grateful you took the time to design and share this with us, but the running of it has been a constant stream of headaches. The side plates on the bogies are too flimsy The motor is barely strong enough to pull the three carriages It struggles to turn corners without grinding to a halt And the brand new batteries I put in before testing just now lasted about 40m. I will get a good 6 hours of constant run time with this particular train at shows. I get these from Amazon and they are pretty cheap. As for cost, everyone knows that Lego ain’t cheap and MOC trains doubly so. I understand your frustration as I have been there many times. This train has been through many iterations to get to this stage, it may change again depending on what technology Lego bring out next. With issues regarding the building/running of the train it may be better to comment on rebrickable, I think you can leave photos on there which would be helpful. As a tip, which I haven’t mentioned before, use traction bands on the driving wheels. I use small hair bands or you can use loom bands. These make a big difference with traction. With the side plates I’m assuming you mean the parts that’s supposed to represent the traction pick up bar. Yes, they are not the sturdiest as it is only held on by one stud. Mine stay on whist running but they do fall off when being transported from show to show.

    Update from me: I’ve finished building the train, had to go with your bogie design since the newer designs of bogie are crap. There’s a mistake in the instructions where you miss out on the vertical plate pins that go into the carriage (first one I think) Now waiting on the rubber bands 🙈 Awesome build of a tad fragile without the roof attached. May glue it at some point, and the gearing system has very little torque and can’t reverse at all. Cheers 👍

    This is exactly what I will need once I finalize my LEGO layout. Thank you very much! At the moment I will be using one train only, but in my head I was looking for something to control two trains with one code only, and the power up app is quite cool as it manages both with the same code. I thought I had to time everything at perfection, but I am glad I can control the condition of one train based on the condition of another one.

    Didn't have an account with Rebrickable so I thought I'd comment here. LOVE the MOC and it's the perfect thing I've been looking for for my "curtain rail-way line". I'm probably going to switch out the complicated gearing system with the Lego Train motor (88011) part and then make the remaining axels (slightly adjusted to bring them to the same height)

    "Now that be genius", I thought, "I am doing that because my batteries are lasting about twenty minutes". 18 Days Later. "Cool, they are here"...5 minutes later, "Errrr...something is not right, these wheels do not have the metal axels like yours, I have 2 technic axels and on the rest there are no axels, the wheels just fit into the bogie", said me (did not include the ridiculous profusion of profanity). Probably should have checked first, just did not think there would be numerous types of train wheels unless you start searching the dark ages of the 1970s Lego sets. So LEGO PLC, Why do my train wheels NOT HAVE AXELS? Why have you changed from an okay system with axels to a clearly inferior no axels system? No wonder the batteries last 20 minutes when the wheels turn well so long as they carry no weight and are touching nothing but air, did you even test these crappo plastic wheels before you changed them? Premium product my arse!
