Shane- Wetlands Honey bees
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 15 ม.ค. 2020
Im a fourth year beekeeper (whoo hoo, waited 4 yrs to say that) lol. with some experience when I was a very young kid, and learnt alot from a local keeper, or maybe that was pestering..hmm. anyway the covid hit about that time so I took 5 online beekeeping courses, read every thing I could, and am still reading and learning, with the bees teaching me more as i go. Join me on my adventures with the bees.

Day time temps have been good but the nights been going down to 0c that's about 32f. The temps are supposed to stay nice for a week orore. So I didn't mind putting on the sugar water. I do 2 to 1 this time of year if I need to feed them.

I went to heft hives and test weight readiness for winter, also went through one very light colony.

I put the five frame nuc into a six frame because I can put fondant on through the winter. If there is time I may feed them up into a double 6, will see.

Hi "its Shane again" funny🤭you might be Joey.😂 Where are your "anti-critter tack strips" ?😂Those things are monsters. Blessed Days Shane...
Ahh👍someone else that understands how much to much moisture can damage a colony in Winter. I really liked seeing how you deal with many of the similar issues that I do, you get colder then I do though. Have a great day Shane.
Shane feeds bees🤔I like well fed bees.😁I think well fed bees make happier and healthier bees.👍
Nothin to do but wait and worry.
Definitely quiet and peaceful in your videos; I could watch them all day. The bees look real cozy too. - Darren
Good update Shane. I hope you continue to make a few videos. I'd like to see how these do. Not that many people show bees up north that are overwintered outdoors. There's no reason to be uptight about the camera. There's no pressure to upload after all!
@@rtxhoneybees Hi Phillip, I guess that's true. I think I will make a few here and there but would really like to concentrate on the bees more. It's like I can get thrown off by the camera and Lose the concentration. Will always be around in some way thks for watching and commenting, I've much appreciated it.
Haven't had my cameras out...I had a debate with another hunter...I am a lifetime hunting and fishing enthusiast... and photographer. At one point I said" went I pull the trigger, I don't need ear protection, and we both walk away to walk another day. Thanks for posting, take care, peace.
@@lambbrookfarm4528 I like that, we both walk away..cool
oh yeah, # 1. Hey Shane, I been thinking about a Mug up morning chat...? Any thoughts on hosting it?
@@lambbrookfarm4528 Hey Brice, I would have a hard time committing to a day time live. It wouldn't be fair to anyone else. But I would gladly watch you when I could.
@@ziggyswetlandhoneybees I was hoping you would ... thinking early morning short time... what's your time zone?
@lambbrookfarm4528 I'm in Eastern daylight Time zone, I think same as you? I would have to get a camera and mic, and to be honest I don't really have the ability to say I could because I work when I can and that's pretty hard to schedule anything around.
@lambbrookfarm4528 I'm in Eastern daylight Time zone, I think same as you? I would have to get a camera and mic, and to be honest I don't really have the ability to say I could because I work when I can and that's pretty hard to schedule anything around. Maybe in the winter when I've less to do. Still though, what is your idea for content on it?
darn, someone's on it...ya, getting warmer and warmer. have a great week... crazy week ahead here in the US and beyond. . . peace to all
Shane where are your bear guard spike traps. 😂
@@dcsblessedbees hi DC, electric fence should be low enough to keep skunks out, plus I only have two and found the skunks ignore them too .lol
Somebody has to take one for the team, thanks for stepping up, Shane.
@@lambbrookfarm4528 lol.
Pretty office Shane.👍
Probably just sleeping in the sun and would rather ya went away.😂It's not like much messes with them.
@@dcsblessedbees hi DC, ya, I think this one was sick or something. Seven hours later it was still there. Maybe get to a tree over night but we have lots of coyotes. Will see in a day or so..
Was that your critter sound in the bushes from the other day, good sized one. They don't really care about much unless it gets to close, they really don't like dogs.
I read in a book that the meat tastes like pork.
@@rtxhoneybees it's what I've heard too. Never tried so can't confirm lol.
A porker in the sun, they love clover, red and white, good morning to ya Shane
Making my mouth water Ziggy!
It looks good but more like a whipped honey to me. My favorite way to use it is to put it on ice cream. -Darren
Nice looking creamed honey, I have actually had honey crystalize real close to that creamy. I guess there is benefit to living to a shaggy dog that like the temperature cool. Looks good Shane, thanks for sharing Blessed Days...
G’day Shane 😊 Looks like a soft set, but if it’s tasty and stays on your biscuit, that’s a win!
Looks great Shane! Thanks for sharing.
Looks pretty flat compared to around me. Nice view, thanks for sharing, good day!
Do you call them?
@@rtxhoneybees ya, I do but I wait quite a bit between calls. Usually like to play a bit with it too.
Good morning Shane, watch out you got bigger critters then I do.🤨Shane do we spend 15 minutes looking for that sound.🤣Oh more like 10minutes and 5 minutes hefting hives.🤭Well what about 120 to 130 lbs sounds about right. Glad to see ya buddy, Blessed Days...😁
I heard some You Tuber say it should feel like a box of rocks.
@@lambbrookfarm4528 hey Brice, ya guess that would work too .lol
For sure that was a chupacobra or a yeti.
@@rtxhoneybees I'm 100% positive your right..lol
Shane another thing that can really make a difference is the moisture level. Above 18.5 percent can yield a bit looser. Nice job.
@@MinnesotaBeekeeper Hi Mike ok thks, i used about 17.5% I hope that's close to what I needed.
@@ziggyswetlandhoneybees 27.5?Actually that should be a little thicker than what it is. I forgot to see how much seed you put in there. It does look beautiful!
@@MinnesotaBeekeeper 17.5 and I used a pound of seed in ten pounds liquid.
Oh wow lots of bees.
How do you remove the stinger from the bee if you get stung?
I love the chickadee sounds❤
it's making me hungry...
Ya Winter started here to Shane. Nice looking creamed honey buddy, looks like frosting. How many hours did you grind that 1st one? Blessed Days Shane...
@@dcsblessedbees hi DC, I grinded for about 6 hours. I did buy seed though. It's nice stuff but would like a whiter color. Still getting there..lol
Now you are just showing off Shane! That looks great.
Looks great Shane! I’d give it some more time too!
Thank You for sharing ♥would reducing them help them? could it be too much room to defend?
@@tinacalifano5023 I was thinking that but felt once all were below there was a large enough force, also robbing has never been an issue here. So far lol. Thks and is a good idea. I will keep an eye on them with that in mind.
I like them both "Wetlands Honey Bees" and 'Ziggy's Wetlands Honey Bees". Ziggy's is a little more personable maybe. But the last time you changed the channel name I became confused if I had the right channel, so you'll have to stick to something. - Darren @PennsylvaniaBeekeeper
Morning Shane, looks like it was a nice day with the bees.😁Thanks for sharing Shane, Blessed Days...
What is the history of the name Ziggy?
@@rtxhoneybees Hi Phillip, it's an old Nick name I was given by friends when I was a kid. I dropped it along time ago when we moved to a small town when I was a teen.
Nothing big and earth moving but that's why I'm good with or without it
@@ziggyswetlandhoneybeesI'm a Ziggys Bee fan.
If you put on one big whisk or even a large dough hook, it should work a bit better. Coming from a hardcore Kitchen Aid user. Good luck!
Shane thanks for the day and temp at the beginning. I have no idea why everyone doesn't do that. Good on you. What were the spacer boards, shims between those deeps in the beginning of your video? Screened boards?
@@MinnesotaBeekeeper Hi Mike that is just the inner cover. The top deep has sugar water. Any colonies right now with a third tear is being fed.
Are you trying with whip it or have you put in starter crystal to cream it? Ether way you need a whisk beater. Or lacking that, a dough hook.
@@MinnesotaBeekeeper hi Mike,I added a starter. And using a dough hook, sorry I called it a paddle.
😊Shane's Special Stone Hewn Honey 🤔what flavors granite, marble, slate maybe a little sand stone.😂Blessed Days buddy...
@@dcsblessedbees this one's granite MMM lol. I haven't had the guts to try it..it's ugly grey...lol
So you like that way better Shane, a lot less elbow work. Did you put a plug timer on it?
@@dcsblessedbees Hi Dave, I was going to but so far just turning in for 15 mins every hour through the day, so far ok..I think lol
Looking forward to seeing how it turns out.
No smoke needed. I was yelling at you to zip your veil! Turns out, you didn't need to.
@@rtxhoneybees lol. I can see ya now yelling veil dumb ass , veil..lol. I'm lucky my bees really are easy workers. Sometimes they get a bit worked up but usually calm quick enough.
Good morning Shane. How far is this yard from your other one?
@@rtxhoneybees hi Phillip, as the crow flys it's 4.95 miles. And also meant to get into that colony you asked if it swarmed. It hasn't so far.
But how far is it as the bee flys?! ;-]
@@rtxhoneybees lol.
@@rtxhoneybees lol..
Nice lookin queen Shane!
A blondie queen.
Good afternoon, Shane. I wanted to go for a walk this morning, but my woodshop grabbed me early. I have that weeny colony to prop up yet. I'm going to put 5 combs of in and see how much 2:1 They will take. Thanks for sharing, peace.
Hey Brice, good luck with the small colony, i may put another 6 frames on this nuc and see if i can get them to fill with my feed, not sure if i have time, also how are your new hives you were Buildng? thks for watching
@@ziggyswetlandhoneybees Not sure on the new hives, I will tell you in the spring. I like them so far. working up some insulated lids for them. should have those together in a couple days. It's the end of the day Shane, mug up from my back yard, have a great evening.
Good morning Shane.
Good morning Dave, hows things your way?
